No Sound / Following Win XpPro Reinstall On New Drive
Jan 26, 2007
Giga-Byte GA-81K1100 AGBPro 8X/Dual Channel DDR Mother board. Not sure if this is the correct forum, apologies if it is wrong.I recently reinstalled WinXPPro on a new SATA drive and everything appears to be OK except following this reinstallation I am getting no sound from my speakers? Apart from various clicks when system starts and closes down? I am receiving messages from windows media centre that there is a problem with your sound device? Error ID = 0xC00D11BA, Condition ID = 0x00000000..When I plug the twin computer speaker plug into the line out socket I receive a short series of bleeping sounds from the speaker which I believe indicates the connection is correct. A motherboard function..I have left clicked on the Gigabyte Sound effect icon and a sand timer momentarily appears but nothing else. I believe a speaker configuration panel should open? If I right click a list appears - Sound manager, nothing happens if I click this.Multimedia, Windows media player, sound recorder, sound mixers, I get a response from these when I click on them.

I reinstalled XP Pro from scratch, overwriting the original partition. Everything has worked fine, apart from I have no sound - the system is not even picking up the sound card in control panel, which unfortunately means I have no idea what the sound card is in order to download the drivers to see if this is the problem. The sound is on according to the BIOS.

Reinstalled XP Home after a major crash, everything came back except sound. Tried to install the drivers, but the device wouldn't let them. Used the disc that came with the motherboard, a Gigabyte S-series. Have installed all updates and service packs from Windows. Done everything by the book, but to no avail.

I have a Dell Dimension 8200. The HD died, so I replaced it with a HD from another older Dell that had Window's 98 installed on it. I upgraded to Windows XP Home with the CD that came with the 8200. Everything works except there's no sound. There are no errors or conflicts in the device manager. I've loaded the drivers that came with the sound card and I've loaded drivers from Dell's web site. Still no sound. Mute is off.As far as I can tell, there is no on board sound.I've also loaded the chipset drivers, although this was after I finished the XP upgrade and had sound issues.I try loading SoundMax but I get an error at the end - driver not found.I've tried checking the set up (F2 when booting) to see if the sound card is disabled or if I could disable onboard sound but the only sound option I find is the PC speaker. The only other thing I've found on Dell's web site to try is to reformat the HD and start from scratch. I'd rather not do this if I don't have to.

I am really hoping that one or a few of you can help me with my issue. Back in June, I reinstalled Windows XP Professional on my computer. Previously, the PC kept freezing, saying Windows Explorer error, etc. Unable to do any work at all on my computer without it freezing, I reinstalled Windows. Problems solved. Except now, since then, I have had no sound at all coming from my speakers! I am missing the audio drivers, I think. Finally, yesterday, I downloaded Realtec AC 97... and now I can hear things opened on Quicktime from the internet, but cannot hear any sounds from websites or other programs I have on my computer. The little speaker control, that is usually displayed permanently in the right hand corner of the Windows toolbar, doesn't show up. I still have Volume Control on my computer...but of course cannot hear anything.Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do? I've tried unplugging the speakers and then plugging them back in to no avail. I don't think I have the installation CD for the speakers anymore, as I got them a few years ago. But if I did have them, is that how the drivers would be reinstalled?

I am currently running xp home and i am having major problems...i want to start all over and reinstall from scratch. When I get to setup it tells me that setup cannot continue because the version currently on my computer is newer than what I want to install (which is odd, it's the same program as far as I can tell!!) I want to do it anyway but when I try to boot from the cd...it doesnt seem to work.

I've had to reinstall Win XP Pro on my computer.Now here's the twist, before the reinstall I had the following drives;
C (Computer Drive)
F (My Sister's Drive)
D (Mp3 & Wav)
E (Digital Pics)
I proceded to reinstall Win XP Pro only to discover that my original C drive was now labeled F, and the original F drive is now labeled C.
I installed it anyway thinking I could just change the drive letters afterwards. So I thought, I cannot change either one as drive F's status (Boot Volume) and drive C's status (System Volume), and Windows will not allow any drive letter changes to System and Boot volume drives.

I'm trying to reinstall XP on my Sony Vaio laptop after having to replace the hard drive. It won't boot from the CD - it just tells me that the operating system is not found. I had that much figured out. I'm no computer whiz, but it looks to me like the drive IS recognized in the BIOS. I even loaded the XP onto a flash drive and tried to boot from that.

It has 2 drives and the boot drive is split into 2 partitions. I was 'upgrading' his XP (was on C: volume) to XP-MCE and there was a failure, I decided to just do a clean install onto that partition. I deleted the old boot partition and started installing XP-MCE into the now unallocated space. After the reboot to continue installation it stops after post with "Disk error" and "Press any key to restart" messages.
If I boot to the install disk again it shows the storage space as C: and the new installation as D: (opposite of pre-reinstall). I retried with the 2nd SATA drive disconnected and it's the same every time.I can't reformat the whole drive; the storage partition has all the backup data that I saved from the original XP installation.

I have posted this problem before but none of the answers seemed to work. Windows XP Pro SP2 When I boot my computer up I have about 22 GB of space. After about 2 days it's all gone and I have to re-Boot the computer. I have looked at recent files etc but nothing is over a GB. I have also de-installed Bootvis as I thought that might be the problem.

I want to reload XP PRO, clean the haed drive and give him a fresh start, yet it tells me that I have an earlier version and will not let me install it. It says to reboot and start using my XP Pro and it still does not work. I have checked the BIOS and everything is right in it, i.e boot from CD. I for the life of me cannot format this drive so I can reload a fresh copy of XP PRO and all the updates, and then some other programs. I am pulling my hair out over this. What am I missing that I cannot format and start over,

I started another thread a couple of days ago but have progressed a bit since then so thought i would start a fresh one.I have recently formatted my hard drive and lost drivers for my soundcard. I have been onto my motherboard manufacturers website and downloaded the appropriate driver. This worked (or so i thought) the ?Media Controller in device manager disappeared and my soundcard appeared. Media player plays CDs now, as do all my other sound related programs. The problem is i still can't hear any sound!

I have successfully cloned my primary c partition of a dual boot system with XP Pro on the 1st primary partition c: and XP Pro on the 2nd primary partition as d: I can boot into my XP on the c: drive with no problem, but when I attempt to boot into my XP on the D drive it hangs on the blue screen right before booting into the user profiles. And believe it or not it continuously loops making the windows startup sound and the shutdown sound. It does the same in safe mode. I will try to explain the process on what I did so it can help you experts figure out this dilemma

My Help and Support stopped working about the same time I installed the free utility GhostScript / Gsview so that I could view postscript files. I tried posting a question on another usenet newsgroup, but the answer of: click on install on the C:windowsinfpchealth.inf file - resulted in a search for the file dataspec.xml in the C:windowsinfi386 directory - Unfortunately, such directory does not exist on my C: drive. Furthermore, the "K:I386" directory of my Original Win XP Home CD does not contain any file named "dataspec.xm_ or .xml".And beyond that, I ordered a new Win XP SP2 CD, which just now arrived by mail - and there is no "K:I386" directory on that CD, nor does the CD apparently contain any file called "dataspec" (including dataspec.*).Another effort toward resolution occurred via another usenet post I read, which suggested opening the XP command line feature and executing a system status command, that displayed enabled services - I used that method, and switched the Help and Support service off and then on again. Such action did not in-fact enable the Help feature (including, of course restart), despite the indication that the Help and Support service was enabled. I am, and have been, running a purchased-CD version of Win XP Home, with a downloaded SP2 revision (I have not installed the new Win XP SP2 CD). Basically, I want to find out the means and methods for enabling my Win XP SP2 Help and Support feature, that apparently has been disabled or otherwise rendered inoperative. Is a reinstall of Win XP possible and the best choice? What are the other options?
