i tried to run it under SAFE mode in case some app might be restricting it from functioning but to no use i even replaced the utility with the original one from my installation disk but even that didn't work out.
but it seems theres some problem with the utility itself because i downloaded a 3rd party pinging utility and it worked just fine!
note: i have tested my firewall and antivirus options..they r not interfering.
On my box at home, I have Norton System Works, which contains a registry diagnostic/sweeper.At work, where I run Windows 2000 Pro, I was wondering...I know there are various registry diagnostic & cleaner utilities out there on the web, but I thought I had heard that Windows itself either includes one on the OS disc or makes one available for download. Is there such a thing as an official Windows Registry utility?
When i try to do the ping command in the cmd prompt, it says "'ping' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."
I have 4 pcs on a network. All with same static IP, and Gateway. Connected to 1 Hub. There is no internet connection.
Im having problems getting the pcs to speak to each other. Some PC's can ping anohter, but it wont work the other way fround (eg, pc a can ping pc b, but pc b can't ping pc a). Why?
they are all part of a network, have the same protocols and clients in Netowrking proertys. Firewalls are turned off.
I have this type of internet http://www.incomich.com in my pc and i am confuse cuase sometimes is fast and sometimes so slow ok wen the guy came and install the internet he came and install a big pole with antena in top of my house and he did a check on the computer inserting a PING number so i was wondering what is that for? (so i copy the number wen he was inserting it) so i did it last night it just show me this number and letters
doing ping to the number i have insert with 32 bytes
I use the TP link router(192.168.1.1) to connect two PC together and there is PPPoE in router and connect to internet . Both PC use cable connect to router. The XP HOme PC get IP 192.168.1.11 . The XP prod notebook get IP 192.168.1.10 . Both network adpator use DHCP to get IP from router. Both XP/PC bootup safe mode with networking . There is no firewall/virus scanner startup . Both PC can connect internet and web browse without problem. I can ping from the notebook 192.168.1.10 to PC 192.168.1.11 But I cannot ping from the PC 192.168.1.11 to notebook 192.168.1.10. Why I can ping one PC from one direction , but it is failure from another PC?
My Windows XP Professional SP2 computer connect to the internet ok through Ethernet cable to my cable broadband modem. If I use the command prompt to ping my modem or any other address it just hangs until I close it down, I have also tried connecting the modem via USB with the same results. Anyone got any ideas as to the cure for this problem. I also have McAfee internet security suite installed and have run complete virus checks and also run Adaware & Spybot S&D.
I have a weird situation with XP Home edition; SP2 is NOT installed: System: XP Home on an eMachines T2742 (2.7 GHZ; 256 Mb RAM; 40 Gb HDD) Problem: Boots to Welcome screen and loops back to welcome screen when any of the UserID buttons are clicked. Ctl-Alt-Del brings up the Classic login dialog box, but still loops back to XP Style Welcome screen when attempting to log in from the Classic dialog. Cannot circumvent the boot sequence, nor get past the Welcome screen to get to any desktop functions in XP. What I Tried: F8 out of startup sequence to safe mode - same thing F8 out of startup sequence to command prompt mode - same thing F8 out of startup sequence to last known good config - same thing F8 out of startup sequence to debug mode - same thing F8 out of startup sequence to boot logging mode - same thing Checked the CMOS settings for odd power or video settings - all default settings appear correct.
How can I disable incoming pings (without a firewall)? Whenever ping.exe in %systemroot%system32 is renamed a new copy is made when someone attempts to ping. Are there other files that need moving/renaming?
Laptop is running Windows XP Professional SP2. Server is tunning SBS 4.5 and Windows NT 4.0. I have two locations with two different gateway IP Addresses. I have connected to each server by changing the domain and IP address. Received messsage "welcome to _____ domain". I connect to network, see all the computers, but can not "map" my drive back to the main server in the other location.I did turn off the windows firewall and made sure all my WINS, etc. was correct. I can not ping the server in the other location. I can ping the server I am currently connected to, and am supposed to be able (can on 2000) to map a drive back to our other office.
A host computer, windows xp, plugged directly into a satellite modem (Internet) and ONE client computer. I had to configure my IP addresses manually, but the host ends in "2" and the client in "3" at the end of the IP string. So - from the client, I can 1) See the Internet fine 2) Ping the host fine 3) Ping the root host (1) fine From the host I can 1) See the Internet fine 2) When I ping the client, it returns REQUEST TIMED OUT Both computers are members of the same group. Both seem to connect fine to the Internet at all times, no problems. The host computer, sees ITSELF, in that, if you map a drive, and you click on Microsoft Windows Network, then the group name, you SEE the computer name. On the client, when you click on the same group, it stalls, and you see NOTHING - neither the client NOR the host (despite being able to PING the host) The Windows firewall is TURNED OFF on both machines. What do I do to resolve "Request Timed Out"? The client is attached to the network via a Belkin Wireless Adapter, which seems to work and connect PERFECTLY. From the client, you can ping the client,(itself) and it responds.
I can't get a full response to pinging anywhere on the 'net. When I do a "ping www.yahoo.com" for example it will return the IP address of Yahoo and reply TTL on the first of 4 lines, but the following 3 gets time outs. I can't go anywhere on the web with that machine, so any ideas of how to fix that one? I've turned the firewall off just in case.
I am hooked up wireless but cannot get anything done or checked in dos. Windows help is useless. Frustrated after 8 hours Have wireless hook up with adapter in computer with the problem. Have windows firewall and Panda antivirus and firewall?
The system used by my nieces no longer connects to the Internet, and while troubleshooting, I find I can't even ping the system itself. I can ping the DSL modem/wireless router, and the system acquires a valid IP through DHCP, but it fails to ping its own IP. Pinging 127.0.0.1 works though. The system is connected to the modem through a CAT 5 cable, and the network says it is connected at 100Mbps. I tried uninstalling Norton Internet Security, thinking it might be an issue with that, but to no avail. The system runs Windows XP Pro, and was recently upgraded to SP2.
Sorry ...been a bad morning...move this to vista...all apologies
vista on a laptop cant get any pages...but i can ping external addresses like google in the browser i any address i type comes up with... http:\ ran a malware bytes scan...removed spyware this didnt help ran winsock repair...this didnt help
I cannot ping xp computers. I can ping win2k machines all day long. The xp boxes are running sp2, but I have a policy in effect that disables the firewall. I also have a policy in effect that renames the administrator and guest accounts. IF the firewall is disabled is there any reason that any of these machines would not respond to a ping request. Wouldn't be a big deal, but my print tracking app requires it. All XP machines can communicate with the network just fine. I can ping anything from each XP machine successfully.
I have 3 PC's on a home network. Everything seems to be working fine with the exception that I am not able to ping the other 2 PC's from this one PC (say PC1). Each time I try to ping any of the other 2 PC's that are currently online, it returns (Timed out). The net view returns the details of the 2 PC's correctly. The surprising thing is that whilst ping returns 'Timed out', I am able to see and access files/folders on both of those PC's from this PC1 computer.
My connection is through a router and the router/modem are using pppoe, I can't access the routers ip or ping it as it says host unreachable and tracert says the same thing. I know 192.168.1.2 is the rite ip as I can access that in another os. (I'm dual booting) This is a fresh installation and I've no idea what to do.
I have this problem. I cannot access Internet. I'm trying with an ADSL connection and with a cable connection trough a LAN with a router. I can ping the router and access other computers in the LAN, but no internet. I have already reinstalled windows, but no success.
I was just connected to the internet and restarted my computer. Now I cannot connect. It is the starngest thing I can ping everythign via IP or by name however when I try to connect to the internet I get Cannot display this page. I have trid setting up a static IP and Obtaining an IP automatically. I am using a Linksys router and have reset it to test. All of my other computers connected via this router are working fine
I have a windows 2000 network with xp clients.I have had some instances with names not being correct when you do an nslookup on them for example if I ping auser I will get back a 1.1.1.1 however if I Ping 1.1.1.1 -a I get xpe00806420e241 which is probably from the image install where is the issue?
Anyone ever seen this, I thought I had misplaced one of my laptops at work and decided to do a ping just to see what would come up.I pinged the name and sure enough an ip address fired back stating it was in my building.I attempted to remote into the pc and saw a name that was one of our exec officers. I had just given this exec a new computer the day before so I was pretty sure she did not have my pc
i cannot connect to my internet connection from one computer, yet another computer in the network (both are connected to a switch and then to a modem outer) can. In cmd.exe in the run command, i can ping any web address with successful results yet i cannot connect to the internet. In the network connections box it shows no data travel between my computer and the server. i have recently installed ed2k and warez but removed both to try to fix the problem. i also tried turning the windows firewall off without effect. when typing in the address of my modem in internet explorer i get no connection either yet i can pping it from cmd.exe so i have no idea wats going on
