i have a problem with i assume windows xp when i switched on all the writing has disapeared on my files in my files even on explorer but these type of open windows are ok

i made some mp3 files from some of my own cd's i have tehn changed the file names form track 01, track 02 and so on the the artist name and correct song title but when i look in windows explorer on the propeties/ summary page they all have the original track number and it will not change.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been able to write text files to my CD-RW until recently which may be after I received and automatic update from XP. I am using the MS CD Writer, I receive the error "There is no disc in the drive" when selecting properties is shows that the Discs have no free space, these are all brand new out of the package discs. I had this problem previously immediately after I upgraded to XP SP2, MS provided an executable that I ran and corrected the problem.

drive and not other partitions.

when I started it and logged on the computer all my files were missing and some of the programs had dissappeared. I checked and made sure I was logged onto my account and not the guest one. I restarted the computer hoping that everything would just be normal again but instead after watching a black screen for 5 minutes got this message:"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:<Windows root>system32hal.dll Please re-install a copy of the above file."

They weren't deleted, since they are still viewable via cmd (attrib or dir/a). So I went to 'Folder Options', and saw that 'Show All...' was still enabled.I tried to 'Hide All...' and then 'Show All...' again, but then I saw that after setting it to Hide All and re-entering Folder Options, that 'Show All' was stuck on enabled. Restarting didn't solve either problems.Scanned my PC with Registry Mechanic, Ad-Aware, Spybot - S&D, and NOD32. still nothing.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI am running Windows 2000 pro on an old Compaq. Norton was up-to-date just before problem started: Before Xmas a windows auto update came through. I shut down before it had completed. When I turned on next morning, a sort of error message came up - "would I like to log on in any case", sort of thing - and I stupidly pressed OK. Next thing, everything on the D drive was fine, but on the C drive all my files had disappeared. Icons up as uusal, but most of them did nothing when you pressed them. I can access the internet, but no way can I get into Outlook Express. Event log only shows one error which is OMCI failed to load.
Spoke to Norton to try a remote scan, but the PC would not let me lower the security settings to allow this - just kept bouncing back to medium security level. Gave the PC to a local "Specialist" who acheived zero. Im sending this on my old PC. I really do need my old files back if possible., rather than just buying a new PC! Ideas please (tailored for a compete non-techie)!! It occured that I could create a system restore point (perhaps on an external hard drive) and then start playing in the registry, but am a complete PC moron so am rather (very, actually) nervous about that.
I have a hp pavilion model having windows XP home. Since few days I have problem while initial start up. I get the message PXE-E53 No Boot file name found followed by error message - No operating sysyem found.If I switch on and off several times the notebook starts normally with Windows XP. After it is on there is no problem afterwards. But I have this problem always when the notebook is switched off for some hours.

The file transfer proceeded, however, after a couple of minutes a message appeared saying it couldn't move the folder as it was currently being used by another program. I closed notepad which was the program involved. I then went to the partition where the folder was originally kept but the folder was not present. I went to partition where I had attempted to move the folder and found the folder but it was completely empty. Somewhere on my drives is 1.3 gig of infornmation in about six files,

So, after installing Windows Vista as a "dual boot" operating system, I switched the DVD drives back so the Pioneer DVR-106D = MASTER and the Pioneer 116 = SLAVE. Now I have a write problem to the Pioneer DVR-106D drive. When I attempt to either copy a DVD or just burn a data disk, I get an "INTERNAL TARGET FAILURE" error message. Happens every time now.As my system is already set up as a "Dual Boot" operating system with Windows XP & Vista, I cannot format my "C" drive and reinstall Windows XP to fix this problem.QUESTION: Does anyone know how to correct this problem without formatting and reinstalling Windows xp?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI use COMPUPIC imaging software which allows me to create a slide show where I can change the order of the individual JPEG files in a directory. I can then copy these files into a new directory from within COMPUPIC and it retains the new ordering, not the original alphabetic ordering. So far everything is great. However when I then try to copy these files to a CD they are reordered alphabeticaly. I'm using Windows XP and Roxia CD Creator 5 Basic. This is a problem since I would like to use the reordered file on my CD player to create a slide show in the order I specified in my Compupic imaging software.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just recently ran in to a problem with the CD wizardof Windows XP.When I try to burn data on to a CD it keeps telling me to insert a disk into the drive, even though there is a disk in the machine.I have used other programs such as Musicmatch and HP's program called ecordnow and all work just fine.
I have tried to uninstall and then reinstall the drive but to no avail.

View 2 Replies View Relatedmy PC has 2 disks it was setup with a boot manager on disk1 disk1 has linux. disk2 is my Win XP disk. my question is can I safely write a boot block on disk2 and not loose data like the XP CD warns you about? I'm not using Linux on disk1 anymore, but I need the boot manager to boot XP on disk2. so the question is how safe is it to use the XP CD and fix/create a boot record on disk2? Are there any issues? I really don't want to restore because of the software is already working..
