Aug 4, 2005Kept freezing especially when I go on the Internet or check my email in thunderbird.
I have tried to contact Compaq support but all my attempts proved futile.

Very Slow Startup - SP2 Dell Dimension 2400 - Check Email With Outlook
Jan 18, 2007We have a Dell Dimension 2400 with Windows XP installed. We also have Norton Internet Security 2007, Windows Defender, and do not seem to have any viruses or spyware. Out hard drive is just under half full (17.5 GB of 37.2 GB).takes 5 or 6 minutes from the time we turn on the computer until we can actually do something with it (connect to the internet with IE or check email with Outlook 2003). I uninstalled Google Desktop and turned off Windows Messenger (from the start menu), both of which helped some (used to be even slower). I have tried to uninstall Dell Alert (which starts every time) but am unable to with Uninstall Programs and cannot find DAMon.exe to just delete that. Once it is up and running, the PC is reasonably fast (the problem is just at the startup and first 5 to 10 minutes). I have a newer laptop I use on our wireless network and it connects very quickly to the internet so that is not the problem (as far as I can tell). We did recently switch from a cable modem to slightly slower DSL.

Apr 26, 2008I'm useing windows XP professional. I mistakenly downloaded a virus through my email. i found the virus and deleted it. i'm not sure if the virus is the cause of my problem but i can no longer print from my email or off the internet. The printer is a HP officejet 6110 all-in-one.

Sep 16, 2008is there a way i can look up what sites i've been to online within the last few days? i saw a video on Internet that i flagged and i want to be sure it gets deleted - actually, it needs something more than just being pulled from Internet, it needs police involvement. i think. i'm so worried about what i saw that i've been up all night trying to retrace my steps, no luck. i can't remember what search i used that led me to the video so i have to rely on something on my computer that'll get me back there.

Jan 14, 2009I am running Windows XP Homedition. I have two drives inside, the regular C: drive and I have a Slave drive F: with all my photos and music and documents. The problem I'm having is that everytime I restart or reboot my system it say it needs to check F: drive for consistency. It haven't been doing that until now. Then once it goes through that the system comes up. I try to click on an icon like my internet or registry program, nothing comes up, its like a read only file or something. Its not executing the program. THEN all of a sudden I get a blue screen. It says this::"Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacture for driver updates. try changing video adapters. "Check with your hardware vendor for aany BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use SAFE mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advance SStartup options, and then select Safe Mode."

Jan 6, 2010Sometimes but not always IE has been closing slowly, delayed. May have to wait up to 15 seconds before it closes sometimes less for tabs in the same window other times theey cloes immediately.

Jun 17, 2005The past week, when I visit particular Websites, they seem to 'hang', like they load to a certain point and then that's it, whilst most other websites are fine. I have run 3 different virus/adware programmes which haven't helped. I've also tried disabling/enabling the add-ons and I've looked at the system registry which still hasn't helped! The sites I'm having trouble with are www.bigpondmusic.com.au and www.ninemsnmusic.com.au and there is another music purchase website as well. I have installed all updates, and am running IE 6.0. Help! I am on the verge of Formatting my C drive just so that something will work!

Jul 26, 2005I have two computers connected through a home network. One of the computers is very new and the other, two years old.Both run XP-SP2. I use one mouse for both computers - connected through a 2 port KVM switch. On the older machine, the mouse hangs after I close Internet Explorer. After a delay of a minute or so, it does come back most often. This does not ahppen on the new machine. Mouse does not seem to hang after I close other programs..(tested a few, but cant swear by it). This gets very annoying when I am in a rush.

Dell Desktop Hangs Open Internet Explorer
Sep 11, 2009I have a Dell desktop with XP operating system ram:- 2gb. It hangs up when you have offce database open, miscrosoft outlook and Internet Explorer open. Its strange how it happens only on my particular desktop and it doesnt happen when I access my profile on a different Personal Computer office. As soon as it freezes. Then it would nt work even if I log out and log in into my pc.

Feb 5, 2003when i run chdisk for errors in win 2000 by right clicking the hard drive icon and then clicking properties of c: harddrive, then tools tab, then click the check now button, and in the check disk options ticking "automatically fix file system errors" and clicking ok I get this message "The disk check could not be performed because exclusive access to the drive could not be obtained. Do you want to schedule the disk check to occur the next time you restart the computer."If i chose yes to that above it performs the diskcheck at reboot and when windows loads i go back to the checkdisk and i get the same problem again.

Error check runs fine, and makes 5 checks. At the 5th check at about 98% you better be there and when it hits 100% be a quick reader so you can see if there are any bad clusters. The screen stays there about 3 seconds and then disappears. If you have bad clusters the HD might be going bad. Question. How can I make the Error Check summary screen stay put while I read it or how can I make it "log" someplace where I can go and read it at my leisure?

May 5, 2005I have been getting some very nice emails on Yahoo mail. They are supposed to have sound. I have sound on everything else on my computer. I have Windows XP Pro installed. I also have Stopzilla, Spyware Blaster, and Spybot. Would the problem have something to do with one of the blockers? And if so, how do I fix it?
