SP2 After Clean Installation

Jun 17, 2005

I have been preparing all week for a clean install of XP this weekend. The only question I still can not find an answer to is whether or not I can get the SP2 from windows update after I have reinstalled XP I purchased prior to SP2, in August 2003. I recall reading somewhere that it was not available after a certain date. I would like to confirm I can get all the neccessary updates from microsoft's website after I have reinstalled.

Clean Installation Of OEM Home

Dec 30, 2005

Owing to the possible of a corrupted VGA driver I thought I would do a ''Clean Installation'' of the Windows XP OEM Home Edition [including Service Pack 2] within my recently purchased new computer unit. From information read I tried to ''Boot'' from the Windows OEM XP program disk. After a few tries I found could not do same. [It appears you cannot use this process to do a Installation from a Windows OEM XP program Disk???]And afterwards on investigating within the XP program disk I found Within ''Install Windows XP''= ''Welcome to Windows Setup'' = ''Installation Type'' = [dropdown arrow] ''New Installation Advanced'' =This is the process I used and I found the computer ''C /Drive'' still retained the ''Program'' folder containing all the programs I had been using?? Yet the ''Program Menu'' showed nothing??It now appears I have not installed the New Installation of the XP OEM on a ''Clean'' disk?

No Audio Device Found After Clean Installation?

Dec 2, 2009

I recently found an old Gateway desktop in my basement. It is from a few years back, but I figured I'd do a clean install of Windows XP on it and run it in an extra room.I copied the drivers over using a program called DriverMax, and it seemed to work successfully. I had the internet right away and everything else I tried worked. The only problem I am having is that there is no sound. It also says there is no audio device found. Device Manager says I have the most up to date Legacy Audio Drivers, but I am still having this problem. Is there another driver that I might need in order for my computer to recognize an audio device.

Will Not Enter Sleep Mode - Clean Installation

Sep 9, 2008

I have a home built machine running XP Pro. It is a clean installation since had some recent other problems with it and completely formatted hard drive and reinstalled XP. I have added all the Window updates including sp3. I have a GE Force 6200 video card and have installed all the drivers but the machine will not enter sleep mode either manually or automatically (I mention this because I have read elsewhere this was a problem for Vista but haven't seen anything anywhere for XP). I even set the bios to force sleep mode and nothing happened.

Computer Freezes At Logo Screen After Clean Installation

Jan 26, 2008

I have a Seagate Barracuda ATA IV model ST380021A. Don't know if it's SATA or not. I have a SOYO SY-P4VTP M/B. After I do a clean/new install on a formatted drive, (I even installed the SATA drivers that came w/ the mobo just in case) the computer freezes on reboot after the initial installation where it says "Setup will continue after reboot" or something like that. @ the bootscreen with the logo, the bluish bar scrolls a couple of times and freezes. Does anyone know why? I tried installing at a friends house and it worked fine so I know it's not a harddrive error but I place it in mines and it doesn't work so I create a new install and same problem.. I know it's not a temp issue since it's running < 100 F. THis is a genuine copy of XP. Just in case I used my friends.

Installation/ Un-installation Of Daemon Tools That Corrupted Some Registry Files?

May 4, 2007

I've lately had some problems with my win-xp (home) following installation/ un-installation of daemon tools that corrupted some registry files. After an unsuccesfull repair-instalation of xp, i re-installed xp onto the secondary partition of my hard drive (d:, the original instalation being on c. I was intending to format the c: drive, then instal a copy of xp-pro i have onto it

finally moving the files i want to keep back from the d: drive onto the c: drive. The problem i'm now having is on formatting i recieve the error message 'system partition is not allowed to be formatted', as it is the primary partition. Can i go about formatting this drive in partitions and proceed with the re-install without having to remove the files i have on the d: drive? How might i go about this?

Corrupt Installation & Repair Installation Hangs?

Jul 4, 2006

I started up the computer, watched the BIOS detect the RAM, hard drive, etc, and then was greeted by a blank screen instead of the Windows boot screen. It proceeded though, and after a few seconds flashed to another black screen, this time displaying the cursor. I'm guessing this is the logon screen, but nothing displays but the cursor. (Note that the video card and monitor are both fine...I tried swapping them out just in case.)

I am trying to install SP3 on a Windows XP Home (currently SP2). The installation is hung on "Finishing Installation - Performing cleanup". I downloaded the installer from the MS Download center (it didn't appear in Windows Update). Is it safe to turn off the computer (since I can't close the installer), or should I let it sit for a while longer (it's been hanging for a few hours)?

Like To Clean Install On New HDD From Old HDD

Jul 16, 2005

I bought 2 SATA HDDs and would like to set them up as RAID and clean install XP and all the drivers/programs on them. I don't want to use those image drive programs to transfer the old drive to the new drive. My old HDD has XP on it (activated) and I would like to format it and use it for data storage later. Do I need to reactivate after I clean install XP on the new HDDs (same mobo and CPU)? I have NOT plugged the HDDs in my computer yet.

Clean Or Re-Install Of XP

Feb 23, 2010

I am unable to reinstall my HP printer driver and accompanying software and after spending more than enough time trying to remedy the problem, I've decided to reload Windows XP either by a clean install or a reinstall per this thread. I hope to get some advice here. The details that led to the problem of being unable to install my printer drivers and my attempts to remedy the problem are very long and drawn out and may not be relevant to this post or my desired solution, so I will not go through them unless requested. Suffice it to say that I have spent a good 30 hours attempting to remedy the problem, with a good portion of that time spent with free HP Support. None of their "fixes" or any of my own attempts after lots of research have been successful.

I have installed XP several times on several different machines and thus, I'm very confident with a routine install. However, due to a special configuration on this computer, I need some advice.First: Will a reinstall per this thread potentially fix my printer problem? I know there may not be a definitive answer here, but I would just like to get some feedback. If more detail is needed on the problem, I will be happy to provide it.Second: Due to space restraints on my boot drive (18 GB SCSI drive), I moved the Documents and Settings folder to a large IDE storage drive (E:) on this machine. Will I be able to refer to the Documents and Settings folder during a clean install, so that all of the current settings will load? If not, is there a solution for getting the current settings loaded into the clean XP install?
