View 9 RepliesI'm trying to change some settings and file names.Specifically,I would like to know if there is anyway at all I can change the Documents and Settings folder. Not the All Users one, but the folder with my friends' name on it. The system is telling me this folder cannot be changed, but sort of reinstalling XP, isn't there some "back door" method I can employ?

I am using Windows XP Home OS. I have formatted a CD-R disc using Direct CD format utility. When I try to create a new folder on this CD and rename it after the "new folder" appears, the system crashes and reboots itself. I have been able to do this without any problem before and this has suddenly just occurred. I can't be sure if this is the first time I have tried this since updating to SP2. Can this be a problem with Windows Explorer?

View 5 Replies View RelatedAfter reading through the posts, my problem seems so minor. But to me, it's extremely annoying!A search didn't list my problem. My folder setting (Open each folder in the same window) doesn't seem to work anymore. No matter how often I make the setting, clicking on a sub-folder opens that sub-folder in a new window. If I go back to the Folder Options window, it shows that the same window option has been chosen. I have no idea what I might have done to cause the changed behavior. And yes, in the View tab of Folder Options, I did choose Apply to all Folders.
View 4 Replies View RelatedOn my D: drive, I have several folders (500 something I think) containing mp3s that I have ripped from my CD collection. What I want to do is transfer all the mp3s contained in these folders to My Music (I have just upgraded to Windows xp media center edition). Rather than going through each folder manually, and going through the time consuming process of selecting, copying and pasting every mp3 in each folder, is there any way I can select all of the mp3s in all of the folders automatically, and have them copied over?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been updating my winamp thumbnail database with all the associated album art. Every so often, I run into a little problem. When I add a new image to a band's folder and rename the image "folder.jpg" I get an error message stating that I "cannot rename the file because there is already another with the same title" or something along those lines. This typically happens with albums I have previously added album art through with my "Zune" (mp3 player).

View 2 Replies View RelatedAs the title states, whenever I right click on a file, beit on the desktop or in a folder somewhere, it can take anywhere between 10 and 20 seconds before I can click on "Delete" or "Rename". When I try clicking on one of the two, my CD drive (or hard drive?) starts spinning and it won't let me click on my desired action until it's up to its "cruising speed" in RPM.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've got this problem. It's a little problem, but quite annoying. It's only present on one of my 3 PC's. The problem exists on a new Toshiba laptop that I recently bought. It's XP home, and I put SP2 on it. Here's a description of the problem: Let's say that I've got an IE website open, and I want to delete a file. I right click on the file, and then click delete, and everything's fine. I get the little window that says "do you want to delete this file", and, as I move my pointer to click OK, as soon as the pointer gets into the desktop area, the delete window disappears. In order to keep it "on top", I've gotta close out or minimize the IE window. It's the same no matter what file or folder I open. As soon as the pointer enters the desktop, the file or folder disappears. It won't stay "on top". I've tried to find a way to keep the current file/folder "on top", but haven't found one.

View 13 Replies View RelatedRecently I had some problems with my OS in that when I re-booted I began getting the disk check utility running and it found bad clusters in my hard drive. My hard drive is partitioned into a C drive with only the OS and programs on it and a D drive with all my files saved there. The scandisk found bad clusters in both partitions. When I chose the automatically repair option I thought my problems would be fixed. Instead what happened was that it took a folder which had about 200 mp3's in it and converted it into a file with no file extension. So it isn't even recongnized by my OS.
