This pop up came up saying that I had little or no disc space and that I should delete programs that I rarely use. So I went in and deleted stuff that showed I hadn't used for a long time. Now I cant open up microsoft office. In fact everytime I try to do anything I get a new pop up that's titled Windows Installer, and reads "the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource thats unavailable" I tried to restore my computer to a previous date and time but I get the same thing?
In Win 98SE when I go to system properties and performance tab I can see a number free resource%.How do I get this number in Win XP and Win 2000? Does a higher figure really indicate that the computer is doing well?
I just recently reformatted my computer, using Windows XP Professional, and have been having a couple problems. As I try to install the drivers, InstallSheild Pops up and then goes to an error stating: RPC Server Unavailable I've tried researching how to fix this and I've found a thread with the exact same problematic tried going into services and starting the DCOM services. It is set to automatic, but will not start automatically. As I try to manually start, it comes up with another error saying "It was not possible to start the DCOM Server Process Launcher service in Local Computer. Error 1053: The service didn't respond to the requisition to start or control in time". After this, for some reason, I'm able to install whatever I was trying to before.
However, after I reboot my computer, I have to do this process again because the DCOM service is not started. I want to figure out how to get the DCOM service to always be on. I feel like it might be a problem with the win32 folder because when I click the properties of the DCOM service and go to the last tab, an error message comes up and says Win32: RPC Server Unavailable.
i just bought a hp pavilion desktop that apparently has the sasser worm on it as i kept getting the countdown popup. i put on avg antivirus and removed 19 different worms and virus's. i then ran ad-aware and spybot s&d and removed over 400 entries. i have researched and applied how to get rid of the sasser virus but i still get the countdown popup occasionally. i also can not get any updates from microsoft to download. all i get is an error. since it still does odd things every now and then i think the best bet is just to completely format the hard drive. i want to get rid of everything including the hidden partition hp puts on for recovery. i received all the recovery cd's that came with the system when it was originally bought. i do not have a stand alone xp home cd for it. is win xp home on those recovery disks and are they all i will need to format the hard drive?
My computer usage stays at about 100%. My aol software.exe constantly use about 80 % While some csrss.exe takes up the rest. My computer is rea slow now. I had this problem before and it went away. I can't remember what I did.
The daylight saving i try to install the manual updates and i found the microsoft web side but i cant under stand what is the "windows resource kit" is i am new to the job so.
Is there such a program? Some software programs like, video and audio converters use a lot of CPU resources. As I don't have a modern 2 core cpu this can be annoying when doing conversions and trying to watch a h264 encoded movie at the same time. It would be cool to be able to "throttle down" some programs so as to make my computer more efficient. At least until I upgrade to 4 cores.
I recently installed the windows recource kit for windows XP, 2000 and 2003. The resource kit provides a program called "Subinacl.exe". This program can be used to set permissions, edit registery items, set users, etc. Now my problem. The program works on all our windows machines (they have basically the same programs installed), except on one machine. When I try to run it there, it just hangs, it has no read or write input / output, it just stops responding. I thought about a permissions problem, but when i provide full rights to the program (cmd started as administrator), it still hangs. A security policy? checked it. All the machines have the same policy's. Actually, i don't know what the problem could be now.
I've lost usage of the language bar and, when I can make it appear, it behaves erratically. For example, the bar doesn't currently appear in the list of toolbars displayed when I right-click on the taskbar and choose Toolbars. If I go to Control Panel > Regional and Language Options > Languages tab > Details. I do see both languages currently installed: "English (United States) - US" and "French (Canada) - United States-International" -- but the Language Bar button at the bottom is greyed out.Other times, I have gotten the Language Bar to reappear in the taskbar, but with added options that I can't turn off, even if I right-click and uncheckable "Show additional Language Bar icons".I just want to get my old single "EN" / "FR" icon. Help!
I have a Windows network using SBS Server 2003 all the clients are only using drive mapping not actually logging in to the domain. I setup openVPN on one Windows PC and opened the ports on the router. When I log in to openVPN I get an error when using a Windows PC as the client. status=55 The specified network device or resource is no longer available. I have seen this error on other forums by searching but no fixes for it. My son can log in and see the network using linux, so it must be an XP problem.
I have Been fixing a donated old pc and installing a new hard drive. So need to put a new bios so it can read the 40 gig hard disk.Everything worked and boot properly except when I installed the sound card and Ethernet Card keep getting the error code 12 resource error. Thanks for oppening the topic but now my problem is not here .l'll re-type the problem .Im running win2k pro and now when i right click on a desktop icon or any other icon i get ":Failed to load resource DLL" with no explanation of what dll is missing or corrupt .Once i press 'OK' the problem goes away and everything seems to run fine other than a few exceptions that im not sure are tied .My friend says he had the same problem and a week after ignoring it his pc crashed and died.
I'm running XP Pro SP2 on my desktop at home. Home built, 4 years old, AMD Duron processor. Recently (for last couple of days), any time I try to search, my entire system hangs. I checked the Microsoft articles, and found this, which I have seen cited in other threads here but include below. On a computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP or Microsoft Windows Server 2003, the Explorer.exe process may experience an error in Rkadmin.dll and unexpectedly quit. To work around this problem, uninstall the Microsoft Windows 2000 Resource Kit. Unfortunately, I don't see the W2K Resource Kit in Add/Remove Programs, and if I try to search for the file, well...then I have to Crtl+Alt+Del to get to Task Manager to end task on the explorer window and end process on drwtsn32.exe if I only end one or the other, it still hangs.
I have this strange problem with my Dell Inspiron 930. When I open Fire Fox the CPU loads jumps to 100% and my mouse cuts out. The laptop hits temperatures of 60C +. I have done a virus using Avast Anti Virus and have found nothing. I have even made it scan before windows loads. I have done the same thing with spy bot search and destroy and I am really out of Ideas. This also effects Virtual DJ and Steam (Only in the community Tab = The one with flash). I think it might be Flash that is causing this, but I don't know how to complete remove flash from my laptop so that it can be reinstalled. Can someone please tell me how to remove and tell me if they know whats happening to my system. Computer Specs- Pentium M 2.0 (Centrino) 1GB RAM 100 GB HDD ATI X300 (128MB)

I have been getting a box up with Resource file missing when I open up my HP Compaq laptop for some time now. I don't know what was done immediately before this started. I see from an internet search that this is common, but being a beginner to technical computer stuff I don't understand a lot of the solutions.
When I boot up my xp pc the very last acion on bootup is a message box that states" Cannot Find Resource FIle". I go to Event Viewer and there are two items there:
1)The COM+ Messages service failed to start due to the following error: The system cannot find the file specified.
2)The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: SMPLSCSI
Until recently 1 month ago, this message box never appeared. What is SMPLSCSI and how can I make this messagebox go away?
When I right click on an icon instead of getting the pop-up menu with options I get an error message. The message box is labelled "cf99menu_.rsc". The error message states "Resource File Not Found". Clicking OK makes the box go away. It is annoying and adds a step to any function where a right click is involved.
When I turn on my computer I get three pop-up messages. One just has a box that says TOPIC! another says delivery manager has encountered a problem and needs to close, and another says resource DLL is missing... Please reinstall application for McAfee Virus scan. I have reinstalled the Virus scan several times but the message never goes away. I don't even know what TOPIC! is and what is a delivery manager?
I know the little ctrl/alt/del trick to put the resouce meter in the system tray.It stays there until you turnoff/reboot. Then it's gone.Is there a way to keep it there? Some type of utility that will sit in the start menu?
Is it possible to tweak xp to allow only a certain amount of bandwidth to be allowed by an individual pc? we have online gamers and p2p users on our home lan that seem to use it all, while effecting other users from time to time. It would be nice to assign each user a specific amount of bandwidth.
Sometimes my computer is running kinda slow, so I look on Task Manager and Internet Explorer is using between 60,000 and 100,000 K. I've already run SuperAntispyware and only cookies came up.
I just purchased a new computer with XP Professional SP2. When I go to the Windows Security Center (start/control panel/Window Security Center) I get the following message under Security Essentials: "The Security Center is currently unavailable because the 'Security Center' service has not been started or was stopped. Please close this window, restart the computer (or start the Security Center service) and the open the Security Center again." I have my Windows Firewall is ON along with Norton anti-virus and the Norton firewall.
I was trying to install the latest ATI Drivers when the Installer gave me an RPC Server Unavailable error. Both RPC Services ARE running. I dont know what else I can do.
I Accidentally Clicked A Folder That Started Installing Mcafee Virus Scan. I Realized That I Already Have Mcafee Virus Scan Included And Installed As Part Of Aol Safety And Security System. I Couldn't Cancel This Unintended Beginning Of The Installation So I Shut Down My Computer. Now, Every Time I Boot I Get A Prompt Sound And A Small Window Entitled Macafee Virus Scan Which Says Missing Resourse Dll, Please Re Install. My Uniblue Registry Booster Couldn't Eliminate.
I was reading about some of the built in diagnostic tools in winxp and found out about msinfo32; I ran the program and found that some devices are either sharing resources or are conflicting with each other.
Is there any way to tell whether or not it is ok for these devices to be sharing resources
