I want to do a clean up of my registry and was wondering whats the best program out there to do this? I would like to learn more about the registry but don't have the confidence to go messing about with it right now, so think a program to do it for me would be the best option.

One (Windows Registry Repair Pro) gave me 264 problems, with 255 invalid paths being part of the problem. This one sells for $9.99, is it a good one? I guess there aren't any free registry cleaners available? Which registry program does CNET suggest to be a good one? I have Win XP SP2 Home edition My computer has slowed down and it is probably from the registry right?

View 10 Replies View Relatedi downloaded this program from major geeks called 'RegScrub XP'. i assumed that it locates and deletes registry entries that are old and not in use.so in the program, on one of the tabs, i think it was 'user defined...' (or rather), i located all the registry entries and then deleted all of them.so now all the files and programs on my computer cannot open. all of the icons in the start menu and everywhere have that unspecified icon image, and when i try to open it it says - use the web service to find the appropriate program

I tried to delete the registry entries which were bad, I had 30 of them, but the these two will just not go away, even by doing them manually, such as saving as a backup then deleting it manually and remerging. They just show up no matter what I do, or so use programs like Registry Mechanic, which I found only mediocre, very far from the ratings. to delete these two entries somehow from someone who is actully knows how to without using several so called registry cleaners, which only work partially.

The start programs on list suddenly dont open, computer freezes up, did the error-checking but I cannot seem to get some vital prgrams to open up. When I attempt to uninstall a program, the corresponding programs "uninstaller", asks for a network resource. Here is an example screen shot of what I am seeing when I attempt to uninstall Ad Aware: It doesn't seem to matter what I am attempting to uninstall. In all of the uninstall scenarios that I have seen Add / Remove programs asks for an MSI file with a similar name to the program that I am attempting to uninstall.

I was able to locate them using "search" then open and pin to start menu. (The search function displays i.e. shortcuts for "administrator", "guest" and the other user, but not for me. The icons do display on the "all programs" list for the other user). Any suggestions as to how to get them back on the "all programs" menu?

My registry is somehow holding onto this old program even though it does not really exist on my C-drive. Another problem that I am having is: When I go to add/remove programs, there are NO programs. The message says to wait while the list is being populated but nothing ever shows up. From what I have read, it sounds like a registry problem but I don't have a clue how to fix it. Microsoft's answer is way over my head. I tried registry mechanic but that didn't help.

View 8 Replies View RelatedOkay, a few months ago i installed an app called REGISTRY MECHANIC. it was supposed to make my computer work better. after compacting the registry, i restarted to find out the laptop didn't start any more.a few months went by and finally i got a copy of WINDOWS XP HOME. i went into the REPAIR CONSOLE and replaced the boot sectors and the mbr boot sectors... still nothing... so,i went ahead and installed WINDOWS XP HOME... now, when it starts up it asks me to choose between 2 versions of WINDOWS, the older one or the new one...so, now MY DOCUMENTS a nowhere to be found...what i'm thinking i need to do is reformat the drive and use the installer cd that came with the laptop to get it up and running again (drivers, etc.)...but, there's one problem:

I have several registry cleaning tools on my PC like registry mechanic,WinASO registry Optimizer and those included in my programs ASMW PC-Optimizer,Tune-up utilities and WinTools.net Professional.One thing I am puzzled is that all the registry cleaning tools have found certain problems when I run one after another.Once i completed my registry scan using all above tools and fix all problems,I can't understand why a number of registry problems still exist the next day.I did not carry out any important task other than just spend the most 1 hr of web surfing.
Recommend a more powerful registry cleaning tool to curb such problem.
