System Restore Is Nessessary For Best Backup Of Registry

Jun 19, 2005

I know that just exporting and importing the Registry does not put the Registry back to as it was before any new entries were made.

I've been told that doing a System Restore does not wipe out all new entries either.

I was told that the only way to put a Registry back as it was before new entries,is to do a System State backup using the Microsoft Backup utility.

Is the correct, and if not what method puts a Registry back, wiping out any and all new entries, the way it was

CCleaner - Restore The Registry From The Backup?

Apr 23, 2006

CCleaner was featured last April 18, 2006 on CNET's Download Dispatch Windows edition with a subject ''Mr. Sparkle'', and because of it I had downloaded the software and had my PC Cleaned. I had also read CNET's how to use CCleaner and even had followed it while I was cleaning my PC.

One problem though I had observed on that how to is that though it advise you to have the registry backed up so that just in case something goes wrong, you would be able to restore the registry back, it lacks the procedure on how to restore it. After cleaning my PC, noting happens though and I am glad my PC is still running fine with a cleaner environment. But let say if I find something wrong later, how will I able to restore the registry from the backup? Anybody here who knows how? It seems also that I did not find this option inside CCleaner.

Restore Registry Using System Restore? Blue Screen, PC Won't Boot?

Sep 15, 2006

I was messing around with CCleaner and deleted something to do with an old version of McAfee (which isn't even on my computer anymore) from the registry. Yes, it was stupid to mess with the registry I guess because I failed to make the backup and now my computer won't boot. I get the blue screen that says there was an error 0x0000008e, or something like that.

I have tried using F8 and choosing the last known good configuration but it doesn't work. Also, I can boot into safe mode and I tried running a system restore but after it finished and I rebooted, it said that I couldn't restore from that point.I haven't really tried another restore because I am a little afraid to do anything. I don't want to risk losing access in safe mode because I need to be able to back up some of my files if in case I have to do a reformat.

You may now delete the System Volume Information folder.Warning! If you turn this off you will not be able to use Windows System Restore to restore your system in case of failure.

However, when I got to my profile a message window came up that said unable to restore to (chosen date/time) etc. I chose 3 other restore points over the last month, thinking it might be some recent problem, still a no go. Any help would be greatly appreciated? Is there a utility to use to check and see if there is something corrupted?

Restore A Whole System With MS Backup Tool

Aug 30, 2005

I tried to use MS backup tool to make a full backup of my whole system in order to restore it in another new machine. It fails because MS backup could not make a full backup, since the administrator does not have access to any file in the system (some directories, files, etc. are not allowed to be read by the admin). Meanwhile, ghost and partition magic for instance allows to copy the whole HD partition.Does anybody know if MS backup can really make a full system backup (with different access rights, multiple users on the machine, etc.), and then to restore this system into a new machine (same model, same hardware profile). That is, is a system duplication la-ghost possible with MS backup ?Is MS backup allows only to copy and restore personal accessible files, I do not understand why such tool exist since any standard copy and compress method would make the same thing. The real backup is when the system can be restored.

System Restore Does Not Work - OS Won't Boot

I have had this PC for about two months and the first time or two that I tried System Restore, it worked OK, Now, (with System Restore turned ON),it has gone downhill and when I try to run it, it goes through the process but at the end I get the error message "your computer cannot be restored to 00/00/00. No changes have been made." It does not make the automatic 24 hour restore points, even though it does make restore points when new programs are installed and manual restore points can be made. It works fine in Safe Mode using the rstrui.exe command. This latest problem started yesterday.

System Restore Not Properly Work

Jan 30, 2010

I recently have had problems with my computer slowing down after clicking on programs such as Firefox. It takes about 40 seconds for the hourglass to go away and then the program will finally load. Other programs also. I have been using some anti-virus and spyware programs thinking I had a virus or spyware , such as Spyware Begone. It found a spyware and deleted it. I tried to use System restore and it only showed one restore point in January (the 27th when I first tried Spyware Begone), but would not restore to that date. I could not get Restore to go back to December. System Restore is on and running. Any suggestions would be helpful. I also used System Restore in Safe Mode thinking that would help, but it would not restore to the 27th. System Restore works, but after completing it the message says "could not restore to the 27th).
