Is There An Advantage In Having An AMD 64 Processor?

I'm really confused about the whole 32/64 bit issue. I use Gibbs CAM at work and need to get a new desktop system built for it. When I call Gibbs they recommend building the new system based on the AMD Athlon 64 3200+ processor and running the Windows XP Professional OS. They maintain this configuration really works great and operates better than an Intel 32 bit system. They said ABSOLUTELY DO NOT USE THE WINDOWS XP PRO 64 BIT VERSION as it does not run well and I will have compatibility issues with Gibbs and possibly other software even if I am operating in legacy mode. Gibbs, by the way, does not support 64 bit.
I have AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core 4000+ Processor and i want to know, is my processor better for x32 or x64 version fo Windows XP? somethere i read that x64 windows is for x64 processor and just in that windows version x64 processor has maximum perfomance. I have been using 32 bit version of xp, but i want to know would my processor be faster in 64 bit version of Windows XP?
I've always kept my pc up-to-date with all MS patches, and never had any problems.All seemed well after the SP3 installation, until recently.After logging in as 'Administrator', I was asked to 'active windows in the next few days'. I had no problems in doing so (as I'm running a legitimate version of Win XP Pro). I then got a window that said 'Windows is already activated'.All seemed well, then I went to logon last night, again I was asked to 'active windows', when I clicked OK, the system logged me off.My one solution was to boot to safe mode and remove sp3.When I rebooted the pc, all seems well.My question what caused this, and how do I prevent it from happening again? I want to re-install SP3, but am afraid that eventually windows will not let me in at all.
Using old AMD 350 MHz back-up machine lately, out of necessity. Several diagnostic apps, such as Belarc Adviser are reporting it to be 175 MHz. The boot menu is saying 350. Why is this happening, and what can I do to get my 350 MHz. chip to be seen for what it actually is? It's bad enough that I'm forced to use the old boy right now, but I'd be a lot happier if the diagnostic apps were seeing it for what it is.
I replaced a cd writer for a friend and all went well. Of course I had to power down the machine & in so doing so there were 5 MS updates for SP2 that ran. The updates installed sucessfuly & then I was prompted to install MS Windows Genuine Advantage; no problem. However following the install of Windows Genuine Advantage a notification flag appeared stating that he does not have a legit copy of windows.
The system is an HP 520W purchased new a few years ago and came with XP installed. The system is up to date running XP SP2 with all updates. Windows Genuine Advantage version 1,5,708,0 was the last update installed.
I have a new computer that i just built. It has a Biostar I945PA7 motherboard, with an intel Pentium D (dual-Core) 3.4 GHz 800 Mhz FSB 2x2 MB L2 Cach Processor, a CoolMax Cr-550W ATX2.01 Power Supply, a 80 GB 7200RPM Western Digital Hard Drive, an eVGA2n25 nVidia GF 6200TC 256MB(512MB) video card, and a sony 18x18 Dual Double DVD-RW, and i have 2GB Corsair DDR2. I am running windows xp professinal and have not installed any other programs or drivers.First, I had a very difficult time installing windows xp professional. During installation, it has turned off unexpectedly and gave no error messages. Then once I was able to get windows xp installed, it installed it with a password. I then re-formated the hard drive and re-installed windows and finally it installed properly. is there any advantage of converting my filesystem from FAT to NTFS?will it cause and problem to the existing data on my drive if i convert to NTFS from FAT?or if i convert back to FAT from NTFS if i dont like it??i want to convert drive e: to NTFS.but since i use both ME and Xp.once i convert to NTFS..i wont be able to access drive e: thru Win ME rite?
So my laptop crashed the other day, and it couldn't get past the windows loading screen, so i was able to back everything up to my ext. hard drive through the command prompt and system restore my computer. Ive had to restore it once before and everything went smoothly... but this time.. when it would be reinstalling the original software, it would give me error messages that files could not be found. Once I got through all of that, and got my desktop screen back and everything appears to be working again... my computer acts like somethign is wrong with the processor. The main thing is that my mouse gets hung up.. like the computer is thinking too hard. Ive watched the system processor.. and the system idle... keeps going up to 99%. I think something is wrong with my computer... can anyone help me figure it out? Is it a hardware problem? Thanks!
Windows XP hangs at windows is shutting down message - when shutdown is done.The power & HDD LEDs go off.Processor fan is still ON and remains ON.I need to switch off the main power supply.When I switch On the main power supply, it will remain in a shutdown state where no LEDs are working, processor fan is OFF.Configuration: Processor: Core2Duo 2.4 GHz Motherboard: Mercury 945 GCM (Intel chipset 945 based).RAM : 2 X 1GB = 2GB Transcend Elpida 667MHz Operating System: Windows XP in C Drive, Windows Vista in D Drive. I'm gonna get an Intel Core2Quad Q6600, and will use DDR2 ram, and want to use Win xp - do I need to install Windows XP 64 bit?? or can I continue to use my old 32 bit?? I heard win xp can't "see" more than 3 GB RAM - does this apply also to win xp 64bit???
This computer is a Dell desktop, win xp with a fast processor. It's glitching up a was hoping I could get some advice. It's my bosses computer and he is having alot of problims with it and its starting up.
My pc has a legal copy of XP. it has one of those copies that comes with the pc when you buy it.when i go to microsoft update, it won't let me download any updates untill i install the WGA.I did install it and now it's telling me that my copy is illegal I contacted MS and they said that i have to send them some proof of it being legal (installation cd's) but since it came with the pc, it doesn't have the cd's now they're telling me to send them my pc and that they won't be paying shipping i searched google to find some fix for it and tried some things. i somehow got it uninstalled, but it still won't let me download updates untill i install this tool.
I upgraded from SP1 to SP2.Then I went to Microsoft's update site. All installed fine except the genuine advantage notification tool. I have been on the phone with Micro$oft for almost an hour, speaking with people in Phillipines and India.
This is third time that Windows genuine advantage notification (KB905474) is installed on my PC in the last six weeks or so. Is this happening to others as well?Also, when I check in "Add/Delete" I only see the last one being installed... the entry for the two previous ones are deleted.
I have already installed Windows "Genuine Advantage" Notification on my XP Pro machine. The last three days Windows Update has been asking me to install this "advantage" again. How can I get the gold shield off my taskbar?
Can anyone tell me please how to get Windows Updates without installing WGA.My copy of Windows XP has already been validated and from what I read elsewhere it is no advantage to having WGA installed again and again as apparently this is Microsoft's way of keeping tabs on users activity. I have auto update completely turned off as I prefer to be in control of downloads
I didn't even think of it when I ordered my new system. I currently have the same copy of windows xp home I've had all along. Do I need to get 64 bit XP professional for my Athlon 64 X2 dual core processor to work? I'd hate to have to have to buy a retail copy

I'll make it short.I bought an SSD for FASTER booting times and it's just AMAZING. Though i'm still not satisfied with some things. I switched to winXP due to some issues in windows 7. Here when i restart the PC, when the Windows Splash screen appears, the PC remains IDLE for like 5 seconds. I mean its IDLE, No processor usage/ No HD usage/ and NO Service loading. It's just annoying me. And right after 4 seconds the SSD picks up and the desktop comes up INSTANTLY.
I am about to upgrade from 2000 Pro to XP Pro. I use XP exclusively at my office.I have run the Windows XP Pro Upgrade Advisor and it found no problems but, I realized that I can't even find my processor speed. It took me forever just to locate my hardware configuration.
how I locate my processor speed and the size of my RAM?
I updated my bios with Asus' bios update utility, at first everything worked fine. Including the required reboot. The next day when tried I booted up I got an error message saying the processor is set at the wrong speed. No matter what speed I set the message reappeared.
I just downloaded the latest version of Nikons Capture NX photo program so now I need a much faster PC.Nikon program recommends "Pentinum 4 2Ghz or better" What would be better?Dual processor? if so, which one? Video card? RAM 1GB is too slow....Maybe 2GB? 3GB? 4GB What else should I look for?
Very often, explorer.exe takes 90-99 percent of processor time, and renders my system usless. I then have to end the explorer process and then start it back up as new task, using windows task manager. I am using WinXP home sp2.
i am having issues on a computer where i check the processes tab it says that the system idle process is using anywhere from about 80-99 percent of the processor.
this is on a Hp Pavilion 762 2.2 gig processor 512 megs of ram
The next time that you run a scan at the Windows Updates/Microsoft Updates site, you should be prompted to install the new update to the WGAVT. Once you do, it'll replace version 1.3.0254.0 with version 1.5.512.0.
notification KB905474 hi, i keep getting a notification that i need to download this....when i try to download it my computer blocks it and now i can't get any updates from microsoft. what is going on? and what can/should i do?
