How would I go about resizing one partition; making it smaller, and then adding the free'ed up space to the other partition? I am currently using Windows XP. Could someone please help me as soon as possible, I do not want to buy software, I will use free software if I have to
I installed PM 8.05 and used it to resize C drive (WinXP OS is there).I used the auto function to take a 1Gig amount each from drives D, E and F (about 25+ plus Gig free on each of these on a Seagate 120Gig HDD) to add to the 1Gig of free space on the C drive. The PM process seemed to go OK (went into DOS(?) and went through 7 steps to resize, etc) as there were no error messages. It said at the start it was going to do FAT 32 which is what I had the drives set up as. At the end PM said it was going to reboot and then the fan was hit. The boot up stopped at the "DMI Verifying Pool Data" message and the little line cursor just sat there blinking.
I was partitioning my C drive of windows using partition magic so that to install Linux. my laptop(hp pavilion dv5000) had only 1 partition so I tried this stupid thing. Unfortunately power went off during partition, and now I m not able to install windows XP neither from recovery disc or from regular xp cd. Some linux (suse, fedora) and windows vista are installing fine. But I need XP disparately. What to do.
does anybody know why i have 1.10 GB free space in Safe Mode and 804 MB free space in Normal? thanks. and i know that 804 MB free space isnt alot, this is a pretty small harddrive from what the computer says it is .
I currently have 13.0 GB of used space and 5.58 GB of free space. I would like to get more free space. My computer is about 2 years old. In those two years, I had to re-install Windows XP and everything else on my computer...for reasons unknown...I recently performed a New Installation of Windows XP on my computer. I don't have alot of things installed on my computer. The total space all the programs in my Add and Remove programs file takes up is only 1GB. Since I had to start over and re-install everything and my programs only add up to 1GB, Shouldn't I have more free space ?
The problem I'm having is, every week I do a scan disk and defrag. I've noticed that once defraged since a few weeks ago I HAVE GONE from over 70% free space down to only under 40%....I don't run any major software at the moment BUTDO use the internet on ADSL most days BUT not to any great extent. The only connection I can c is this copying Dig pix straight to disc...Am I right or is there sumthing else going on
i wanted to copy a cd image 4.18GB ISO format from partition F: NTFS 9GB free to partition D: (FAT32 12GB free space) and windows gives me that crap there is not enough space and i should do a disk clean up. I made a disk clean up to partition D: and there was 3GB of system restore files!!! maybe coz i deleted 6GB earlier anyway i deleted the system restore files
Only NTFS partions can have files with file size more than 4GB..i hope theres nothing wrong with my windows or my hard disk..and i wanna know if theres a way to move that ISO image..thanx in advance.
I've noticed sometimes that the Free Space on my harddrives won't reflect changes I've made. For example, on my 28.6gb F: drive, I had about 586mb free. I just deleted a video file of about 700 mb, so it should be up to about 1.2 gb. Oddly enough, its still at 586mb.
I recently noticed that my free space on hard drive has been eroded and my used space has been increasing. I have not added any software. Much to my dismay I cannot figure out why this would occur. We did make recovery disks and removed our partition some weeks ago. It seems our C drive is using up space without any explanation. Ran many different anti virus and spyware software and they did not detect anything.
I still do not have a fix for what it wrong. and by the way adding the space / f for the scan does not work.My chkdsk states: free space allocated in the master file table BTM.Problems with the file system.IT states different things in the read only mode, and I repeat I CANNOT do a chkdsk /f at all. It will not boot into the check disk mode to fix the file system. Please what can I do. It will defrag but not fix the file system. In fact, the computer will not reboot into the check disk mode when restarted.
I have my Windows format disc and I want to create another partition with it. I tried to create one, but it said something like "You have no more space to create another partition because you used up all your space on your Windows primary partition". See, when I reformatted my computer a while back I just created 1 partition for Windows and applied all the space onto that partition.
If there is a way I could remove some space off of my Windows primary partition and create another partition with the space I removed. I want to do this so I can put general things in my other partition such as documents, music, etc. and just leave the other partition for Windows and programs.
What are the steps needed to access one of my partitions, delete it, then use 1/2 the space and apply to system drive and the other 1/2 to another partition?
I would like to know if it´s possible to take free space from an extended partition and redistribute it to a primary partition using partition magic 8.0..both partitions are NTFS
At least once a week I get this message: "To free up disk space, OE can compact messages". I just click "OK". I have 132 GB available so why do I get a message like this?
I had to uninstall HP Photosmart C4100 series only because I was missing some wording on the buttons that just disappeared for some reason, It said to uninstall the program and then just reinstall it. Well now, when I go to reinstall, it will not automatically start so I clicked on my computer and dvd-rw Drive (E and there are no files, in fact it states that my my file system is CDFS and the CDA Default - Full It says all space used 672 MB and Free Space 0 Bytes
hard drive is 30Gigabytes. He only has 1.5 Gb free. Can you tell me where to look to free up some space? I mean, which folders would have the bulk of space? He doesn't download music or movies so I don't know where all his space went.
Nothing else on the partition except XP. Swap file, different partition. Apps, different partition. When I loaded XP on this partition perhaps a year ago, it had plenty of space. Now it's full. I've run the usual XP disk cleanup helper, deleted everything in any temp file I can find, cleaned out prefetch, moved all the NTUninstall folders to a different partition. Uninstalled unused apps, since I know they leave stuff in C: even though I've installed them somewhere else). I gained nearly 400MB when I did that, but now the space is back down to 80MB in less than a week. Where is all this bloat coming from? What can I do to trim it back down to size? Yea, I have PartitionMagic (old, v8), but I'd rather just trim the excess, if that's possible. I get nervous moving partitions around.
I am seeing 9G usage on C, and I checked Windows Explorer for a breakdown; but the tally comes no where near 9G. Is there another way to determine disk usage?
I have little free space on my C drive, but loads on my D&E drives. I don't want to risk moving programmes between drives. can move the spare capacity from my D&E drives to the C Drive
I have a really confusing problem here.. im not too clued up on PC's, but im not too stupid either. Anyways, I have a file.. 4.3gb in size (3 files actually..) on my PC. I want to copy it over to my brothers laptop and when it gets to about 91% it stops and says "Cannot continue: Not enough free disk space".Thing is, theres 26gb free on the drive
Windows XP uses a file called hiperfil.sys to save everything it needs when Windows XP goes into hibernation. If you are like me, and never use the hibernate function, you can turn it off. By turning hibernate off, Windows XP deletes the hiberfil.sys. This can free up the as much disk space as the amount of ram that you computer has.Go to Control Panel/Power Options/Hibernation and untick the box. It's as easy as that. Now you will have plenty more disk space to install those mega programs!
I am trying to transfer a 4GB file to my external hard drive, which is said to have (under My Computer) 46.3GB free. It keeps giving me a "Cannot copy file. not enough free disk space. Delete one or more files to free up space then try again"... error.I've rebooted, and I am sure there is more than 4GB free on the hard drive. Any ideas? Is there some max size for a file that you can transfer to a hard drive? I've never heard of that.. but I guess anything is possible.
I added 97gb for a part of the drive and 30gb on another half.. and my HD is 186GB in all so now I have 58GB of free space. What I want to know is how do I add this free space to my 30gb partition?
for some reason all of a sudden my computer completly ran out of space. Before i had a little less than half free. I tried to delete some things and it would free up some space but the next day it would have nothing again. i dont know what it is im guessing a virus but i dont know how to deal with it.
I have no idea what's going on, but my computer, a Dell Inspiron, has only 1 GB of Local Disk (C left on it. Now, for the past 8 months, i've been editing & burning DVD's and films using editing software like Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5, etc, and i've never had a problem. I've always had at least 50 GBs (or so i believe) of free space at any given moment when messing around with that stuff. When editing today, I was alerted that my local disk C was running low, and once i agreed to do a 'clean-up' of some sort to remove temporary internet files & offlines files, etc, i got a problem. Suddenly, my system was unstable and I had 3 MB of free space.
How can I free space on my D: drive? I have a total of 999 GB used and only 296 MB free. I have not downloaded much, but all of my space is being eaten up.
When I go to Windows Explorer it shows that I have used 22GB of space on Drive C, yet when I add up the total of all files on Drive C they only add up to 15GB.
I've been having a problem for the last few weeks. As I work on my computer the free space on my C drive decreases drastically. My drive is partitioned between C & D. When I restart, all my free space comes back. I just had to restart because I was down to 80 K. When I started I had 16.5G available. It's been about 2 hours and I'm down to 15G. I've run my anti-virus. About the time it started I installed a back up hard drive (which is intermittently attached to this laptop) and WD anywhere backup software.
