System started lagging while playing games. Games are also not that heavy, Counter strike and FIFA 08 are the ones i am talking about. My system has sufficient memory 512MB Ram , Pentium D and Motherboard is D945gccrl.

It usually happens after playing games, or just being on it for ages. you can't connect to the internet, when you log off the xp-pro log-off stuff comes up and when you try to open the task-manager via ctrl alt del. you get an error message: application failed to initialise properly (0xc0000017).
View 13 Replies View RelatedI have a high end Dell system (XPS Gen 2) and am running XP Pro, SP2. While I'm in "Full Screen" mode playing games, it crashes on me, no matter which game I play. I get a blank blue screen and hear a competitive "thumping" sound. The only way I can continue from there is to hard boot. I have more than enough memory and processor speed to handle the games I play.

View 6 Replies View Relatedwell for the past couple months I've been getting this really annoying problem with the "System" process randomly using the CPU A LOT on WinXP Pro. This is only noticeable while playing games that use high amounts of CPU usage as well (two of which are Continuum which is an online multiplayer game and Sims 2).
I've been through many forums trying everything that could possibly be a problem. Removed the registry entry related to avis, set the settings to best performance but no change. Now I would assume that it has to do with something running, but just this morning I shut down all my server process, and basically anything I could.
Since purchasing my computer a couple of years ago, I have been afflicted with random 'BSOD' crashes. At the outset, they would occur whenever I ran anything intensive (a three-dimensional game, for example). I was told the problem was likely a lack of/bad RAM, so I purchased more. For a while, all was well, until the crashes began occuring again (a myriad, really: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA, etc.) some months later. Not possessing any vast knowledge of computers, I again purchased new RAM. The problems seemed to subside, though occured still occassionally (no rhyme nor reason).

Before (about 5 formats ago (which has been awile) I would never get this, now it's happening every time and it frustrates me because i'm trying to play and then I get this error then after about 2 minutes my computer reboots.I have 1GB RAM, so i'm sure that's enough to play the games (I play on lowish-medium quality).

Computer has 38 right now CPU usage fluctuates between 0 and 5%, and when I move the mouse, it moves up a little higher now, when I play any type of game, the CPU goes up and I understand that.

After 2 weeks of driver switching and virus scans and too many safe mode boots to count I was convinced it was my RAM going bad, Ran memtest86 and after 29 passes all looks good, So continued playing and dealing with the crashes Sometimes programs would just crash, other times I would get a BSOD and be forced to re-boot. View 8 Replies View Related1. Whenever I play a game on my machine (such as Zuma, Rocket Mania), I get "system has encountered a problem" errors or blue screen crashes. There is no consistency in the errors that I or my husband can see.
I have:
1. downloaded and reinstalled Audio and Video drivers (many times), including reverting backwards
2. run disc clean, System Mechanics clutter clean, spybot, internet clean--if I do these and then boot, the games will run (sometimes).
3. deleted and physically relocated the page file (which is set to max--4096)
4. done full virus scan, registry clean, adscan---my machine is so clean it squeeks
2. Keyboard is freezing when I'm typing (either online or off--doesn't matter which program either). The display stops and I can keep typing. After maybe 10 seconds, the screen catches up. I have deleted and reinstalled my keyboard.
3. I have lost my system sound but have sound on all games (except one).
It pops up while I'm playing Guild Wars, but I did some searching online and found that other people have this problem with different programs, so I don't think that it's program specific.

View 1 Replies View RelatedLately when I have gone to play java games, at sites like pogo and some other I have not been able to do so. As soon as the game starts to load, the browser crashes. I have both Firefox 1.5.0.6 and the most recent version of IE and the same thing happens in both cases. It has always worked before, and no changes have been made to the system recently. I have SUN Java and it says it is the most recent version when I check for updates.

While in multiplayer mode in Return to Castle Wolfenstein, I would get excessive page file activity which would get progressively worse. Map load times would constantly increase as each new map was loaded until the system reported WOLF.exe had caused and error and would shutdown the game. The solution for my system is to set both the Desktop AND game color to 16-bit. Also, set both to the same resolution. I like 1280 x 1024, but that may be too high for some systems.After this tweak, my map load times went from >1 min to between 10 and 20 seconds. Right where a P4 1.5 with 256 megs should be.

Running Windows XP and the Celeron processor regularly jumps to 100% usage for no apparent reason. The system then slows down to become almost inoperable. I have replaced the mother board, doubled the RAM, wiped clean the Hard Disk and reloaded all software the problem still exists. Is it possible that the CPU fails such that it cannot cope with the load, but continues to operate inefficiently, or is the failure mode of a CPU such that it will not operate totally?
View 14 Replies View RelatedWhen i put my computer in standby or hibernation...about 75% of the time, when i bring it out of said state, i can use instant messaging, play online games, my internet works, but not my internet browser. neither firefox or IE works, it acts just as if i was offline. my second problem...is when using a program that opens an HTM or HTML file inside itself (counter-strike, anti-virus, just about anything), it asks me before it opens it, and if i click ok, it opens it in my internet browser, and i have no idea why. this gets REALLY annoying, especially during online gaming when i can't see in-game guides to do things, and it opens up 3-4 dialog screens before every single game.

I know you all seen this problem before but I've got to try. I have a Compaq, with a 60 gig hard drive, 384 of memory, 1195 Mhz processor and running windows XP. My computer runs like it was at the tops 300 Mhz. I've check for virus and spy ware, deleted unnecessary files, uninstall most of my games, defrag the c drive and defrag my registrey. I even changed my battery. And it still runs slow. Any suggestion on what I can do? I'm about reading to throw it. Also it is constantly freezing up on me. Man I thought XP wasn't to do that. I had the system running stable @ 2.4 GHz (memory on a 5/4 divider, if I remeber correctly) for a week before I delivered it to him. By stable I mean dual prime overnight, memtest, and hours of COD2 without crashing. Now he has had it for a few months and he is reporting that randomly it will completely shutdown. He primarily uses it to play WoW and so far that is the only time it has crashed. It has not crashed during any other activity but he really doesn't use it for much else. It will usually crash 5 minutes into game play and after a restart it will be stable for the rest of the day. Ocassionally it will crash a few hours into game play. When the behavior first started it would BSOD. Now it just turns off with no warning. After restart it works fine. When it shuts down the standby LED on the MB remains lit but the DRAM power LED does not. I have updated the Graphics drivers to the latest 90 series beta drivers. That did not affect the problem.

On my old (and I do mean old: win98, 64mb ram, etc) computer when I listened to music my system sounds were muted, which was really nice. My old computer had an older soundblaster sounds card. My new computer (xp home) has onboard sound and when I listen to music I still get to hear all the system sounds, etc (ie, cards being dealt in solitaire.) Did it have something to do with my sound card on my old system?

My Windows Start and Exit Windows sounds weren't playing at all. They were playing before, so I have no idea why they would suddenly stop working. I also noticed some other strange occurrences, including Windows booting unusually fast (i figured this might be why the sound wouldn't play, ie. it didn't have time to, but now I'm not so sure), shutting down unusually slow, icons that are supposed to be in the taskbar aren't, and when the desktop first appears after startup, the right-click menu appears, even though I didn't summon it.

to trouble shoot i did the following........
Checked my control panel sounds, it was displaying no device, were it normally shows the Audigy 2
i downloaded the drivers again for the audigy 2
I decided to power off my computer and change the PCI slot, when windows booted back up i re-installed the audigy 2 drivers, it then asked to re-boot again which i did, still it seemed to install ok at the time, it`s still just beeping.
