I've got some kind of spy/adware that has replaced my wallpaper with a big sign saying I've got spyware and to click a link to remove it. When I right click the wallpaper and select properties I don't get any of the normal options. Also, in the tray by the time (in the bottom right of the screen) is a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark which periodically says I have spyware and launchs a pop-up. Furthermore, my internet speed has slowed right down. I've just run various spyware and adware programs and done a TrendMicro online check and deleted all the files it found, but the problem won't go away.
I was surfing the net and my McAfee virus scan told me i was infected. Soon after my desktop wallpaper showed an ad for free spyware removal software and now i can't change it back to the regular desktop. When i right click it acts like a pic, and won't let me go to the desktop properties.
I have read the previous posts of the blue wallpaper coming up where you are infected with spyware. I have been cursed with this happenening to me. I have your directions but I must know what to do about my hijacthis log file. I need to know what to fix. Here is my log file. I will really appreciate if you can help me as soon as you have time. My computer is where I run my business and I am freaking out.
I was online with yahoo messenger and I tried to go to a site and realized that my homepage addy had been changed, I figured spyware. I didn't think much about it until my wallpaper changed to something that appears to be an ad for spyware removal software with a "hotlink". I signed off and tried to run my spyware program and got an error message that it could not be loaded. I then tried to run my virus program, same thing. I then tried to get online to make sure my virus program was updated, same thing. It has also did this with several other programs as well as not allowing me to reset my computer to an earlier date (system recovery) nor will it allow me to get rid of the spyware ad wallpaper.
I am trying to fix my mother in laws computer for her. She had lost her Task Manager, which I have restored, and she has the Spyware Black notice on her desktop that I just can't get rid of. I tried a variety of fixes I have found. But so far, none have worked.
Recently got a piece of spyware called SpySHeriff. The program installed on my PC claiming to be a spyware fix program (i did not allow the install) i could not remove the program for a while but after looking through help topics on the net i found a registry to delete and fix the problem. Another thing that happened was that my wallapaper changed to this message : SYSTEM STOPPED system has been stopped due to serius malfunction. Spyware activity has been detected. It is recommended you use a spyware removal tool to prevent data loss. Do not use the computer until all spyware has been removed.
I have a P4 2.4 Ghz with XP SP2 instaled. Three days ago I was instaling a download tool and was inefcted by major spyware infection.I downloaded MSoft antyspyware tool and cleaned the PC.Still I have this desktop image with blue background and black rectangle in midle screaming SPYWARE INFECTION :Your sistem is infected with spyware. Windows recommends that you use anyspyware removal tool to prevent loss.
The last thing I want ANYONE to see is My Pictures. Why is this damn thing offering THAT place as first choice for dektop wallpapers? I pointed it (browsed to) Windows/Web/Wallpapers but it STILL insists on my pictures included there! And there is no obvious, clear cut way to change it, I have to google all over the place to find the damn answer! Pure wasted time. to remove that place and prevent it from ever showing up as a first choice for wallpapers?
I am wondering if it is possible to find the location of where your wallpaper pic is temporarily stored while it is your current wallpaper. The reason I ask is because I thought I saved the pic before I made it my wallpaper, but I cannot locate the file. Also, is there a way to find out the name of the file? Then I could do a search, but as it is, Desktop properties just labels it "Internet explorer wallpaper
I have a 27" Dell Monitor with a Radeon X850XT card. Never had a problem with it and this new problem has just come out of no where. All background wallpapers leave a big gap down the left hand side of my screen. The pic's are big enought o fit the screen resolution and if I choose a smaller pic and 'center' it in display properties it does not center..I have just updated drivers and no change.Have WINXP ser pack 2
There are two excellent spyware removal apps available and they are both FREE so there is no reason to not use them regularly. The two best apps there are for removing spyware are SpyBot Search & Destroy and Ad Aware. IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT YOU USE BOTH OF THESE APPS SINCE ONE FINDS WHAT THE OTHER MISSES AND VICE VERSA, YOU ARE NOT SAFE USING JUST ONE OF THEM. There is one other app that I HIGHLY recommend is for spyware prevention, SpywareBlaster. This app sets certain registry entries that prevent spyware from ever installing, it DOES NOT run in the background using any resources, you just set it and forget it. Once you have installed these three MUST HAVE apps you then need to update them and keep them up to date. I would recommend checking for updates weekly, it’s just like your antivirus app, you need to stay protected from the latest spyware out there. To update SpyBot just open the app from your start menu (use the advanced mode option) and select “search for updates” it will then show you what updates are available for download, always install all the updates. Another feature that SpyBot has is called “Immunize”, you will see an icon for it. Select the icon and under “Permanent Internet Explorer Immunity” select “Immunize” this works in the same way as SpywareBlaster in blocking new spyware. It also gives you the option of locking your hosts file against hijackers, I highly recommend using this option as well. To update Ad Aware just open it and select “Check for updates now”. For SpywareBlaster it is mostly the same, open it up and select “Check for updates” once you update this you then must select “select all” and then “Protect against checked items” so that the updates you just did take effect. Anything these apps find is spyware and should be removed, if you choose not to remove what is found then you have no one to blame if your pc crashes due to spyware or your privacy is invaded (including these companies stealing your credit card number and identity
I'm experienceing problems running the internet. Each time I try connecting tho the Net, despite changing the default homepage which has been changed to c:secure32.html I get a warning message about spyware I have also run Spybot Search and Destroy and the Lavasoft Ad-ware and removed all of the critical objects.
My PC is infected with some bad stuff and I'm not sure what to do. So far I have tried to run Spybot S&D, Registry mechanic, ewido anti-spyware, Spyware Doctor and SpywareBlaster all of these programs seize when carrying out a scan and I have no option but to close the pc down with the power button. I am pretty much at a loss as what to do next and was hoping one of you kind souls could help me. I am running xp.
PC Keeps crashing and stuff when it is left alone even for 5 minutes.Sometimes does it when I have several applications running and also during gameplay. It never used to do this. I also have recently installed 2 adventure games, Nokia, Sony Ericsson and Samsung Software.
It all started with my Firefox randomly crashing when it felt was necessary. now i just tried using my windows media player and got the message "wmp is not installed properly and must be reinstalled - do you want to go to the site and download it". and when i restarted after i thought WMP just closed incorrectly the last time, i had the windows XP theme loaded (i use, and prefer the classic look). ps. my WMP is still fungooed. posting a HJT log.
I installed windows the other day and it wiped everything off the puter, is there any way to get it back?i had photos that i cannot get back and music etc, even some of my projects?
I share a wrieless internet connection with the main computer in our house. Mine is in my room. Everytime I restart my computer, or log off, whatever, and log back in, my internet, msn and stuff like that, do not work. It says it cannot be found, or try connecting later (something like that) Its not my wireless thing because The signal is there and reads 90%. But when I click on Limewire, a message pops up and says a firewall restriction oor something like that. I have Mcafee firewall and so I tryed turning off the firewall.
there was a whole bunch of porn on my Win Media player 10, I no longer can open an albw by hitting send because send does not exist in the drop down menu , stuff like burn list, and rip do and I have never had it like that. The worst is that there are files now on my puter that I cannot open because they say they are password protected, like the winZip and some other stuff I am using XP sp2 I have Pen 4 1.80 ghz and I am pretty low on mem ihave been using an accelerator til i get paid to buy some memory, a recent new thing I did was I d/l'd WINMX I tried emule but Norton sent me a notice of something being unsafe so I removed that, I installed Skunk RealArcade but right away these probs I am speaking of started so I dumped that.
I am encountering a few errors with my PC that seem to be unsolvable. Nobody here has been able to help me with them so I have decided that I want to reinstall Windows. However, I am wondering if there is a way to do this without deleting all my programs? In other words, can I do it without formatting my PC?
I would like to delete all user accounts except one but before I do how can I move some of those user files over to the user I will keep without them being moved as shortcuts? I would like to create copies not shortcuts.
I've got Windows XP Pro, SP2. Say your mouse quit working. Isn't there a way to move around and select stuff with the keyboard? I've looked in "Help" but I must not have known how to phrase it because I could find nothing. Could somebody please tell me where to look?
It's not the biggest problem in the world but all of the games provided by windows have just disappeared. Literally I logged on, went to play spider solitaire and it wasn't there! And I haven't done anything to it. If anyone knows of a way of getting them back that would be helpful. And also Windows deleted the flash player device, just randomly. And I've downloaded it again but it still doesn't work.
Alright, my in laws are having a problem with their computer and they said that last weekend Windows XP (SP3) asked to reactivate so they did without a hitch. I've never had a computer ask to do that unless I changed some hardware (which they did not) but maybe it's just never happened to me! So last week (a couple of days after the reactivation) they said weird things started happening. For instance if you go to the start menu to active windows, it comes up with a blank screen, the Windows search function comes up with a green screen and the little dog but that's it, IE doesn't load unless you type in an address and I couldn't get any web page to load that uses Active X. I ran the Kaspersky online test with no problems found and I couldn't run the antivirus from Eset because it requires Active X. Windows media player also doesn't load, it just brings up a blank screen. My father in law was able to defrag the computer though. I didn't have much time to really play with it so I'm not 100% sure what else isn't working but I know Firefox, Utorrent and VLC work fine. Has anyone had a similar problem or know where I should start to fix this?
All of a sudden, I don't seem to be an administrator here any more. I've been trying to download some stuff that requires that I be an administrator on this computer to install. It so happens that I'm the only one using it. Could some setting have been inadvertently changed? I'd appreciate anything you can say or do to fix me up.
I been using my PC for a few years now & it's been fine ever since, but now every time I start my PC every application transforms into a different font/style before going back to normal. My system is a XP Home SP2 & I'm using Firefox as my browser. The last month I have been going through spyware/malware cleaners, used everyone one of them including Hijack This. The problem does not seem to be spyware. Now the problem all started when I clicked on some website when I was searching for an old obscure foreign band, at that moment my browser turned into a completely different style for a second.
My desktop icons and task bar disappeared , i cant right or left click but i can pull up the task manager and get online and stuff, ive pulled up a couple of different solutions that helped momentarily but after i shut down and started again i had the same problem.
