View 10 RepliesI couldnt install the service pack 2 because the installation says my product keys are unvalid and it gave a website to find the solution to my problem. But I couldn't find anything that fits my situation from this website... It's www.howtotell.com. I have the valid product keys now but couldnt find a way how to reenter it. Is there anything to do beside reinstall WinXP? I have another CD with valid product key.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have Windows XP and I use AOL. For the past few days, every time I sign onto the internet, blocks keep appearing on the bottom bar, next to my start button that have a round ball on the left side and then it says Aurora, part of the ABI network. I have no idea what this is or how to get rid of it. When I right click and get the drop down box, my options are: move, size, or close group. What is this and how do I get rid of it?

When power finally came back on I turned on my computer, but even though I didn't lose power again the phase went up and down. When I tried to turn my computer on again I got a blue screen, and then I started getting an error message when it tried to load windows 2000.

View 5 Replies View RelatedA client of mine has a Gateway 300s PC. She has two CD's that came with the computer that sound somewhat relavent: A drivers CD and an Applications CD. Unlike most Dell PCs of today, she does not have an Operating System CD that can be used to reinstall Windows. I was wondering if any Gateway owners for PCs purchased around 2003 know if Gateway actually sent recovery CD's out with their PCs or not. If not, is there a recovery partition on the Hard Drive? If not, are there steps that can be taken to obtain a recovery CD from Gateway?

I have had Windows XP on my computer for 3 years, during that time I have had no problems with updates. A couple of days ago updates were running when I got the following message box. Service pack 3 setup. Access denied1! Microsoft will now un-install the current updates. At this point I was in a hurry to leave and shut off my computer thinking that when I started up again, the updates would resume their activity.......
View 9 Replies View RelatedI haven't heard anything from my other post, so I thought I would make a new one. I am actually on the computer I was having problems with. I got my anti-virus loaded and ran, found 4 viruses. I also installed Ad-Aware, and Spybot S&D, and ran, keep finding spyware, especially one called Admess. I keep getting pop-ups saying that I have problems with regeristry files, and wants me to download some regeristry repairing software. I can't understand how this stuff was missed by the format?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have actually had it working right 3-4 times, but everytime I install something that needs to restart to finish, I have this problem. Like the first time I had it working, I didn't have any problem with my internet connection, because the first thing I did was start downloading & installing the windows updates. When it was fiinished installing, and wanted to restart, I started having problems with it rebooting again.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I am using a program, whether it's Word, or internet, or just looking at a folder, the blue part of the screen at the top just "deselects" itself, and turns that pale blue/gray. This happens about every few minutes. If I'm in the middle of typing when it happens I hear the "beep" error sound and I have to click on the window for it to be "chosen" again (turns blue) to continue typing. This happens whether I have one program open or many.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Gateway CX2618, w/ windows XP tablet edition 2005 version 2002, sp2. And wanted to wipe it clean and reinstall just the things I use. Plus my Tablet side of things hasn't worked in a long time and I was hoping the clean install would fix that. But my recovery DVD isn't working (could be user error). I DO have apps that I need to keep and I think I've backed them up to my external HD correctly.
View 2 Replies View Related1) I have seen this problem posted on another forum in the past, but the thread never led to a solution.2) This problem has occurred with both a EIDE hard drive and a USB camera. I have also seen reports of it happening with other drives.
(NOTE: the items I am referring to use native WIN XP drivers; I have posted this problem on other forums and the first responder always tells me to go to the manufactrer's site to download the latest drivers.)3) The problem: every time I reboot, the Hardware installation wizard reports the following: "The specified service does not exist as an installed service."4) Once this dialog box is closed, the yellow warning diamond appears nect to the device in hardware manager, and the driver "disk.sys" is NOT installed, although "partmgr.sys" is.

View 13 Replies View RelatedMy Friend got an old laptop, it has a XP Product Key on the bottom of it. But he didn't have a XP CD. So I let him use mine CD. But the key didn't work. So we tryed 2 more copies of XP CDs, still no luck. we ended up just installing Windows 7 Beta so he could have a temporary solution. (And he wanted to try it out). Any ways I am getting really annoyed, to have a license key and not be able to use it. Any suggestions? Oyeah is there a way to know if a key is going to work with a CD with out having to waste 15-20 minuets for the CD to load all of the files. Spending hours putting XP CD in and typing 25 charters only to get "The Key you ended is invalid" got really boring.

View 18 Replies View Relatedam trying to reformat a Dell Dimension on Windows XP Home, and have never had a problem like this, don't know what I am missing, the machine was purchased with XP home on it, and there is a reinstall disk. When you do the reformatt when it comes back up and runs through the process it does not ask for the product key? It reformats and when machine is supposedly all set up and ready to go half the information such as ethernet card, audio drivers etc is not there. If you are doing a complete reinstall should it not ask for the product key??? This really has me puzzled, I have reformatted 3 times, and am not coming up with the proper setup.

View 7 Replies View RelatedThe sellers I've been talking to tell me that the little sticker they include with the case is the product code necessary to use XP Pro. Is this the actual product key that I use when installing XP pro? I realize that Microsoft is now using an online product registration for XP, and I'm ok with that, since I'm buying the license with the machine.
