Ewido And Hijackthis Are Clean - Keep Getting Popups For Antivirus Crap
Sep 25, 2006all i can say is ewido and hijackthis are clean, but i keep getting popups for antivirus crap. i'm going to try to delete mozilla, and then re-install it as some of the popups mention it. here's what one of the popups said:

I Did Add Spybot, A New Usb 2.0 Port, And Several Other Programs. I Have About 20 Icons On My Desktop. Will Any Of This Cause The Slowing Down Of Programs, Getting E Mail, Or Surfing The Internet? Jan 18, 2007We have a Dell Dimension 2400 with Windows XP installed. We also have Norton Internet Security 2007, Windows Defender, and do not seem to have any viruses or spyware. Out hard drive is just under half full (17.5 GB of 37.2 GB).takes 5 or 6 minutes from the time we turn on the computer until we can actually do something with it (connect to the internet with IE or check email with Outlook 2003). I uninstalled Google Desktop and turned off Windows Messenger (from the start menu), both of which helped some (used to be even slower). I have tried to uninstall Dell Alert (which starts every time) but am unable to with Uninstall Programs and cannot find DAMon.exe to just delete that. Once it is up and running, the PC is reasonably fast (the problem is just at the startup and first 5 to 10 minutes). I have a newer laptop I use on our wireless network and it connects very quickly to the internet so that is not the problem (as far as I can tell). We did recently switch from a cable modem to slightly slower DSL.

Feb 2, 2009As part of my monthly maintenance checks I ran Disk Clean up and it took so long to complete that it was almost like a drive-defrag. I had to cancel out of it at least once I try it in safe mode because I was sure it was hanging. Only it wasn't hanging, just running slow. The part that took forever was NOT the pre part where it estimates how much space you can free on the disk. That was done in a few minutes. It was when running Disk Clean up and it was doing the "Compress Old Files" part. It took at least 45 minutes. When I went into Safe Mode, as part of Disk Clean Up, I check something that I think was called "Temporary Index File Searching." that I did not see before in Normal Mode. Why would Disk Clean Up take 3-5 times longer to complete than usual?

Sep 9, 2005I have an ibm think pad with windows 2000 office professinal , it takes approx 12-15 minutes for start up and free space is 78 percent so I know the problem is not space. I am also unable to do a disk cleanup. I have defraged ok and once the computer has started I can surf easily what could be wrong I have a fair knowledge of computers but nothing about configuration Could someone please help?

Oct 28, 2009NeonFx, worked me through getting rid of a really nasty bug and now my machine has been proclaimed CLEAN! However, one of the really annoying side issues was that my printer was totally bogged down. I figured that getting rid of the virus would get my printer back. It spools up, starts to print, and then nothing....takes over 15 minutes to print a half page of word doc. I reinstalled the printer software and updated the drivers. It's still the same...no change. I spent HOURS on the phone today with an HP tech from the Philippines. He basically redid what I did, and said I was running out of RAM. Not true...I've got nearly 50% of RAM available....

Too Slow Disk Clean Up Hangs / Freezes
May 10, 2005My friend has a gateway computer, little more than a year old with Win XP on it and complains that the entire computer is moving too slow. I suggested to do a disk-clean up, defrag, etc. first and she tried, but she said that the disk-clean up will just hang and if she tries anything else even to cancel it, the system will freeze up.Any ideas? Is it spyware? Or should she just do a whole reformat?

Aug 27, 2008My windows XP Pro install should be clean, as very rarely do I actually use it. Most everything I do is done inside of VMs.Earlier today I was watching a video (on the host OS, not in a VM) while running Pidgin and Firefox on Linux in a VM (Using Sun's VirtualBox). I had been having some issues with the VM crashing (what I believed to be related to the minimal amount of ram that I had allocated for it), and it did crash while I was watching this video.Everything began to stutter, and the computer froze. After rebooting, it is taking upwards of 10 minutes for the Windows boot screen (with blue load bar) to finish, another few minutes for the the CRTL-ALT-DEL to show up, and then a minute or two for me to log in.

Dec 28, 2007I just recently did a reformat and clean install of windows (to get rid of all the dell bloatware that came with my laptop, clean the registry, etc). Problem is, now programs are opening really really slowly. For example, photoshop is taking a super long time to open, it used to be much faster.Internet/Firefox seems to work fine, but in general I can tell something isn't right. I'm pretty confident it's not a virus/malware problem, as I just reformatted, did a new install of windows, and have had zonealarm running from the start (and yes, zonealarm was running all the time previous to the reformat).

Jan 14, 2009I am running Windows XP Homedition. I have two drives inside, the regular C: drive and I have a Slave drive F: with all my photos and music and documents. The problem I'm having is that everytime I restart or reboot my system it say it needs to check F: drive for consistency. It haven't been doing that until now. Then once it goes through that the system comes up. I try to click on an icon like my internet or registry program, nothing comes up, its like a read only file or something. Its not executing the program. THEN all of a sudden I get a blue screen. It says this::"Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacture for driver updates. try changing video adapters. "Check with your hardware vendor for aany BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use SAFE mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advance SStartup options, and then select Safe Mode."

2000 Check Disk Doesn't Work / The Disk Check Could Not Be Performed
Feb 5, 2003when i run chdisk for errors in win 2000 by right clicking the hard drive icon and then clicking properties of c: harddrive, then tools tab, then click the check now button, and in the check disk options ticking "automatically fix file system errors" and clicking ok I get this message "The disk check could not be performed because exclusive access to the drive could not be obtained. Do you want to schedule the disk check to occur the next time you restart the computer."If i chose yes to that above it performs the diskcheck at reboot and when windows loads i go back to the checkdisk and i get the same problem again.

Mar 16, 2005Done multiple virus scans with Norton, scanned with ad-aware SE, spybot s&d, re-upgraded the xp pro install. For some reason, Yahoo Instant Messenger, MSN Messenger, Internet Explorer, and Hijackthis, all crash immediately when opened, and give me that stupid blahblahblah has caused a problem and needs to close. Also, trillian has the same problem, as does OE when trying to check my MSN and hotmail accounts, but works fine for my pop3 accounts. AIM works fine, as does firefox. I haven't recently installed or changed anything. I have done 2 system restores, and all attempts to un-install, re-install these programs has failed with the install wizard closing due to some insane problem.
