Stuck In Endless Circle Loading Desktop And Wall Paper

Dec 29, 2008

I believe there has been a small HD problem, the result is that when I boot up, it goes thru normally till it loads the desktop. The wall paper shows up and it starts loading the tray with its programs. During that load, it stop, re-loads the wall paper and starts loading the tray again... sometimes it stops and just has the wall paper up with no icons. When in this state, you can run any program by bringing up task manager and running it in "applications" "new task". I have found that I can run almost any program by getting to the "start" menu fast enough during the time it is loading.I have run a chkdsk in read only mode and it reports errors during phase 2. I can put the PC into the "circle" mode if it is sitting still with the wallpaper by running Windows Explorer. I have tried doing a system restore, went back one day and it seemed to restore, but nothing changed - and - now I cannot do another restore. It shows restore points as available, but when I press on their date nothing happens. The rest of the restore programs responds normally.I hesitate to run chkdsk in repair mode since it might leave the computer useless and it is the way I am writing for this help ! I assume there are some sectors that include WINXp that are bad. It all started while I was online and the PC went a little nuts, I shut it down after a quick scan with Symantec anti virus ( thinking I may have picked up a baddie). The scan showed nothing. The symptoms started on the first reboot.

Stuck In Loading Desktop And Wall Paper

Dec 29, 2008

I was working when my system seemed to go a bit crazy, bunch of windows opened up and told me that my virus protection was not working etc.. I closed them all and ran a quick scan with Symtec to see if I had somehow picked up a virus. Decided to reboot. When I restarted the computer I had this strange circle going on. It goes thru a normal bootup, and when it is loading the tray, it starts going in a circle. Starts loading up programs and then restarts and then restarts etc. Most of the time, after 3 or 4 times it ends with just the wall paper visable. Now, at this point the computer seems ok, I can run most any program by starting them in Task Manager ( applications, new task etc...). In fact that is how I signed up for this forum and wrote the note. BUT I cannot get the desktop back. The only way is to run Windows Explorer, via task manager, then you get it back, but it does the circle thing continously. IF you can get a program started during the part of the circle where icons etc are visable, then it will run. SO, I tried doing a restore, went back one day and ran the restore. Seemed to run normally. BUT the symptoms are the same ( now it was close to midnight, so I should have gone back farther). NOW, when I tried to go and do another restore, to go back farther, the restore program runs normally, except it will not let me choose a day. Shows many possible days and the help runs etc.. the buttons "push" but nothing happens.

Deleted All Preferences - Wall Paper No Icons Except Recycle Bin

Mar 19, 2010

I seem to have deleted all my preferences from windows. I was trying to get rid of a virus, maybe this is the virus. When I booted up today I was welcomed by a default wall paper no icons except recycle bin. No files on the desktop, no saved emails, no browser preferences, actually no preference for any program they're all gone. If any thing where did all the files from my desk top go?

Stuck On Loading Screen

Jan 19, 2005

A few weeks ago, I was having virus problems on my computer, along with various other problems, such as Norton not working. One of these problems was that I would boot up my computer, and it would be stuck on the Windows XP loading screen with the little green bar forever and would not load the user screen. However, I could get the computer to boot up in Safe Mode with Networking and could get just about everything to work fine. Thinking that the problem with loading was a virus that had erased some of my system files, I reinstalled Windows and reinstalled Norton correctly along a Sygate firewall. Everything was running fine, I was running Spybot and Ad-aware every day and a full system scan weekly, but today, I started having the loading problem again. I have no idea where to start fixing it. I am currently running Safe Mode with Networking, so I can use the internet and most of my other programs, but I want Normal mode back for obvious reasons.

Stuck On Blue Loading Screen

Jul 5, 2005

Yesterday, I acquired the "istsvc" spyware, and could not get rid of it. I ran an anti-spyware program, and it said it would run again when I restarted my computer to finish the job. I restarted my computer, and it never finished booting. It goes to the black screen with the Windows logo and the blue scrolling line just fine. Then it goes to the light blue screen with the dark blue borders and the words Microsoft Windows XP in the middle, and just stops. I know it is not frozen because there is a mouse pointer on-screen that I can still move. It stops at this same point no matter what mode I try to load in. I am using XP Home SP2.

WinMCE - Stuck On Loading Screen

Mar 22, 2007

Last night my roomate was using my computer and kicked my surge protector off. The result was my computer wouldnt boot up. I played with it for a couple of minutes turning it on and off. Finally I opened the case and blew any dust out and tightened a few connectors. Turned it back on again and it seemed to boot up normally. I logged into my account and the desktop started to load up. The icons began coming up and then it froze. Control + Alt +Del would not work. So I manually turned the computer off. I attempted to boot up again and this time when I typed in my password I got stuck on a "Loading Preferences" screen. I attempted turning the computer on and off a few times hoping XP was just having an XP moment. Not the case. Next I tried booting in various safe modes. Right now I'm in Safe Mode with Network and it works perfectly. I tried to restore to a last known setting, didn't help. I did it both via the list after hitting F8 and within safemode. I played around with some account settings and now have it so I don't have to type in a password when logging in.

I tried booting up again, and now I'm stuck on the "Windows Welcome" screen. Its terrible. I've done virus and adware scans. Nothing has helped. Right now I don't know what else to do. I'm not sure if I have the actual WinXP MCE CD. I have to search for it, but I'm fairly sure it did not ship out with the computer. Obviously the next step would be to reload Windows and hope it repairs the problem. Otherwise I will obviously have to reformat. Basically I'm looking for any suggestions other than those two that may solve this problem. My computer settings should be listed below.

Boot Up Just Gets Stuck On The Loading Screen

May 24, 2006

My brother's computer froze so the only way i knew to turn it off was to uplug the power.. I did that and ever since then i cannot get the computer to boot up all the way it just gets stuck on the xp loading screen.. Ive tried starting in safe mode, normal mode, and "last know configuration that worked" mode.. When i boot from my boot disk i get into the window's console, i try and choose the repair option, when it lets me do this it asks for a "administrator password", i dont remeber using one when i installed windows. I know the "quick" fix is to do a complete reformat and install, but my brother has alot of work files that he does not want to loose. This is my brother's computer, i always make a backup disk of my files for this reason.. but he didnt so im stuck betweena rock and a hard place.

Stuck At Loading Screen And Booting From CD

Oct 31, 2009

My problem is that whenever I boot up my loading screen for Windows XP will stop, and it wont ever go again. (I left it on over night to make sure). Now I've had this problem before and I fixed it with putting in the Installation CD and hitting setup Windows XP then repairing my Windows XP. After that I wouldnt lose all my files but I would have to go through this annoying 30-45 min setup every time.

After that it was finished installing Windows XP Professional, it rebooted and I got this XP loading screen. Computer Stuck At Loading Screen

Jan 31, 2010

I had a power supply die out of nowhere on me about a month ago. Last night I replaced it, and when starting up my computer I was given the option to boot windows normally, in safe mode, or in my last known configuration. Any of these options take me to the black screen with the windows logo and the blue loading bar, as usual. However, I am stuck at this screen. I've never encountered this, what do you think could be the problem?

It would be very much appreciated. I wanted her to be able to go straight to the desktop after loading and not get the log in screen. so I went to start, run and typed (I think) userpasswords2 or something like that and unchecked the box about passwords being allowed or something. (I found a site that explained how to do it)anyway, now when I try to start up the PC, it gets all the way to the desktop and then super fast an error message comes up that says "Windows could not load." and I can't read the rest because a new screen appears over the top of it that says "Windows is loading" but it stays there for hours and never loads.

Stuck On Loading Your Personal Settings

Jul 24, 2008

I am running Windows 2000 Pro and it was working just fine yesterday. This morning I go to turn it on and it's stuck on the loading your personal settings screen. It acts like it's about to load and than it restarts and does the same thing over and over.I did read somewhere that it probably has to do with a corrupted file in my settings...but since I'm the only one who uses the computer I don't have it set up to have more than one account setting. I can't even go into safe mode..the same thing happens. I did try to go to last known good configuration and that didn't do anything. It there a way I can log on without loading my personal settings? I can't think of anything I did yesterday that would cause this problem except that I ran a spy ware scan with SpyBot and it deleted a few bad things. I also don't have a Windows boot CD since my computer was built by someone and he didn't give me the CD.

Stuck At Loading Personal Settings - Cd Boot HD Not Found

Feb 13, 2008

I am having a major problem logging into windows. When I get to the log on screen, and click my user name (the only one available) it gets stuck on "loading personal settings".My first reaction was to boot from CD, at which point I could not get my USB keyboard to work during the boot which made it impossible to "hit any key to boot from CD", so I fixed that by plugging the keyboard into the default keyboard port with an adaptor.
When I managed to boot from CD, I tried to do a repair install and got the message "Setup cannot find Hard disks bla bla cannot continue, windows will restart".

Stuck Loading Screen After HD Install On Older Inspiron

Feb 2, 2009

Let me quickly start by noting that I have familiarized and comprehensively searched every forum for assistance on this issue, and have attempted multiple fixes for the following problem. That said, if anyone absolutely knows what my problem is, and if is addressed elsewhere, please direct me. If not, thank you VERY MUCH in advance for your help!History: 30 GB HD filled up on Fiance's Inspiron 1100. I purchased a compatible 60 GB HD, enclosure, and then I cloned the original HD to the larger one. Then, after restarting the computer with the original drive still in the case, the computer failed to boot. So, after attempting to fix the original boot issue, I physically installed the new, 60 GB HD with the cloned drive on it. The computer fired right up. I was elated. Then I ran defrag. Not a good Idea.Defrag crashed at about 40% complete. I attempted to reboot the computer, to no avail. The computer seems to boot fine, but then gets stuck permanently at the Windows XP loading screen. The loading bar moves, the mouse moves, yada yada. Nothing else. I CAN boot in safe mode, and access all my files (which i DID backup first). However, I want the damn thing to work, considering I just bought the new HD and the computer otherwise worked just fine.I ran CHKDSK from the recovery console, which found errors, but did no good. Then I ran CHKDSK /r, which took about 24 hours to complete. Errors found, some "unrecoverable," to no avail.I cannot access my system startup BIOS w/F2 (or any other key) during startup, no matter how early i start to tap the key. That is strange to me. Thus, I cannot boot from the XP CD.What do you all think my options are? The HD is physically OK, I think. The fact that safemode seems to function pretty flawlessly is a good sign, right?
I have read to use bartPE to correct the registry. I have read to reinstall (?) the BIOS. I am ready to re-format the HD and re-install XP, but I'm not sure how to do this, or if I can do this via DOS or the recovery console, as again, I cannot access the system startup settings to change the boot sequence.Again, at this point, is there a way to fix this? If not, can I sweep off the HD and re-install XP? How might I do that?

Stuck At Loading Screen Safemode Doesn't Work

May 31, 2008

I'm pretty sure I had a trojan or something cause my computer kept getting worse. I tried several scanning programs but none of them cleared it up completely.Anyway, now I can't even get past the windows loading screen, and if I try to log in through safe mode, I get stuck at the screen that says "SyS.multidisk" or something. Is there any way that I can log in dos mode or something and completely wipe my system clean and reinstall windows xp? I don't have the disk, it came with windows XP already on it. I don't care if I lose all my files, I just want a working computer again, free of any trojans or anything. So, can I somehow log in dos mode or something (I don't even know how to do that), wipe everything clean, including whatever virus screwed up my comp, and reinstall windows XP without the disk? I'm assuming I have a copy of windows XP saved on my hard drive or something, cause my computer came with windows XP already installed and they didn't give me a disk.

Extended Desktop STUCK / How Can Restore To Normal Mode?

Apr 18, 2010

I've been trying over 2 to 3 weeks to solve this issue. Hopefully, THG can offer a distinct solution that works.Problem: My Windows XP Home Edition is "Stuck" in the "Extended Desktop" mode. I have only 1 monitor (an Acer H233H). Acer offers NO support; just a run-around. I tried to find out from them if there's a problem with their drivers.I noticed the problem recently when updating 'security' fixes, etc. from Microsoft.Normally, I run my system in 1280x800dpi. It used to work fine that way.By right-clicking the desktop and choosing a .jpg graphic, I could perform each of the 3 display options with no problem; (stretch, center, tile). However, now the following happens. When I choose "Center," the graphic is displayed on my monitor 'centered' in the virtual 1280x800 area. In other words, it is located toward the right side and lower right portion of my monitor's physical display area.

The real problem is when I choose to "Stretch" the same image, it stretches it to the full 1280x800 size, and (NOT TO MY PHYSICAL SCREEN SIZE)!It did not use to work that way. It used to always center and/or stretch to fit my physical screen size, even while in 1920x1080 resolution.HOW DO I GET IT BACK TO NORMAL?
* I've updated my ATI drivers w/CCC.
* I've updated my Acer monitor drivers to their latest offering.
* I've reverted back to older ATI drivers versions to test with, but that didn't work either.
Note: the only thing that DID WORK (more or less) was when I used a tool called "System Tweaker" (by Uniblue) and had it FORCE WINDOWS TO USE CLASSIC MODE. The display worked perfectly, but I began getting "Windows.EXE" critical errors, Memory location Errors, etc.

After Deleting Icon Had Paper In The Recycle Bin There Were Files

Dec 27, 2007

I finally need to update to Vista. My PC still works well, it's just been having some problems lately. Anyway, The reason for this thread is because something bizarre happened. I had just sent 2 or 3 files to the Recycle Bin. Then I right-clicked it and hit "Empty Recycle Bin". It deleted the files; that's all well and fine. Then I noticed, that after I deleted them, the icon had paper in the bin like there were files in it. So I opened it and saw nothing. I closed that and saw the icon still said there were files in it. So I right-clicked, hit "Empty Recycle Bin", then saw the same old "Are you sure you want to delete (insert file)?" message. Instinctively, I hit "Yes" and started reading what file it was while clicking it. BAM. The file was I thought for sure my PC was screwed for good. But I checked in "HP_PAVILION C" and it was still there, I looked again at the "Recycle Bin" and everything was fine.
