System Crash While Playing Game

Jun 25, 2006

A few months ago I built a system for a friend of mine. I had the system running stable @ 2.4 GHz (memory on a 5/4 divider, if I remeber correctly) for a week before I delivered it to him. By stable I mean dual prime overnight, memtest, and hours of COD2 without crashing. Now he has had it for a few months and he is reporting that randomly it will completely shutdown. He primarily uses it to play WoW and so far that is the only time it has crashed. It has not crashed during any other activity but he really doesn't use it for much else. It will usually crash 5 minutes into game play and after a restart it will be stable for the rest of the day. Ocassionally it will crash a few hours into game play. When the behavior first started it would BSOD. Now it just turns off with no warning. After restart it works fine. When it shuts down the standby LED on the MB remains lit but the DRAM power LED does not. I have updated the Graphics drivers to the latest 90 series beta drivers. That did not affect the problem.

Screen Goes Black. While Playing Game.

May 23, 2007

My hardware:
Opteron 170 _Stock settings
Biostar N4SLI Mobo
2GB pc3200 _Stock timings
SB Audigy with newest drivers for XP
ATI x1950xt with newest Catalyst's (7.4's)

Sometimes when i play a game or wake the computer up from sleep mode, the computer screen goes to come back on and instead, the screen goes black, with monitor power light flickering and a loud piercing sound through my speakers. One of the times it happened, the ATI VPU Recovery came up and asked me to submit the crash report through email, but that only came up once, the other times, there has been no warning, no recovery, no errors, just blank.

Pressing A Key In Playing Game, Freezes The Computer?

Jan 12, 2010

Ok, so recently i experienced this typing problem where typing took up a bunch of CPU in the task manager and lagged out everything. When i would try to play a game for example; i would press and hold w to walk and my computer would freeze until i let go, stopping all the video and sound. So i went into the computer and took out the CMOS battery for a minute or two put it back in and restarted my computer. NO TYPING PROBLEMS! But then on my next boot up they come back again?

Slowdowns And Long Boot Up Time - Playing Game

Apr 23, 2006

My laptop have been having these random slowdowns / stutterings. It is characterized by the mouse cursor acting jumpy or actual slowdown when I'm watching a video or playing a game. After a couple of minutes pass, the slowdowns seem to be gone. However, sometimes they do return later on an arbitrary notice. The slowdowns
seem to occur when I initially open a program such as Windows Media Player, Winamp, Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0, or playing a game such as Guild Wars (slowdowns also occur within the game when I open and close the chatbox). As I mentioned before, the slowdowns will cease after some time is spent with the program opened. In addition, start up seems to take a bit longer than it used to be.

I have used spybot, ad aware, McAfee virus scan, disk defragment, and disk space clean up. I have also used registry mechanic and other optimizing programs, but the problem is still prevailent. I doubt that
it's my laptop temperature as it never really gets all that hot.

System Facing Continuous Reboots After Installing Game?

Oct 7, 2005

I went to play Half-Life 2 last night, just as I do any other time. It informed me that there was an upgrade for my ATI Radeon 9550 video card and wouldn't let me proceed without it. Really wanting to play, I went and installed the update. After rebooting after the update, I noticed something. Some applications (i.e. Skype, MSN, etc.) weren't working properly. Then, I started getting random shutdowns.

I was able to boot into Safe Mode and do a System Restore back to before I installed the new driver. This did not solve the problem. So I called ATI, and they instructed me to uninstall the ATI Drivers and reinstall it without Catalyst. So I did, and it worked... For about an hour. My computer then rebooted and now refuses to boot, safe mode, debug mode, normal or otherwise.

System Crash / Bad Ram?

Sep 7, 2006

My girlfriend is having an odd computer problem. Anytime she tries to rip or burn a CD her system will shut down - no errors or warnings, just poof, gone. If she tries to reboot right away it will crash on the restart unless she gives it a few minutes of down time before restarting. She's running XP and has a gig of ram but the system itself is going on two years old, bought at a convention and has no brand name. Could this just be an issue of bad ram?

Some System Sounds Not Playing, And Other Weird Problems.

Oct 21, 2005

My Windows Start and Exit Windows sounds weren't playing at all. They were playing before, so I have no idea why they would suddenly stop working. I also noticed some other strange occurrences, including Windows booting unusually fast (i figured this might be why the sound wouldn't play, ie. it didn't have time to, but now I'm not so sure), shutting down unusually slow, icons that are supposed to be in the taskbar aren't, and when the desktop first appears after startup, the right-click menu appears, even though I didn't summon it.

Booted my pc up this morning as normal, but my sound had just disapeared for some strange reason.

Windows sounds seem to have disapeared, i`ve been troubleshooting this much of the day now........

what i have is the following,

Audigy 2 ZS
Onboard Nvidia Sound

to trouble shoot i did the following........

Checked my control panel sounds, it was displaying no device, were it normally shows the Audigy 2

i downloaded the drivers again for the audigy 2

I decided to power off my computer and change the PCI slot, when windows booted back up i re-installed the audigy 2 drivers, it then asked to re-boot again which i did, still it seemed to install ok at the time, it`s still just beeping.
