Anyone know a good method of purging an XP pc of a user, like when a machine is sold and the new user wants all traces of the old user removed?
I thought I had a reasonably good method, which was to create a new user account, remove the default files from it's folder in Documents and Settings, copy most of the contents of the original user's folder into it, then delete the original user.
This method isn't too bad, and removes most of the obvious traces of the original owner, while leaving all the desktop and Windows settings intact.
But a scan with RegSeeker (incidentally, this is a damn good free app for finding and deleting multiple registry entries) revealed 85 instances of the old user name still in the Registry, so my method isn't 100% effective
I had ad aware 6 on my computer. I intstalled ad aware 7 without uninstalling 6. Ad aware 7 uninstalled it, but it is still on my add/remove programs list. How do I remove it from this list?
I have been using Add/Remove icon in Control Panel to remove programs. Although the Win2k Pro is running fine ,the icon of Add/Remove Program is not opening the next window to remove the programs.
I recently installed Mcafee. I defraged my computer and restarted it. When it loaded up I noticed that everything is taking 2x as long to load and it is taking long time to even get the start button list up. I was able to get into the add/remove program list but nothing was there. I waited for about 10 minutes and then nothing still, I don't know any other way to remove McAfee, how to remove McAfee, add/remove program list won't work here.
I want to do a clean install of the licensed version of QuickBooks 2005 CD but not until the downloaded trial is cleaned from the HDD. Back on May 15th, Laura alt.comp.software.financial.quickbooks instructed me how to do this. Finally got around to starting the process a couple weeks ago, then put it on hold again because the uninstall didn't seem to work. I'm stuck. What I did: Uninstalled QBs 2005 Trial using Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs. It appeared to perform the program uninstall successfully and it's no longer listed in Add/Remove. But, according to the HDD the program is *still* installed. Did not find an "uninstall" or "unwise" file in the QB folder. Nor did
I have a amd 2400 processor and i'm using windows mediacentre xp2002. I had uninstalled some programs from my system but they are still in the add-and-remove utility in the control panel. How should i remove them from there?
I discovered that my main computer had acquired the 'Pure Networks Platform' mess, possibly from when I installed a Linksys WRT 160n wireless router. The actual software doesn't seem to be on the setup cd, but I haven't downloaded it either. Have figured out that its give me slowdowns and wierdnesses and generally making me mad. Especially when I find that it does not show in Add Remove! Tried searching for Pure Networks remover, and other variations in wording. Find that lots of people have similar difficulties. What is the trick? Safe mode and delete the folders? Search the registry manually?
I use Windows XP. I have two problems using the Add/Remove function in my Control Panel: specifically I want to remove a program called "Creative Zen V Series (R2). The prompt after attempting to remove comes back with "The specific module could not be found" and leaves the program showing. I need to get rid of this entry. Secondly I want to remove "Calendar Creator 9" and when this is selected to remove, I get a prompt that says "To install the program it must first be removed using the Control Panel function Add/Remove. This is frustrating as that is exactly what I'm trying to do, NOT INSTALL the program again.
Recently I installed "Ulead Video Studio 9" program on my computer. But for some reason it did not install properly, it crashed half way. Clicking on the shortcut on the desktop does not initiate the program. I decided to uninstall the program by going into the Add/Remove folder of Windows XP. But from the Add/Remove folder, I was not able to uninstall the program. Its like 174.5 MB file sitting on my programs folder. Tried to use DOS delete command to delete files. But it looks like will take few months to clear all the files. I was able to delete some files by going into each menu/sub menu etc. It looked like a very tedious process. There are thousands of files for this program. Does anyone know any good program to remove/uninstall this program without damaging other programs?
I downloaded a program from Ebay and after installing it I noticed it didn't have a uninstall. I used my add & remove program to uninstall the program but not all of it got uninstalled. I deleted the folder and then did a search in my registry for anything with refernce to the programs name "Ebay's Blackthorne" and deleted all entries with that name.Every time I reboot windows tries to install something for Blackthorne and I have to keep cancelling it out.
I go into my Control Panel and I click Add or Remove Program and I get this Run a DLL as an App has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. With this extra info: AppName: rundll32.exe AppVer: 5.1.2600.2180 ModName: unknown ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 00750063
I have already gone under MSConfig and unchecked the rundll32.exe from start up.
I was wondering if anybody can help me get rid of a number of program names i have sitting on my add/remove program, I try to remove them but when i do it tells me that the link does not exist and therefore i can't get rid of the name as i must have removed the offending programs manually instead of through the above program, as i should have.Is there a way of removing the wording, i have tried moving it into a removal program that i have, called emco move on boot, which is a drag and drop setup but i can't drag them across.
My son previously installed Lotus 5.0 and and Front Page Express and although they both are working fine, I have no need for either and would like to uninstall them. However, neither show up in the add/remove programs nor does a search of their program files show an uninstall file.
How does one remove items in the ad/remove screen when messages come up to the effect that the program has been incompletely uninstalled and cannot find certain files needed for removal. Am not comfortable going into the registry and doing anything because I do not know anything same and have been warned that unless you are an expert - leave the registry completely ALONE! Have been frightened to even open the registry let alone thinking about tinkering in it.
I have windows 2000 edition and I want to remove a program from the add and remove but it just says it installing it and it wont give me the uninstall part of it how can I remove the contents of the program or fix the program.

When I open the Add and Remove screen from the control panel 2 strange things are present.
1. There are dozens of listings that have no change or remove buttons, I don't know where they come from and would like to get rid of them.
2. There is a huge blank blank area, 30 programs displayed then huge gap before the next program you have to slide the bar almost to the bottom to see the next program.
I've just installed a new harddrive and begun the process of moving large programs over to the new drive. My question is: If I use the Add/Remove Program function and remove a program which exists on my old IDE drive and a copy of the program on the new SATA drive, will it remove the copy on the new harddrive as well?
I just noticed that the Last Used Date shown for programs in the Add/Remove list does not always agree with what I know to be the case. For instance, Bridge Baron 14 show as being last used on 3/9/2004. I just finished using it this morning so it seems like the date should be today's. The same holds true for many other programs in the list.Do I misunderstand what the Last Used date indicates?
My add/remove program list is gone. I can click on the box and it opens but is totally empty. I also have problems with 2 browsers missing links or pics and have no clue how to fix that or if it is related. A while back my puter gave an error saying something like 800assist was missing but I am clueless I am running Windows 2000.
I cannot use the add/remove program on my computer. The icon for add/remove in the control panel cannot function when clicked. It darkens but does not respond. Nothing opens. Nothing happens, it just sits there. Subsequently I CAN'T REMOVE ANYTHING. Not sure what is wrong.
Recently reinstalled xp and one of the first installations were various drivers. I notice that a vga driver icon for asus gamer osd starts every time i boot up and appears in my task bar which has to be removed. The settings do not have any preferences on not to start this at windows start. When i click on start all programs start up it does not appear there.
