Folder Views - Arrange Sub Folders Content
Sep 8, 2007
I have created a folder, and inside this folder are a number of sub folders, each containing various text files, images, etc etc. I would like each sub folders content to be arranged in the same way. So have used VIEW/ARRANGE_ICONS_BY/TYPE/SHOW_IN_GROUPS
This setting places all .JPG, BMP, GIF, TEXT etc. in groups, and looks quite well ordered and neat. Probably not everybody's first choice, but it works for me. However, to achieve this layout I have to visit every single folder and it's sub folders individually, in order to make the necessary adjustments, and so that they all view in the same way. This can, and does, take hours. Is there any way that I can specify how I would like the contents of all sub folders within a main folder to be set up, without having to make the adjustments for each one over and over again? What's more, I have an external HDD connected to my P.C as additional storage, and when I transfer any folders to this external drive, whilst the contents remain intact, the settings for how each folder should view appear lost. So, back I come to the same old layout issue again.

I am running Windows XP Home SP2. I was wondering if there is a quick way to make my folders view the same way. Instead of having to go into each folder and right clicking, then choosing "arrange icons by" or "view" is there a way to do it from control panle or elsewhere so I can apply it to all my folders?

It seems that the default view for all folders is the view with folders open on the left side of the folder. Clicking the X on the left pane or click off the Floders button on the tool bar changes the folders view to the Windows XP style folder view. Then going to Tools>Folders Options and cklicing the View tab, then clicking on the button, Apply to All Folders does not apply this change to all folders and resets the folder back to what it was before I made the change.

I have a recurring problem on Folder Views / Folder Types that has been bugging me for a long time. You can customize a folder with a "folder type" - Documents, Pictures, Music, Video, etc - which comes with a default view and a list of default attributes most relevant to the type (artist and album title for music, dimension for video, etc). You can also setup so that the settings are "memorized". However, the memory seems to be quite short term for some of my folders. They tend to randomly reset themselves and there seems to be a consistent but unrecognizable pattern. For example, my "My Documents" folder is always changed to a pictures folder, while some of my music folders are changed to video

I have a report regarding a couple of high risk temporary internet files that are supposedly located inside certain content.ie5 folders, but those particular folders aren't showing up in any of the user profiles of this system. How do I locate them? I've done a normal search for folders named content.ie5 with 8 folders showing up, but none show the number-letter folders listed on the report. I've done a search in the XP registry and even the content.ie5 folders don't appear anywhere. Tried doing a search on just the number-letter subfolders mentioned and still nothing.I have all files and folders not hidden, including subfolders, but obviously XP ignores that direction with regard to these 'history' or 'temp int files' folders. The report came from SpyDoctor on a trial run prior to purchasing the program, so it can't remove them without purchase/registration. I've been able to remove all others listed in the report manually but not these entries because I can't locate them anywhere. If they don't show up anywhere, how does spydoctor find them?

When inserting a file, usually a picture file or even uploading a picture file onto the internet, a window will pop up and you'll see a list of files to choose from. Here, sometimes the files appear as "Thumbnails" and arranged by "Type" but sometimes they appear as "lists" and sorted by "name." Each time I would have to right click and change "view" and "arrange icon by" to my preference, which is sometimes 'thumbnails and modified,' and sometimes 'type and name,' depending on application. But, as soon as I am finished they would go back to the default view that is either 'thumbnail and type' or 'list and name.' And I have to do it all over again. Is there a way to stop this from happening so that each setting remains unchanged?

I am using Windows XP Professional. My folder views options ("Details, "Icons," etc.) do not seem to be working. When I right click on the My Computer icon on my desktop and choose Explore, I would like to see a "Details" list of my folders and files in that window, for example in my C: drive. In contrast, I have some folders on my desktop and would like to see the files in those folders represented by "Icons." It was working this way unitl a few days ago when all folders (Explore and folders on desktop) seem to revert to the last choice I make with My Computer>View - then choosing "Icons" or "Details " To try to correct this problem, I then went to My Computer>Tools>Folder Options>View Tab and changed various settings, such as "Reset all folders" and "Apply to All Folders" with the, "Remember each folder's view settings" box checked. Nothing seemed to work.
The "Remember each folder's view settings," box currently is checked. Still, if I set one of the folders views on my dekstop to "Icons," then go to "Explore" and set the view in that window to "Details," then the folder on my desktop has its view changed to "Details." It's as though the "Remember each folder's viww settings" is not working and the view for all folders (for folders on the desktop and in My computer) reverts to the last view setting I used. How can I get the folders on my dekstop to show iocns when I open it, while having the folders in my "Explore" window show "Details," when I open it, given the "Remember each folder's view settings," does not seem to be working?

Trouble remembering my folder views/settings. For example, I can set my folder to view Tiles or List or Details, but when I go back, it resets the view to what Windows chooses. Also, my quicklaunch bar won't remember the order of icons. After I change which icons I want where, it resets after a system restart.
So far, I have already tried deleting the BagsMRU key from the registry to reset the folder views. Also, I have already played around with the "remember folder settings" option in folder views. I have also tried a program called MRUBlaster to reset the settings. And, if I choose "set all folders to this view" setting, it works, but if I change the view later, it won't remember it

how to do something in Folder Options, View settings. I have most of my folders in Windows Explorer set to appear as a list. But I would like folders in 'My Pictures' to appear as thumbnails. But when I change them to thumbnails they always revert back to list view when I go back into that folder.

My favorite folder view setting in XP is "Details". After trying out some tweak apps, Windows Explorer shows every folder I open in "Icon View". I change it back to Details but later it reverts to Icons.
I know there's a simple way to:
1. globally change all folder views to Details...and
2. Preserve the setting.

I am trying to set up Windows 2000 Pro to open multiple windows of folders. I went to the control panel, folder options and set the radio button to open multiple folder windows. It will not do it. I can only open one folder view at a time. What am I doing wrong? I know this is not earth shattering as far a problems go, but I really need two and three windows of folders open at a time.

When I open my "My Computer" folder, it displays my computer contents just like any other folder on my pc... it doesn't break my icons up into groups. I can post a screenshot if you can't understand what I mean. Here's the really weird thing. If I login under my personal account, I have this problem. However, if I log off my account and log back in under the Administrator account, the "My Computer" folder displays properly, without anything wrong.
I am running XP at this time. XP Media Center Edition to be exact. My computer is fairly new, only purchased in July of last year. It is a Dell with a 3GHz processor and 4GB of RAM if that matters.

I am having a constant problem with my XP installation. The "Folder Views" will not retain "details" setting even though I constantly reset it to "details" and have that set as default in all folders through folder options. This does not happen on an old computer with a really old Windows XP installation. Set it at viwe "details" years ago and it has stayed set. Any ideas on something else to get this to stay as I reset it?

Is it safe to delete files in the c:/temp folder and is there any way I can automate the deletion of files from this folder once a month or something?

Windows that the program opens for that particular worksession are in another order than it used to be. As a consequence of that, the tiles on the bottom of the screen are now in a different order than what I am used to. I want to change that so that the tiles on the bottom of the screen are in the same order as before.
Program does not appear to allow any changes in the order in which it opens the windows, so the only option would then be to change the order of the tiles after opening a worksession.

Using Window Blinds, a software to customize your computer. So I was just check how different themes would look, then at the end I put it back to normal, but my desktop is acting really funny, because when I right click on the desktop, then go on Arange Icons by, I click on Auto Arange, all the icons bunch up really close together, so the My Computer Icon covers the My Document, name and so on.

I was trying to change the icon of my file folders to something else, and somewhere it said that I could do that at the file types tab of folder options in the control panel. I tried it and it didn't work (not important). However, whenever I opened a folder, it just opened search. I went back and looked at the actions and I didn't see open in there, but find was there (not in bold or anything), so I guessed that it was "find"ing instead of opening. I added a new action called "Open" that used explorer.exe and set it to the default action, but now every folder opens in a new window. I can't delete the action at all and have no idea how to change it. I'm new here and am not sure if this thread is where it belongs. (First post btw).

I am having great difficulty with my current hard drive, a Maxtor 160GB 7200 drive. About a month ago, several folders began randomly turning into gibberish, and when I click on the folder, the amount of data listed is in the Gigabytes, instead of Megabytes. The corrupted folders could not be deleted, nor could the programs be removed. So, three weeks ago, I reinstalled Windows XP and re-formatted the partition on which these corrupted folders were located. For three weeks, things have been just fine. Today, however, when I tried to use Corel Quattro Pro, it would not work. Sure enough, the entire Corel folder has turned into unintelligible goo, and can not be deleted. At first, I thought a virus might be causing this random corruption. However, I now I suspect that this constitutes hard drive corruption, possibly early signs that hard drive failure is around the corner. One bit of information that I think I need to relay is that, in addition to Windows XP, I also run Windows 98 on this computer. None of the 7 partitions are over 20GB, however, so I wouldn't think that Windows 98 would have any trouble recognizing the data.

I know you can either hover over a folder in Explorer or right click, click properties and get the folder size - but what I want is a fix or utility that allows me to see multiple folders, ala Explorer, and see their size displayed - the way it does for individual files on the DETAILS setting

I have had this problem for a couple of years now, even in a few different computers. I have a folder with files I am keeping, copying it from computer to computer when I change computers. In this folder I am unable to see folder/file names unless I mark them. This has irritated me to some extent since there are around 12-13000 files in this folder by now. I have asked around at computer-tech stores, and some of my more or less nerdy friends. One of wich is mostly always able to help me but not with this.

I'm using Windows XP and I've been having problems with some MP3 files in regards to album artwork and tagging. I've discovered that it's my album folders that have been tagged (most likely by me) to have a custom Folder Picture.I want to remove all the Folder Pictures from my music album folders. I fear I will have to do one by one (which is a LOT!) unless I can find a reverse procedure in the program I suspect caused this to happen. That program is Tag&Rename, and I suspect I accidentally added custom pictures to these folders when I was adding album art to the individual music files

I was moving about 450gb of music from my old external (which was almost completely out of space, 465gb) to an internal 1tb drive. I was installing/setting up a program, thinking 'no way this will affect the file transfer', when suddenly that program gave an error (can give specifics on this if needed). Immediately after, my files stopped moving. It said 'delayed write failed, data has been lost' or something like that. I looked on my external, and it was empty. At this point i was rather upset because i thought i had lost years worth of music. Since I thought i had lost all my data, i tried one of those recovery programs("diskdigger") And it couldn't even access the drive. Gave an error, then showed it as 0gb. But the drive properties still showed 300+ gb even though the only folder in it was shown as empty.
So, i did the classic windows fix-all, restarted. My computer would not even go past the motherboard boot screen for 5 minutes. At this point i was about to jump out the window, but i restarted again and it worked. I went to my external, all my folders were there, i could open all the subfolders, play the music with vlc, etc. BUT now when i try to move the folder with all my music, it says "Cannot move file: Cannot read from source file or disk".

On my D: drive, I have several folders (500 something I think) containing mp3s that I have ripped from my CD collection. What I want to do is transfer all the mp3s contained in these folders to My Music (I have just upgraded to Windows xp media center edition). Rather than going through each folder manually, and going through the time consuming process of selecting, copying and pasting every mp3 in each folder, is there any way I can select all of the mp3s in all of the folders automatically, and have them copied over?
