View 7 Replies View RelatedI have G speedbooster router and setup MAC address and WPA with password. My laptop can access fine. I have emachines t2882 with xp and USB wireless g speedbooster adapter. I can access internet when plugging in computer lan to lan on router. When using wireless usb, I key in code and says I am connected and green lights show, but when pulling up explorer, it says no connected? Device manager shows device is working properly.I tried setting up automatically assign IP's on the computer and got same result, and put in specific IP I have assigned from the router to this computer with same results as well.Again, looks like I am connected, but explorer does not seem to recognize I am connected.

Recently, i can surf fine from work but when gets home when i plugs into network and gets all the signs of connectivity but when using the internet explorer, i only gets the "Work Offline" option and is unable to use the internet. I have a wireless connection set up as well as the regular ethernet connection. I usually only uses the ethernet port and rarely uses the wireless connection but both are running simultaneously.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI would like to know if this can be done in win xp environment. say I have a folder, A, of pictures only and they all have file extensions jpg eg abc.jpg, xyz.jpg. say I have a second folder, B, which contains all the files of A(if you ignore extensions) and more(but all are pictures.) But all the files in B has extensions NEF instead of jpg eg abc.NEF, efg.NEF, xyz.NEF. My idea is to extract all the files from B that has the same the name as A(ignoring extensions) and either move or copy to a separate folder ie if A contains abc.jpg, xyz.jpg then abc.NEF and xyz.NEF will be extracted and moved/copied to a new folder. I'm not sure where to start. is there a program out there that can do this? or there's a special command to type at the command prompt?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to run command line utilities such as ipconfig, netstat etc.. on
the command line interface I get message such as like that:
C:>ipconig
'ipconig' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
Previously I have been doing work that requires me to unplug my network connection and I need to check my IP address each time I plug it in again. I guess it's not set for static IP.Anyways to do this I usually go into Command Prompt and type 'ipconfig'Now however I just get "'ipconfig' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file".The directory is the same as its always been, I can change it but it doesn't seem to matter what it is.I've checked many other posts and is there something possibly wrong with my PATH variable? I used the command 'echo %PATH%' and it works, the list it gives is very garbled however.

My Windows XP Professional SP2 computer connect to the internet ok
through Ethernet cable to my cable broadband modem. If I use the command
prompt to ping my modem or any other address it just hangs until I close it
down, I have also tried connecting the modem via USB with the same results.
Anyone got any ideas as to the cure for this problem. I also have McAfee
internet security suite installed and have run complete virus checks and
also run Adaware & Spybot S&D.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a weird situation with XP Home edition; SP2 is NOT installed:
System:
XP Home on an eMachines T2742 (2.7 GHZ; 256 Mb RAM; 40 Gb HDD)
Problem:
Boots to Welcome screen and loops back to welcome screen when any of the
UserID buttons are clicked. Ctl-Alt-Del brings up the Classic login dialog
box, but still loops back to XP Style Welcome screen when attempting to log
in from the Classic dialog. Cannot circumvent the boot sequence, nor get
past the Welcome screen to get to any desktop functions in XP.
What I Tried:
F8 out of startup sequence to safe mode - same thing
F8 out of startup sequence to command prompt mode - same thing
F8 out of startup sequence to last known good config - same thing
F8 out of startup sequence to debug mode - same thing
F8 out of startup sequence to boot logging mode - same thing
Checked the CMOS settings for odd power or video settings - all default

I have a machine that I can't ping or map. They are both XP-Pro SP3
I have checked the normal stuff, i.e. firewall on/off, File and Printer Sharing exception, File and Printer Sharing in TCP/IP, TCP/IP settings,
How can I disable incoming pings (without a firewall)? Whenever ping.exe in %systemroot%system32 is renamed a new copy is made when someone attempts to ping. Are there other files that need moving/renaming?
Laptop is running Windows XP Professional SP2. Server is tunning SBS 4.5 and
Windows NT 4.0. I have two locations with two different gateway IP
Addresses. I have connected to each server by changing the domain and IP
address. Received messsage "welcome to _____ domain". I connect to network,
see all the computers, but can not "map" my drive back to the main server in
the other location.I did turn off the windows firewall and
made sure all my WINS, etc. was correct. I can not ping the server in the
other location. I can ping the server I am currently connected to, and am
supposed to be able (can on 2000) to map a drive back to our other office.
A host computer, windows xp, plugged directly into a satellite modem (Internet) and ONE client computer.
I had to configure my IP addresses manually, but the host ends in "2" and the client in "3" at the end of the IP string.
So - from the client, I can
1) See the Internet fine
2) Ping the host fine
3) Ping the root host (1) fine
From the host I can
1) See the Internet fine
2) When I ping the client, it returns REQUEST TIMED OUT
Both computers are members of the same group.
Both seem to connect fine to the Internet at all times, no problems.
The host computer, sees ITSELF, in that, if you map a drive, and you click on Microsoft Windows Network, then the group name, you SEE the computer name.
On the client, when you click on the same group, it stalls, and you see NOTHING - neither the client NOR the host (despite being able to PING the host)
The Windows firewall is TURNED OFF on both machines.
What do I do to resolve "Request Timed Out"?
The client is attached to the network via a Belkin Wireless Adapter, which seems to work and connect PERFECTLY.
From the client, you can ping the client,(itself) and it responds.
I am looking for program which can send PING command by set intervals. It is desirable that program can ping devices in quantity simultaneously.

I can't get a full response to pinging anywhere on the 'net.
When I do a "ping www.yahoo.com" for example it will return the IP address
of Yahoo and reply TTL on the first of 4 lines, but the following 3 gets
time outs.
I can't go anywhere on the web with that machine, so any ideas of how to fix
that one?
I've turned the firewall off just in case.
I am hooked up wireless but cannot get anything done or checked in dos. Windows
help is useless. Frustrated after 8 hours
Have wireless hook up with adapter in computer with the problem. Have
windows firewall and Panda antivirus and firewall?
The system used by my nieces no longer connects to the Internet, and while troubleshooting, I find I can't even ping the system itself. I can ping the DSL modem/wireless router, and the system acquires a valid IP through DHCP, but it fails to ping its own IP. Pinging 127.0.0.1 works though. The system is connected to the modem through a CAT 5 cable, and the network says it is connected at 100Mbps. I tried uninstalling Norton Internet Security, thinking it might be an issue with that, but to no avail. The system runs Windows XP Pro, and was recently upgraded to SP2.

I cannot ping xp computers. I can ping win2k machines all day long. The xp boxes are running
sp2, but I have a policy in effect that disables the firewall. I also have a
policy in effect that renames the administrator and guest accounts. IF the
firewall is disabled is there any reason that any of these machines would
not respond to a ping request. Wouldn't be a big deal, but my print tracking
app requires it. All XP machines can communicate with the network just fine.
I can ping anything from each XP machine successfully.
