Installation Canceled Due To Daylight Savings Time Settings?
Mar 7, 2007
Ok, I've got 5 XP pro sp2 machines, and 1 Server 2003 Small Business Edition. I downloaded update # 931836 which Microsofts web site said would correct the issue. I burned the file to a disc and proceeded to each station to run the update. On the XP pro sp2 machines windows told me the update I was trying to install was canceled because the current time zone update on the machine was more current. On the Small Business Server I get an error that reads,"Update.ine file is invalid and the installation quits. Is it possible that the critical updates that my machines automatically install have already taken care of this issue and I just need to let it go?

Since Windows has been released several time zone changes have occurred, and beginning this coming year the Daylight Saving Time period will change in the US. Specifically, DST will start three weeks earlier (2:00 A.M. on the second Sunday in March) and will end one week later (2:00 A.M. on the first Sunday in November). Thus, Microsoft is releasing an update to address changes that have or will take place in several countries. The update will be delivered automatically to Windows XP SP2 users starting December 12th (or can be downloaded now by clicking here) and will be included in Windows Vista.

With the date of Daylights saving time changing will this affect how the computer clocks spring foward to daylight savings time? Will I need to do it manually or will it be automatic, like in the past?

If I'm not mistaken, daylight savings time beginning and ending times will be changed this year. Am I to assume that we only have to make changes on Servers of which the clients get their time from? Outside of that, other systems that aren't server dependent such as UPS machines and such, will need the time to be changed manually?Just curious if anyone has already started to work on this.

Twice a year, XP displays a dialog box telling the user that it's changed the time due to daylight savings time.I want to keep this dialog box from popping up, but I can't find a way to do it.I understand that I could turn off the automatic adjustment, and thus have the dialog not appear. But I want the adjustment just not the dialog box.So does anyone know of a mystery registry key or function to help me? I've been throught technet & msdn etc.

Since Congress passed the New Daylight Savings Time effective this year, computers without Windows XP or updates or without Vista will not reset its time correctly this year (or future years)--it will be 3 weeks late in the spring since they are starting DST three weeks early and one week early in the fall. So for Windows 2000 and NT

i was going to wait and see what they did at work about the DST problem and then apply a similar concept at home. They supposedly patched XP (at work)for the new dates for DST but then they went and changed all the times in my Outlook Calendar,at least in the two extended date intervals ,by 1 hour. I really don't understand the last part.If I have an appointment at 10:00, it still is at 10:00 DST not withstanding, at least I think so Shouldn't Outlook match the appt time with whatever time the system clock is displaying and work accordingly?

I had the box checked on the computers on my network to automatically go to daylight savings time. Because of a particular application, I decided that I didn't want to automatically switch back to standard time at 2:00 AM. I would do it manually later. So I unchecked the box on the server and all of my PCs on the 28th. When I got ready to make the manual change around 5:00 AM on the 29th, they were all already on standard time. Does this mean that the box only affects going to daylight savings time and that it will always revert to standard time?

I have Windows XP Pro, SP2.I was wondering what affect the new daylight savings time start/stop dates will have on Windows and if there is something I should do. Has this been addressed by an update? Somebody please tell me if this has already been addressed and if not is there anything I should do?

The DST checkbox seems to be missing from my Time Zone tab. On the Date & Time tab, the time zone shows as U.S. Mountain Standard Time. I recently upgraded from XP-Home (SP2) to XP-Pro (SP2). This issue did not exist in my Home version. Any ideas on how I go about "fixing" this--other than manually changing the time?

We have about 100 computers on our network. I had installed late last year the "How to configure daylight saving time for Microsoft Windows operating systems" on our domain. This morning, about 90% of the systems were updated correctly. I'm not sure what the issue is that not all systems updated with the correct time. I have gone and rebooted a couple of the systems and had the user log back in, but they still have the wrong time. I know I can go in manually as an admin and update the time, but I was hoping there was a more efficient way.

My system clock on my XP system will not stay advanced 1 hour for Daylight Savings Time. After about 1 hour it will jump back to one hour earlier. It should have changed automatically for DST since I had the box checked, but it didn't, so I thought it odd I had to change it manually for DST. But it won't stay changed, it keeps jumping back an hour after about an hour's time.

I'm trying to do a full disk check in my XP machine, so I went to the "Local Disk (C Properties"->Tools-"Error-checking" and clicked "Check Now." Then I marked "Automatically fix file system errors" and "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors," and then it gives me the message that it has to wait until the next restart before it'll work.

I've recently developed this problem with a slow startup time. Everything else loads at a decent speed, but when it gets to 'Loading Your Personal Settings' it hangs for 2 - 3 minutes.
I'm willing to post more details if necessary.

Running win 2000 pro SP4. every time i reboot, certain program settings are lost. for example, my zonealarm settings are lost, and all program net access authorizations have to be re-authorized, when the programs attempt to connect to the net. It will not remember the "always use this answer" option, that you can check in zonealarm to keep from having to continue to re-authorize the program each time it is run. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

So, my computer was once owned by a corporation, and there are various policies in place that lead to error messages and a lack of access (even though I am an administrator).
1) I can't access the Firewall or Windows Update features
2) Sometimes when I'm trying to install software, I get a message that says "This operation was cancelled due to restrictions in place on your computer. Please contact a network administrator" or something like that.
I have access to regedit (after a bit of work) and have been able to win back some of my privileges. However, I can't seem to find the right restrictions to apply to the above issues. editing policies in gpedit does not do anything! None of the policies take effect. Does anyone know how to remedy this?

I have Windows XP and i have dialup connection. We were using ISP Monsters internet service and that's where the problem started. I can connect to the internet and surf for a while and i disconnect it. But when i go back later to get on it, it will connect and everything but when i search for something, it will first display this: No Page To Display on the bar Action Canceled internet explorer was unable to link to the web page you requested. The page might be unavailable. Then it says to refresh the page or try again later, etc. When i hit the refresh button it displays this error message: The page cannot be displayed. The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.

I've formatted my hdd using hirens boot cd, partition magic. xp install starts, goes through "setup is loading files", gets to "setup is starting windows" and stops, all activity stops (hdd, cd), full silence. if i'm not mistaking, eula comes next and F8 to continue. i left it for 8 hours and waited, no result. same thing happens with vista - goes through loading files, i get a screen with that green line going from left to right and goes on and on and on forever.I've tried with 2 different xp cds, one xp64 cd and vista dvd. nothing.linux ubuntu installs without any problems.i've tried erasing MBR with acronis disk director suite (hirens boot cd) and with DOS line "fdisk.exe /mbr", but every time my installation freezes.

I found images in Windows Picture and Fax viewer that I want to delete. I can delete them one-by-one, but that takes time. I went to Disk Cleanup up and deleted all Temp and Temp internet files, but the images are still there. I checked Properties of the images for the file names, went to Win Explorer, but only found C:Documents and Settingsuser, there was no subfolder for Local Settings and, obviously nothing after that. I did a Search in Explorer, including hidden files and folders, for the file names and the searches resulted in nothing. I am back to deleting one-by-one, but my concern is, Where did everything from Local Settings on go to. BTW, I also run Skybot, Adaware and Norton virus weekly

When I started up it says Win.ini corrupt. Then it starts up as a new user losing track of Favorites and Start Menu and Desktop Icons, Display and Folder attributes. Under
Documents and Settings it has added Dave.U5R2D5 in addition to Dave which still has all the information. I tried switching the 2 Filenames to get back to what it used to be but gave an error message and didn't do it and started another new file.Is there some way to use the old Dave file?

I'm having a major problem with XP Home Edition. When I start my computer, I get the Loading Settings screen, which automatically switches to the Saving Settings screen and then goes back to Loading Settings, Saving Settings, etc, etc, (the "Windows XP Startup" and "Windows XP Shutdown" sounds repeat themselves one right after the other). By the way, I have the XP tweak that skips the Welcome and log on screens at startup since I'm the only person that uses the computer. I've tried Debugging, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Restore To Last Working Settings and a few others, but nothing is working. I ran Spybot just before shutting down the computer the last time it worked and got the "Congratulations! Your system contains no spyware" message. When I restarted the computer, I started having this problem. I also have Norton Anti Virus 2004 and did a Live Update (manually) a few hours before this started happening.

I've lately had some problems with my win-xp (home) following installation/ un-installation of daemon tools that corrupted some registry files. After an unsuccesfull repair-instalation of xp, i re-installed xp onto the secondary partition of my hard drive (d:, the original instalation being on c. I was intending to format the c: drive, then instal a copy of xp-pro i have onto it
finally moving the files i want to keep back from the d: drive onto the c: drive. The problem i'm now having is on formatting i recieve the error message 'system partition is not allowed to be formatted', as it is the primary partition. Can i go about formatting this drive in partitions and proceed with the re-install without having to remove the files i have on the d: drive? How might i go about this?
