View 1 Replies View RelatedOne of the most common XP topic concerns shut-down or power-down issues. The solution can be as simple as going into Power Options in Control Panel and changing the "When I Press The Power Button" setting to: "shut down" or so complex that it simply can't be identified. Sometimes it's a third party product causing a reboot at Shutdown (ie, Roxio CD 5.0 - and there is a fix). Unquestionably, one of the best sites for coverage of this topic is at AUMHA.ORG. I have taken the liberty of pasting the comprehensive information they provide below. Please take the time to locate your specific problem and read their suggested fix. If you still have questions, then by all means post them in the General Questions Forum.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a cable connection and lately I have notice that most of my internet pages are laoding painfully slow. I have clean up the temp files, cache and have check for adware/spyware. I am directly connect to the cable modem so there is no interference with a router. My cable provider says there is no "packet loss" when they ping by IP. They suggest that it is something to do with my PC any suggestions?

Things are really screwy in St Louie...I don't know what the heck i have done, but things are really crazy. I cannot view web pages, everything is moving extrememly slow. I did a system restore, and that at least has let me access the internet.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have posted this problem before and haven't really gotten it resolved. My computer takes so long to load pages its driving me crazy. I feel like I am on dial up. it takes like a minute for a page to load. I have tried the AFT cleaner
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently downloaded numerous IE updates and I believe my problems started there.I've run numerous software programs: Spysweeper by Webroot System Mechanic, Pest Patrol AdAware Spyware Doctor All of which haven't solved the problem. I've even run a dllfix that has produced no results as well. I have WindowXP home edition. I can go to certain websites and they will instantly load no problems, other sites just do not load correctly. I have broadband and it is acting like dial-up to the tee. It seems that the frequently viewed sites have less trouble than lets say a site I pull up through a news site or other. My computer is normally lightning speed when moving through the internet. No pop-up problems or the like.I've tried looking up a thread on here close to the problems I am having but to no avail I haven't found anything similar to my exact situation. On my system mechanic I picked up and disabled a hotkeycommand process along with a Igfxtray program.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm having trouble with pages not loading when I'm on the internet using Netzero and Internet Explorer. It seems to be secure pages mostly (every time I want to order something online, or when I go to a company's application center and try to apply for a job.I am on my second printer (HP 3740). Granted, it's not top of the line, but I just bought it because my old one was broken (I thought) and now it is starting to have the same problems as the last one, and the problems started about a week after I bought it. It started with the printing getting faded, like the cartridge was running out of ink, then it went through the motions of printing but no ink was on the paper. Next it will stop moving, even though the power light comes on.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm getting this perpetual lag issue. Windows folders and internet pages load slowly load slowly, and the mouse cursor responds to clicks when it feels like it. I've checked the mouse, and that's not the problem. I checked Task Manager and downloaded Process Explorer, but I never see more than 15% usage at a time. I've also run AVG for viruses/malware, but nothing comes up. I've had similar problems before, when a piece of hardware died, but so far I can't find any conflicts.
View 10 Replies View RelatedFor few weeks internet hasn't been working properly. It has slow upload rate and webpages and games are unplayable because of the lag. How can I figure out what is causing this? I called the Rogers HiSpeed and they reset my connection but it didn't help the problem. I have Rogers HiSpeed and WindowsXP Media Center.
View 6 Replies View RelatedSome programs (currently hl.exe is doing it :/) are just not closing right. I end them with task manager and they dissappear from everywhere but Task manager, where they stay no matter how many times i click end process. I tried through command prompt, it said it terminated the process, but it just stays in the task manager process list. I also tried through EndItAll, which told me it didn't have permission to kill the program.
View 3 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know how to keep someone from closing programs running in the System Tray? Perahps some software or something to lock access to the System Tray? nFor example: I have a virus program that runs for real-time protection and someone keeps closing the program in the System Tray because they don't like all the icons down there. There is no option in the menus for that program to tell it not to show up in the System Tray.

Every time I click on any of the modes my computer restarts. Just before the pc restarts I see a blue screen quickly flash (i know this is know as the 'blue screen of death'.)
I have put in my XP cd but i cant get it to run so i use recovery not even when I run it from my BIOS Screen
I found this link on this website ... Optimize XP: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/SupportCD/OptimizeXP.html
I did everything, but the one part where it says to turn up the inital and maximum page file size to 1.5x and 3x respectively of the amount of ram in your computer, i had a problem with. I have 1536MB Ram in my computer, and it will only go up to 4096 in the maximum thing. Does that mean i'm losting like 200-300 mbs of ram? What else is there to do?
I got a new motherboard installed because my old one fried itself and the pc was reformatted and windows was reinstalled. Since then, it was working fine. The start-up time had also lowered considerably and it was working perfectly for once. One thing that's been happening for a while, my computer started taking longer to start-up. I figured it was just all the programs etc I have installed. Then, I have this one external drive that I got connected internally. There were times where it wouldn't recognize this drive; it wouldn't show up on My Computer. Otherwise, it was perfectly fine. one of my most important drives (E) has been missing for the last 2 days. it hasn't shown up even once and i'm really worried i've lost data and need to recover it.

I turned OFF my pc manually... and when i restarted back my pc is working but there are problems.
-My system restore will open but it only has a clear white window.. nothing in it but white screen.
-I am not able to use the USERS window under control panel, getting the same thing for it, just a white window.
-My mcafee security program is also not working, getting that same white window.
i am able to see the title bar of the window but nothing else aside from that.

Im not sure if this is the right place to post this but here I go. I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 with WXP. Everything was fine 'till a day ago, i dont know what happened but suddenly the System Tray Icons started to be very slow, when I double click on them it takes a few minutes for them to open, when I right click on them the options just get stuck there and wont go away blocking the view of the other icons, and it wont let me choose any of them, the volume icon and the internet connection icon will no change even if the volume or signal have changed. Also, the typing in any program became really reallly slow, but I fixed that already.

I recently have had problems with my computer slowing down after clicking on programs such as Firefox. It takes about 40 seconds for the hourglass to go away and then the program will finally load. Other programs also. I have been using some anti-virus and spyware programs thinking I had a virus or spyware , such as Spyware Begone. It found a spyware and deleted it. I tried to use System restore and it only showed one restore point in January (the 27th when I first tried Spyware Begone), but would not restore to that date. I could not get Restore to go back to December. System Restore is on and running. Any suggestions would be helpful. I also used System Restore in Safe Mode thinking that would help, but it would not restore to the 27th. System Restore works, but after completing it the message says "could not restore to the 27th).
i got a new computer and gave my emachines T2885 Windows XP to my brother it was running great until he decided to wipe out the computer which i have done in the past with the system recovery disks that came with it and when he did this about half way thru the recovery we get a ghost.err now it won't even boot up. i have taken it to 2 gentlemen who both charged me and didn't do anything to it but 1 guy gave me a win crash cd and told me that i could get the computer back up and running with this cd. well i have no idea how to use this disk but he charged me 100.00 dollars anyway said he just didn't have the time to fix it that the disk is all i needed. well i am broke for this and still no fix for this computer.
View 10 Replies View RelatedAlright my computer just doesn't seem to be the same anymore. Sometimes my java doesn't work, my online media player doesn't come up and I keep getting anti-virus popups although I have a pop up blocker.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI started loading my games onto it. Insert the CD, and Winamp would hiccup. Then, when it actually starts installing whatever game I try, Winamp plays at half speed, pops and hiccups, and becomes unlistenable. Firefox takes between 10 and 30 seconds to load an instance, and typing is slow, and shows up on screen in bursts. Furthermore, even my System sounds (right clicking, for example) become slow and broken.
