I was wondering if someone could direct me to some very good webpages where you can learn to use Regedit. I know it is an advanced system tool and that I can render the OS useless if I tamper with it, but I really want to learn how to use it properly.
my IE home page was set by some other internet web site and unable to change it back (what a company)!! when I try to run the Regedit.exe, I got the error message "Registry Editing has been disabled by your administrator" I am using windows xp home, and my user name is definatelly the administrator.

When i type in the Start, Run the command "Regedit" "cmd" or "SFC/SCANNOW", i am getting on a desktop a little window that popup saying "REGEDIT IS NOT A VALID WIN32 APPLICATION", THE SAME THING if i try for CMD, OR SFC/SCANNOW , i searched microsoft website, and i did not find a solution for this , can you help by indicating the solution or a link that takes me to fix this
Everytime I try to run msconfig or registry editor, it pops up for a second and then closes immediately. They open, but close immediately so i get about a 1/2 second look.I restored my system to before this problem started -I'm running Windows XP Pro.
The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. It worked fine up until recently but now it doesn't work anymore.
I fix missing task manager and regedit but i dont have boot.ini file when I started my computer but I fonud it any tutorials about modifying boot.ini file and I put code. in system startup boot loader timeout=30default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk ,i still missing stupid ini.file.
trying to run regedit from run. a black dos screen pops up and a message comes up that says "autoexec.nt missing" when i ran it again the black screen came up, went away and then nothing happened. i'm using xp
In a attempt to lock out my users from certain software....I made some lock down request using REGEDIT and now I can't use anything. I have no RUN box....I can't even open up Computer management. How do I get back into REGEDIT with no RUN box
Another day, a different computer, new baffler: A Dell Inspiron 1100 that I'm working on will not let me run the registry editor. I've tried in safe mode only to get the message "The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction. CS:00cf IP:0656 OP:fe ad 06 d9 02" and I get the choices of Ignore and Close. Ignore doesn't ignore, and so I can only close. I've run AVG which found nothing. Squat. CCleaner had a lot to do but didn't fix the problem. Wanted to run Spybot but the first thing it does it download updates and this notebook won't see the network... everyday truly is a new challenge.
When I try to execute regedit.exe from Start->Run the only thing that happens is the DOS prompt command box flashes on my screen for a second and then nothing. Hte registry editor does not open. The only way I can access the reg editor is to click on the regedit.exe file directly in my system.I am new to XP but I swear I was able to execute the reg editor from the run line before, jus tlike in WIN98 and 95.
I uses command line > regedit /s myhome.reg where the file myhome.reg is: myhome.reg Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USEREnvironment] "HOME"="G:\Recherche_ST\Charles\textes\" then I open a cmd.exe shell and try: > echo HOME it seems that the environment variable is not set.BUT if I go to the env var panel of the advanced / system dialog, I see that the HOME env var is set. If I press OK in this panel, then it is available in a cmd.exe shell.
User acct has admin priviledges in a Win XP system. When trying to run regedit in a Run window I get the following error message:"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."I get the same message when trying to run msconfig.
in IE, click on favorites and right click on links, propreties, check readonly and hidden.it will never show again in your favorite list Note: Alternatively you can use tweakui (by Allan, forum admin)
I'm trying to run Regedit. I type REGEDIT and I get an error message saying "Regedit is not a valid Win32 application"It runs msconfig and sfc /scannow but not regedit. It did before. The only thing I have done differently is install more ram today.
Well today I suddenly started having problems and you seem to know what your talking about so I thought I'd ask you.I ran a Trend Micro PC-Cillin Scan and it found the worm, WORM_MUGLY.I which I am working on removing. The problem is that part of removing that requires you to open your task manager and view processes which I am not allowed to do. I tried to run regedit but it opened up to an ms dos window which in the title bar said regedit.com. I ran registry cleaner, ad aware, and spybot search and destroy but to no avail.
some hours ago, I tried to run regedit as usual by using "Start | Run", but it said:regedit.exe - Unable To Locate ComponentThis application has failed to start because clb.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix the problem. I checked my running processes as well as restarted the PC. clb.dll was located at SysWOW64 (being a 32-bit dll, obviously) but not at System32 (where only 64-bit-files are stored), copying it to System32 didn't change anything. After a while of searching the inet in vain I realized I hadn't tried to start regedit.exe or regedt32.exe in SysWOW64 (but regedt32.exe in System32, which gives the error), and surprisingly, it worked. Still the problem remains: I can't start it using "Run" anymore (which worked since 18.05.2005), and I didn't change anything big but uninstalled WindowBlinds (a windows skinning software which worked quite well for many months). Could WindowBlinds be the reason, and if so, how? Moreover, will I experience further problems?(msconfig still works normally and can be started by "Run"; often, this isn't possible when encountering the regedit clb.dll error).
Im running windows xp, and Im locked out of everything that is considered 'administrator' and i cant access my calendar, control panel, internet options etc etc. I am the administrator, and i cant access these applications in any of the user accounts, OR make new user accounts. Its clear that some kind of spyware or malware, or SOMETHING that i dont want on my computer is doing this to me and ive had a problem similar to his in the past and a little program i think i downloaded off this site helped me out, but i cant seem to find it again.
This is a fix for if you ever had a "data invalid" problem that nags you while you were installing and swapping out cards with Windows XP. This error appears to be due to a protection problem in the Windows registry and can occur with a variety of drivers (sound cards and SCSI drivers have been reported). To fix this problem, go to Start, Run... and type "regedit" without the quotes to run the Registry Editor. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetENUMPCI and you will see a number of keys of the form "VEN_xxxx", where xxxx are strings like "1102&DEV_0004&SUBSYS_00011103&REV_04". Under each of these folders will be another folder with a long numerical name. Open each folder and look for the "DeviceDesc" which matches the hardware you are trying to install. Right Click on the "VEN_xxxx" for that device and select 'Permissions' and then tick "Allow" for "Full Control". Close Regedit and then continue with the installation of your device. I cannot guarantee it works for everyone,
