Oct 24, 2004I have Windows XT. I have too many Favorites on I E . How do I save the Favorites to a disc [ floppy or CD] and save hard disc space?

Floppy Disk - Rewriting Itself When Transferring Favorites
Sep 22, 2005I have been trying to transfer my "favorites" from my old computer (windows 98) to my new one with windows XP. When I copy the favorites onto the floppy I can see that they are all there. BUT, when I put that floppy into my new computer it changes the favorites contents to those on the new computer. For instance: I had probably 100 sites to copy and my new computer favorites only has about 10 sites. Now those 10 sites are on the floppy and not the 100 I placed there.....I'm confused.

Aug 28, 2008Computer is dying here and I would really like to save all my favorites and such how can I do this? Do I need to download all the other programs over again. I use satellite and they don't only give me 20 mb an hour and with this slow computer I may not make it. Systems I was using a gateway windows xp home edition to a toshiba laptop window XP professional it has 458MB in physical memory and I also have a external hard well 2 of them lol. the new one has most of the documents and such in there.

I am trying to find the correct drivers for my system. I have a ASUS SK8V motherboard with a raid and SATA hard drives. So looking at the ASUS website I look for the correct driver

but find it is 6.77Mb. How can I install this from a floppy disk?
Sata Hard Disc - Make Floppy From The Drivers
Mar 17, 2007i have a p5s800-vm mother board of asus and the setup of windows xp (pro-sp2) dont find my hard disc and i need to make a floopy from the drivers on the disc to help it found the hard disc. that what i do to make that floopy (as some nice guys here tell me to) i go to the drivers folder on the disc of the motherbord than chose "raid" folder in it i chose the floopyimage folder there i have 3 folders
1.964plus180(181)
2.964_180
3.965_965L
the guys here tell me to put the files of the 965_965L on the floopy without the foler imself. so in the 965_965L folder i have two files "SISRAID and "TXTSETUP.OEM" and aonter folder calld "raid" and in it i have to folders "winxp" and "win2000" and each folder has its own file. so what i do was to put only the "TXTSETUP.OEM" file on the floopy without noting else cause someone here tell me it all i need to do......
Booting Up Takes Long Time - Save Any Files To Floppy Or CD
Jan 3, 2005I bought a new Dell Dimension 2400 about a year ago. It runs Windows XP Home. I don't remember all of my specs (I'm at work), but here is my problem.
First, booting up takes a long...time. When I finally log in, I get an error message: HP AiO Device Object failed: hRes = 0x800706BAThe RPC Server is unavailable.Maximum retry attempts exceeded.I click ok and it brings up my desktop, but originally would not bring up my Start button and taskbar. After messing with it all day yesterday, I finally got a taskbar, but not my usual one. I can open some programs, but can't save any files to floppy or CD. Everything is very slow...and I do mean very! Most of the time the Task Manager will show "Not Responding", sometimes it will eventually start running again and sometimes I just have to "End Process".

Jan 18, 2005I formatted my drive and reinstalled XP last week. I saved all the pictures in the My Pictures folder to CD and I also saved the Favorites to CD. I have learned (from Mr. Brody) how to put the pictures back in the My Pictures folder. I now need to know how to put the favorites back in the Favorites menu. Do I simply go down the page of links and add each link or is there some other way?

Mar 9, 2010I've been searching for most parts of the net and the forums here and did install uninstall restore my notepad, paint and wordpad but nothing seems to work.When these files are opened, nothing seems to be a problem. But whenever you attempt to save by Ctrl+S, or the by clicking File>Save or File>Save As the program automatically closes. This has been a consistent behavior for the 3 softwares.I'm using Windows XP 64 bit OS and had no error messages of any sort except that these programs just close themselves when a save attempt is done.I did virus and malware scans by Avast, ESET Nod & Kaspersky and nothing was detected.Reinstalling isn't an option for me now as I don't have any optical drive... besides, this may be very hard for me but I'm willing to suffer for the sake of learning.

So, if I was saving a photo, instead of clicking on My Documents >> My Pictures, I was able to just click on My Pictures, ect. Sep 27, 2007I'm running XP Home on a Sony VAIO. The PC has a partitioned HD: C (main), & D (storage). I defrag every night.
This evening, I got the dreaded "not enough disc space to complete disc defragmenter" message. Suddenly tonight I'm showing only 2% free space on drive C. I went in and changed my System Restore percentage from 12% to 6%. Now I'm showing 6% free space (but still can't defrag).
I shouldn't have had to change my System Restore percentage tho. I'm sure that's not the culprit. Up until last night the C drive was nowhere near this full. Something's there tonight that wasn't yesterday. ...A whole LOT of something. The Defrag graph is showing a nearly FULL C drive with a LOT of red "fragmented" files"
I've been doing a bit of downloading, but after it's on the desktop (part of C), I move it to the D storage drive (which has a LOT of free space remaining).
Something's fishy. I'm no expert, but I'm thinking I need to find some type of application to tell me what's suddenly on that drive taking up all this space. Anyone have any helpful suggestions?
Cannot Burn Disc - Roxio Recognize Blank Disc

Jul 19, 2005I get a little confused by terms like restore vs recovery, which are often interchanged incorrectly IMO -and then there are the terms bootable disc and startup disc, which can also get confusing - and I have seen other terms used also.
please explain exactly what you mean by the "bootable XP CD". I have a new XPsp2 home edition pc, and I had a millennium before that (which I made a "startup disc" for in add/remove programs - so I guess a startup disc is yet another term for boot disc - it was only a 3-1/2" diskette (less than a meg), and it would get my millennium to boot by typing "scanreg /restore" at a prompt that you eventually came to.
For my XP, I immediately made a Compaq "recovery dvd" (it took 2-dvd's) utilizing the "Compaq recovery cd-dvd creator" in start/programs/pc tools. This dvd (can also use cd's but it takes 8 or 9 cd's I believe) contains everything that is on the pc (from the factory), and which is also in the system recovery partition D:. There is also something called a "Recovery Tools CD", which I did not burn, since it did not seem necessary, after
reading about it in the "troubleshooting and system recovery guide" that came with my Compaq. I will burn that one to, if you can explain what it will do, that I can't ultimately achieve by using the "recovery dvd". The manual said that one of the things the "recovery tools cd" did was to remove the system recovery partition (drive D), so you could use it - but I'm sure there is another way of doing that from within the pc once you got it running using the recovery dvd - am I right - I've never messed around with partitioning, since I have no need to.
My new XP did not come with any "bootable CD" per se, and I made the "recovery dvd", as stated above. So please shed some light on what the "bootable XP CD" is that you refer to (because you said that a "restore Cd is really overkill" - I assume you mean the "recovery CD" that I mentioned). Also please provide your comments on the "recovery tools CD", and any other comments you have on the various terminologies I have mentioned above.
Pro Explorer Save Or Save As Dialogs
Jul 23, 2005When downloading files, any type files, just using IE's dialog, or using a Download Manager's dialog, Explorer's Save or Save As panels *will not* allow me to create a new folder on XPpro [current user's] desktop! I am allowed to save the file to the desktop, and of course, can then create a new folder directly on the desktop with the context menu, and etc. It will allow me to create a new folder anywhere else and save any type file being downloaded into that new folder.It simply will not allow me to create a new folder on the Desktop.Could this be some kind of registry alteration?

My home page will load, and when I click on a link within my home page I can go to that site, but when I click on a favorite, all I get is a blank page. Oct 14, 2008I have tried to install a new xp pro sp3 disc on a new computer but have been getting errors in the installation. I have tried 3 different times but it says that the disc is missing some components and when it is final it does not work properly.
I finally talked to a tech person that asked me if I had another disc and I have an older sp2 disc. He said to install that but when I put in the key for my new disc it does not work with my older disc. I finally put in my old key and it worked fine. THe installation went off without a hitch but I won't be able to use my old key when I activate it. When I install the sp3 download will I be able to change my key to the new disc key?
Adding Favorites
Aug 12, 2007I add a Favorite to IE.
It's OK to add a new Favorite Folder, but when press final enter, it hangs IE for ages, the hard drive goes bananas, and FINALLY it comes back to life, entered.
I do have a lot of favorites. Is there a Tweak for this?
