I need to free up some disk space on my laptop hard drive (Casio Laptop, Win XP, Office 2000, Pentium 4, 133 MHZ, 20gig HHD). c:/temp folder has about 6GB of file in it. Is it safe to delete files in the c:/temp folder and is there any way I can automate the deletion of files from this folder once a month or something?
View 4 RepliesI have a program, or shoulfd that be a group of files, that are appearing over time in the TEMP folder and they are very annoying. The files are all 0KB in size, and though I can get rid of them with a reset of the system, I'd like to know how and why they are there.
All the filenames are just numbers, i.e. 5807.exe
One morning I had 14 of these files. They seem to have appeared over night. I have tried deleting them, but I am told they are being used and cannot be deleted, but I am unable to find out what program is using them.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have created a folder, and inside this folder are a number of sub folders, each containing various text files, images, etc etc. I would like each sub folders content to be arranged in the same way. So have used VIEW/ARRANGE_ICONS_BY/TYPE/SHOW_IN_GROUPS
This setting places all .JPG, BMP, GIF, TEXT etc. in groups, and looks quite well ordered and neat. Probably not everybody's first choice, but it works for me. However, to achieve this layout I have to visit every single folder and it's sub folders individually, in order to make the necessary adjustments, and so that they all view in the same way. This can, and does, take hours. Is there any way that I can specify how I would like the contents of all sub folders within a main folder to be set up, without having to make the adjustments for each one over and over again? What's more, I have an external HDD connected to my P.C as additional storage, and when I transfer any folders to this external drive, whilst the contents remain intact, the settings for how each folder should view appear lost. So, back I come to the same old layout issue again.
What is the "Temp" folder for which is at C:Documents and Settings Admin Local Settings Temp? Nothing seems to appear there while I use IE to browse.

A simple search under Windows Explorer(*.tmp )has some files show up as Windows emp, some as Windowssystem32, and some as Program Files PC MightyMax, but all of these are listed as tmp in the TYPE heading of Windows Explorer.In addition, I've never used the Hijack This program before but I will now to submit what I guess is a snapshot of my system...?? View 14 Replies View RelatedI downloaded Sony Vegas Movie Studio and clicked the installer as I would normally do with any program I would download and a window comes up telling me that my Temp folder (CDocuments and Settings/"name"/Local Settings/Temp) is write protected. I can't do anything >.< I right clicked the Temp folder and unchecked 'Read Only' and applied it, right clicked it again, went back to properties to see if it worked and the box is rechecked again I'm stumped.

Windows is installed on an 80GB hard drive, which had (when I first booted the computer) only about 0.5GB free.I eventually found out that the temp folder under "C:Documents and SettingsMY NAMELocal Settings" was taking up almost 60GB.I emptied it of all but two files, both ending in .tmp (i forget what they were called). They were both 144KB in size. I couldn't delete them as they were "in use".So why does the computer still think that the temp folder is so enormous? Right now it says 57.5 GB. What should I do about it? I have checked that hidden files are shown, and run Cleaner and Disk Cleanup.

He has a 300GB hard drive and only about 20 or 30GB is used but the rest of the Hard drive will get filled with the above temp files until the whole drives runs out of space..its'll go down to 1 MB or less so the rest of the 200GB is full of temp files..and the low hard drive notifications popsup.. There were only three folders in my documents - My Music, My Pictures and My Videos, and these only contain the standard sample stuff. Basically, my user is like new again! All my installed programs were there however.
