Leftover Registry Values After Reformat?

Sep 7, 2006

I like to reformat my computer periodically, it keeps everything running smooth. The time had come to reformat, so I popped in my XP Pro install disc and let it whirr. I did the usual deal, deleted my old partition, and recreated a new one using a Quick NTFS Format. The install went smoothly. Now however, I'm looking at some registry values, and I have all kinds of entries from old programs that were installed before I formatted. There are a few games on the list (FEAR, Oblivion, etc), the only problem is, I haven't installed those programs yet. It seems as if the format I've done didn't actually clean everything off.

I'm attempting to install SQL 2005 on my mobile workstation and I ran into an error that I cannot resolve after hours of googling. The following registry key Code: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionPerflib09has a REG_MULTI_SZ entry called "Counter" that should contain a list of readable lables and values,I cut the entry's value short, the hex data extends to about 3000 lines (I exported the entry and opened it with a text editor). The entry for "Help" looks the same.

A utility program says I have some 80 entries in Registry with "Mozilla." FF is my one and only Mozilla product so I'm guessing something in one of the80 is the problem. The utility, JV16PT, will erase them. Is this safe? I will reinstall FF and let it make new, and hopefully good entries.

Undeletable Registry Keys

Mar 24, 2007

The utility I use on my computer (a 3GHz P4 running Win XP) is SystemSuite 7. Like all utilities, it has a registry cleaner. However, every time I do a registry cleanup, four keys show up as empty and are automatically checked by the program for deletion, but when I hit the "Next" button to delete everything that's checked, those four keys cannot be deleted because "Access is denied". As I say, all are reported by SystemSuite as empty. I've checked them and they are indeed empty. I tried booting into Safe Mode as Administrator to delete them using regedit, but access is also denied in Safe Mode. How can I get rid of these? SHOULD I get rid of them (i.e., even though empty, do they server some obscure purpose)?

Deleted Registry Keys By Mistake

Dec 18, 2004

This will sound really like a really stupid thing to have done, but basically i followed a troubleshooting article on the microsoft website to try and fix an error on my PC, (every time i shut down i get a big blue screen thing). Part of what it suggested was removing a number of files from the registry. I did this but unfortnatly i seem to have just made things worse. The error message still appears when i shutdown but now i seem to have deleted something needed for my CD drive as this now says that the regisry is corrupted in its error box. Is there any way of getting the files i deleted back ( i did not make any backups).I am running windows 2000 and the files i deleted were Cdralw2k and Cdr4_2k

Restoring Default SP2 Registry Keys - Download And Reinstall SP2

Sep 1, 2005

I was not able to install a new version of an engineering software package because something was left behind in the registry from the older version that I had removed. So I stupidly deleted a couple of registry keys that looked related to the software without documenting them (not just the tags, but the folders with the long alphanumeric strings). Now when I try to install the software it gives me an error. I ran system restore but the problem is still there (I don't think it restored the registry keys I deleted). Is there a way to install all of the default Windows SP2 registry keys or to download and reinstall SP2 in general?
