View 8 Replies View Relatedincreasingly I am coming across more and more files that are over the 700 MB limit when burning data to CD-Rs (e.g. the file might be 950MB) Instead of writing them to DVD - is zipping them and then burning to cd ok? I do not want to go back to the file in a couple of months to learn that the file got corrupted during zipping or failed to decompress properly. So your experiences / opinions of zipping files and then burning them to CD-R?

The registry on one of my computers is corrupt and if I try to copy the files from the WindowsRepair folder using the windows system repair tool, I'm told the files cannot be found. One possible solution I thought of is using the registry files from my other computer running Windows XP. I don't even know if this is possible, but if it is, how can I transfer the files. I would put them on a CD but the CD drive won't open when the system repair tool is running, and they're too big to fit on a floppy disk, even one at a time (the system and software files are both over 2mb.)
View 4 Replies View RelatedI made the stupid mistake of running the rollup 2 application for MCE 2005. Of course an error appeared and the installation was not successful. As a result the setup program decided to restart my PC and use system restore to restore the computer back to the period prior to that accidental installation. Now everytime I either logon to a user account or logoff back to the welcome screen I get the following message:
Windows - Registry Recovery
One of the files containing the system's Registry data had to be recovered by use of a log or alternative copy. The recovery was successful. The only button I can click is OK - so I do so and I carry on. Under my Dad's and sister's account this message doesn't appear so often but they keep screaming at me when it does, accusing me of "tampering" with the registry when I have done no such thing...............

Now, everytime the computer starts up I get an error saying that msisadrv.sys is missing or corrupt. What can I do?

Again, as per microsoft support kb 831430 Method 1 tried Run/msconfig/regsvr32 jscript.dll, etc doesn't work. Registering fails. Error 0x800004005. Even booted in safe mode so I could be THE administrator (as opposed to the computer administrator my user profile is already) and I got the same message. Tried the second way to register this with msconfig and expanding a file. I had tried this second part of Method 1 before and I think it might have worked, but when it came to registering the dll's, same error 0x800004005. So that failed.
View 14 Replies View RelatedAm Running Windows XP home with SP2 on a P4 machine, everything running smoothly except that I tried to uninstall a program through the control panel-add/remove route and even though most programs are listed there, only a few of them like 5 out of 40 odd have the change/remove button when the particular program name is clicked. It just shows size, used frequency and last used on, I cannot uninstall those programs incl. the officeXP package. I am absolutely sure all this was possible few days back and tried to get my system back to a 7-8 day restore point but this does not help as well
In registry key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionUninstall "
only 5-6 programs are listed and the change/remove button only shows up for these. Where did the rest go?..as all these other programs are running on my computer. What could be the problem and how can I resolve it without re-formatting
Since installing Office 2007 (over Office 2000) recently, I often encounter delays in opening Office 2000 Word files. Furthermore, I am sometimes unable to open them unless I move them to a 'trusted' directory. So I defined a trusted directory, moved the file(s) there, and can work. But when I just now tried to open an Office 2000 Word file, I received a different error message, namely ' You are attempting to open a file type that is blocked by your registry policy setting.', with instructions to disable the restriction via regedit. When I looked at the registry data, there was no 'Office' tab whatsoever under the Microsoft tab beneath Policies. So I'm unable to edit the registry to 'unblock' access to such legacy files.

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy moms computer had a big red X next to the C: Drive, so I ran AVG and it wouldnt work it just froze up. So I did some poking around online and found Vundo. So I ran it and it found a bunch of stuff and then deleted it all. Then when I restarted the PC I get the "NTLDR is missing, Press ctrl-alt-delete to restart" error message. So I found out how to fix that with a boot disk. Here comes problem number one. the recovery disk is HP Windows XP sp2. Im not sure if the OS is the same because the disk is from my laptop. (both are HP windows xp) So I put in the disk, hit ctrl-alt-del and press enter to boot from disk. Everything looks normal, it says windows setup, and is loading files at the bottom of the screen. At the welcome screen I press R and am taken to the recovery console. This is where it gets weird.

Booting up a Dell Dimension 9100. It has been working fine for 2 weeks since reformatting. Today, I tried to boot the machine and it gave the ntldr missing error message but it was in french. I put the install disk in and ran the fixboot and chkdsk utilities from command line. It booted up and ran fine. I shut down and tried to reboot again and the error message appeared again. Corrupt bios? I plan on updating the bios tomorrow and trying that. I have never seen a bios error message appear in French. Has anyone ever seen this before?
