Apparently there is a maximum length of file 'title' that the Recycle Bin will accommodate. If it is exceded, a file can not be deleted (sent to the Recycle Bin). I have run into this problem trying to remove out-of-date backup files from my XHDD. What is this limit?

View 11 Replies View RelatedWhen I open Windows file explorer, for my .mp3 files, I cannot get track title, number, artist, etc. It only displays file name, size, type, date created and date modified. When I right click on the file and select properties, summary, advanced, the information is not there either. This only happened in the last month or so because before I did get this missing track info for the same files on the same disk using the same Windows file explorer.

I am trying to delete mp3 from my c drive because I have an external disk where I have my music library. I can delete them one at a time without getting the error message but not a bunch of them. Some of them I have been able to delete in a bunch.

I am not sure how far the direcroty goes, but I have counted to at least 26 directories deep. I cannot delete the parent folder in either explorer, or from the prompt. At the prompt I have tried RD foldername and it says, "Folder not empty". Tried del foldername*.* with no error and still cannot delete it.

The files and folders that I am addressing are: C:WINDOWSTEMP*.* *.OLD *.CHK *.BAK ~*.* _*.* and MSCREATE.DIRI have managed to clean all but one, which is _*.* When I run the search, I get the result of 144 files. I click on edit, select all, then file, delete. I receive the following error "cannot delete file: Cannot read the source file or disk" (please view screen shot). When I right click, I have no delete option, just "open containing folder, copy, and extract. (please view screen shot). I have run AdAware, Spybot, Ewido, and Avg Free. I also have CCleaner, Easy Clean which I have run. I have also used "Move On Boot" by putting the file path in the MOB window and try to have MOB delete the file. MOB says the file will be removed on the next boot.

I cant rename the file,the context menu for the file is different than any other file, removing the Rename, Delete, and everything Useful... I cant open the File, btw was supposed to be a picture... Ive tried that technique you can use to rename a file, by clicking once on it selecting it, then clicking on the filename again, but beeps as if it was invalid. I have also tried safe mode, which also failed...
I cant deleted this file on my desktop. It is an empty file(0 bytes), I tried renaming it and tried deleting it in safe mode. still I get " Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk." I did a search for the file and nothing shows! not even the actual file that is on my desktop. So used "registry cleaner" to see if it will delete it...nope. I tried safe mode again and the same problem. I ran AVG, Norton, Escan, Hijack, all came clean. nothing wrong.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've seen another post somewhere and someone else had this problem, but I haven't found a solution. We're using WXP Pro, SP2. After doing a repair install (the other person just had it after using Windows Update), at logon, after entering the correct, AND VALID, password either for a user Or the Administrator, Windows Logon displays the following Logon Message in a box: "!The system cannot log you on due to the following error: "The program issued a command but the command length is incorrect. "Please try again or consult your administrator."
No matter how many times logon is attempted, or with what account, the message continues to be issued. Thus, NO ONE can logon to the GUI. The Recovery Console can be used to logon as Administrator, but no password is requested even though there is one in place. I've searched the MSKB but didn't find any reference. Implementing "Last known good configuration" does not fix the problem.
When changing the title to the cmd prompt and after closing and then reopening it reverts back to the old title ? My path in the Cmd Prompt window > C:> title

problems.
1. In a folder window (ie My Computer or Explorer) the title bar only shows
the first letter of the path. If the path is C: emp the "C" is displayed if
D:archive then "D" is displayed. I have tried going to "Tools--->folder
option ---->view and select "show full path in title bar" and checking and
unchecking. I have tried different fonts and different size fonts.But still
the title bar is unchanged.

I'm trying to customize my color scheme and all that because I'm bored, but for some reason I can't change the color of the active window's title bar. I'm in Display Properties, Appearance, Advanced, but for the life of me I can't find the selection to change what I want.
I've messed around with Active Title Bar, Active Window Border, Application Background, Inactive Title Bar, Window, and others but none of them will change the color of my active window's title bar (for example, the Firefox title bar that says "Tech Support Guy Forums - Post New Thread - Mozilla Firefox" is all blue bcause I'm on the "Default (blue)" Color scheme right now). I don't see a way to deactivate the default color scheme, I can only change it to olive green or silver, or customize through the advanced button, which doesn't seem to work.
Until recently Windows Explorer has shown the title of a CD inserted into either the CD Rewriter or the DVD reader drive on my PC. Since about two weeks ago, XP does not react at all to the insertion of a disk until I click on the relevant drive letter in the left pane of Explorer. It then shows the content of the disk but still does not show the disk title info. In addition Autorun no longer operates even though it is enabled.

Uncheck it and re-lock the taskbar and the space-hogging and otherwise unpleasant looking titles are gone.

I've got a video file that just won't go away.In other words, when you right click a file there is usually an option called delete.On this particular file I get a shorter menu of options and non of them are Delete.I also tried to move it to a New Folder figuring I could put it into that and then delete the folder, and it won't go into the folder.

Unimportant background info: I'm reinstalling Steam onto my F: drive since my C: drive is running out of space for it.I made the backup (all but the few files I'm having trouble deleting) & uninstalled Steam already.Important background info:So now I have just a few pesky files hanging around in my C:Program FilesSteamSteamApps(email)(multiple sources from here) folder. All of them have the same CRC thing going on. "Cannot delete (Filename): Data error (cyclic redundancy check)"So thinking I might be able to get around it by deleting the files from the command prompt I go start up the little psuedo-DOS window. I don't think it would have a problem deleting the directory or files could I find them, but there's a problem.
