View 23 RepliesI am really hoping that one or a few of you can help me with my issue. Back in June, I reinstalled Windows XP Professional on my computer. Previously, the PC kept freezing, saying Windows Explorer error, etc. Unable to do any work at all on my computer without it freezing, I reinstalled Windows. Problems solved. Except now, since then, I have had no sound at all coming from my speakers! I am missing the audio drivers, I think. Finally, yesterday, I downloaded Realtec AC 97... and now I can hear things opened on Quicktime from the internet, but cannot hear any sounds from websites or other programs I have on my computer. The little speaker control, that is usually displayed permanently in the right hand corner of the Windows toolbar, doesn't show up. I still have Volume Control on my computer...but of course cannot hear anything.Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do? I've tried unplugging the speakers and then plugging them back in to no avail. I don't think I have the installation CD for the speakers anymore, as I got them a few years ago. But if I did have them, is that how the drivers would be reinstalled?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI reinstalled XP and updated the drivers, including for my soundblaster audigy 2 card and now i cannot get sound from any application; however, i can get sound (from speakers) when Windows boosts and at startup.
View 5 Replies View RelatedAfter a while my sound will cut out and when I try to play things in Winamp or anything it will stay stuck @ 0:00The sounds will sputter for a second and then freeze. Also when the sound dies, sometimes programs will start to freeze up to the point I can't even kill them in tskmgr. System sounds don't play either.I've tried updating to the latest drivers. I tried an older version of the drivers too.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI reinstalled XP Pro from scratch, overwriting the original partition. Everything has worked fine, apart from I have no sound - the system is not even picking up the sound card in control panel, which unfortunately means I have no idea what the sound card is in order to download the drivers to see if this is the problem. The sound is on according to the BIOS.

View 4 Replies View RelatedReinstalled XP Home after a major crash, everything came back except sound. Tried to install the drivers, but the device wouldn't let them. Used the disc that came with the motherboard, a Gigabyte S-series. Have installed all updates and service packs from Windows. Done everything by the book, but to no avail.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Dimension 8200. The HD died, so I replaced it with a HD from another older Dell that had Window's 98 installed on it. I upgraded to Windows XP Home with the CD that came with the 8200. Everything works except there's no sound. There are no errors or conflicts in the device manager. I've loaded the drivers that came with the sound card and I've loaded drivers from Dell's web site. Still no sound. Mute is off.As far as I can tell, there is no on board sound.I've also loaded the chipset drivers, although this was after I finished the XP upgrade and had sound issues.I try loading SoundMax but I get an error at the end - driver not found.I've tried checking the set up (F2 when booting) to see if the sound card is disabled or if I could disable onboard sound but the only sound option I find is the PC speaker. The only other thing I've found on Dell's web site to try is to reformat the HD and start from scratch. I'd rather not do this if I don't have to.

Apart from various clicks when system starts and closes down? I am receiving messages from windows media centre that there is a problem with your sound device? Error ID = 0xC00D11BA, Condition ID = 0x00000000..When I plug the twin computer speaker plug into the line out socket I receive a short series of bleeping sounds from the speaker which I believe indicates the connection is correct. A motherboard function..I have left clicked on the Gigabyte Sound effect icon and a sand timer momentarily appears but nothing else. I believe a speaker configuration panel should open? If I right click a list appears - Sound manager, nothing happens if I click this.Multimedia, Windows media player, sound recorder, sound mixers, I get a response from these when I click on them.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI just reinstalled XP on one of my computers because it had some problem. It is a dell E1505 laptop. Got windows loaded and started doing the drivers.I got to the chipset driver they suggested and after it was done installing, my mouse no longer worked and I had to use the touchpad. Looking at the Device Manager, it looks like some of my usb hubs are not active. I tried plugging the mouse into all the ports and nothing happened. It is just a dell standard mouse, so it shouldnt need any additional driver support.
this one's got me stumped. all of a sudden most, but not all, of my winxp sound functionality has stopped working.mp3s, wavs and saved videos play fine with winamp or media player sound is good.but sound from sites like Internet and google video doesn't play. the system sounds don't play. the volume icon in the tray is gone.i've reinstalled my sound drivers (ac97), ensured that 'display volume icon in tray' is checked, volume levels are good, speakers are plugged in (obviously since i can play mp3s). the device manager shows everything to be working ok, no conflicts.
View 14 Replies View RelatedMy xp pc the sound is no longer working on it. I have tried changing the settings to allow the volume control to appear but its greyed out. I have downloaded and installed various drivers from realtek by still struggling to resolve this issue. I have contacted the computer manafacter but they could take a while to reply.
View 8 Replies View Relatedmy keyboard got messed up and stopped working. When I was messing around with the back of the tower to try to fix it, I somehow killed my sound off too. Eventually, I got a new keyboard, but after adjusting with the stuff on the back of the computer tower the sound still didn't work.
Since my sister's computer specs and mine are the same, I checked out the device manager on both of the PCs to see what was missing from mine. I found out that it was a "Realtek AC'97 Audio" listing. So of course, I google it up and download what I find. However, after installing it, it still doesn't work. It doesn't even show in the device manager! And to make matters more confusing, when I start up my computer, it says that I can press Shift+F10 to configure it. When I do that, a DOS-like menu pops up where I can change a few options but nothing I change will get the sound working.
When I go to Accessories --> Entertainment --> Volume Control, it says that there are no active mixer devices available.
I don't think it's related to viruses or spyware. I've scanned multiple times with TuneUp, Spybot, Ad-aware, Norton, and a few other programs.HiJackThis information:
Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1
Scan saved at 5:58:14 PM, on 9/5/2006
Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)
MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180)
(Also, I have no clue why it says WinNT 5.01.2600 on the platform listing. That started happening when I was working with the TCP/IP connections, though it's not important as of now.)
If you need me to post any other hardware listings or, well, anything about my computer, just ask.
The sound on my PC stopped working about a week ago. Hadn't installed anything in at least the few weeks before it stopped.
I decided to re format the PC a few days later thinking that it would be fine, which initially it was, am running XP professional. Windows did all its updates as per normal and the sound stopped again.
Reinstalled the PC yet again to try and get to the bottom of things and this time went through things a bit more slowly. Did it's first lot of updates, was fine after those. That was yesterday that they updated. Tonight installed Service Pack 2 and thats when it has stopped.
In the Sound and Audio Devices section of the Control Panel it is saying there is no audio device installed, yet I had installed it via the CD that came with the motherboard. Soundmax sound on an ASUS k8v SE deluxe motherbord. why something like this may have happened?
I recently lost audio playback on my pc. It runs Windows XP and uses Creative SB Audigy Sound Device. It worked just fine until recently. I booted the pc up for the day and discovered no sound. Under "Device Manager" the device is listed as working properly with up-to-date driver. It is the only audio device that can be "un-installed" or "enabled/disabled" other than some "UniModem half duplex audio device" that is disabled. Under "sounds and audio device properties", "Audio Tab" the default playback device is listed as "modem line #3 playback". I tried to change the audio playback to the "Creative SB Audigy", but their is no other option than the "Modem #3 Line Playback". In the same, "Sounds and Audio Device Properties", under the "Volume" tab, it says "No Audio Device".

View 2 Replies View Relatedso after finally getting a massive virus off of my sister's computer i've had to re-install everything, msn, anti-virus stuff etc. but now i have two problems that i can't seem to find the answer for anywhere! first, windows (xp home edition) keeps asking me to activate it everytime i log on, i click on the bubble and follow the steps, i go onto "activate through the internet" and then "no don't register just get activated", i put in the product key that's on the side of her desktop and it says it's invalid, so i tried a keyfinder and it came up with a different one, so i entered that in instead and that didn't work either. it may be relevant to mention that the operating system cd might be from my parent's laptop or my sister's computer, i could only find one so i used that. any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
secondly the sound card driver isnt working i don't think. the log on music works but there's no icon on the bottom of the screen with the picture of a speaker. i go on the internet and click a random Internet video and that doesn't have any sound. there's nothing wrong with the speakers (because i unplugged them and put them into my laptop and they work fine).
Onboard sound will not play CD or wav files etc I installed a Creative Live card still no sound, the sound options in volume are greyed out.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI use XP Pro with service pack 2 and never had trouble with sound from my toggle keys. I go through control panel and the accessibility options then put a check mark in toggle keys hit apply and ok, the check mark disappears and I have no sound when I hit the cap lock button on the keyboard, the way I have used it before.I also click on the sound tab and put a check in the use sound sentry check box so it will flash the screen when I accidentally hit the cap lock button. I've never had a problem with these functions before now nothing will stay checked or function at all.
