Running XP Pro.This has never happened before. When I try to save a file using a program, it saves the file as FILENAME instead of FILENAME.extension.
Using Photoshop, when I try to save Rainbow.png, it saves the file as Rainbow if I don't include the .png in the Save As dialog. I have to manually rename the files without extension to Rainbow.png for example for it to be recognized as a .png file. This happens with each other program that saves files, such as audacity, FL Studio, hence even notepad.
For some odd reason now, everything on my desktop, and inside of my folders, pictures with the extension of JPG and so forth are not able to be saved unless i type in the extension also. I have no clue what could have triggered such an error, and I have no clue how to fix it. If I go and try to rename a file in my Pictures folder, for example, I can't rename it unless i type it as...."image.jpg"....I can't just save it as plain old, "image" - what the heck is going on? Does anyone know what happened or how to fix this?
What about the nls files extension? What is? And for what i need them. How can i edit or modify this files (they dont modify by themselve, sure? And if i install a new program, it will update or corrupt theses files? Recently i had install the getmydataback (to recovery deleted files)and i dont know the reason some the .nls extension (alguns) files have been modyfied. What it is the real function of this files? They are used for what?I use the windows server 2003, and i have small lan that acess this server, and before i had install this programm, the server dont work properly..
I'm using Windows XP Pro SP2 I have encountered what seems to be an undocumented feature of the file move action.I saved a web page including associated files from either IE7 or Firefox2.If I move the associated files folder to an other location the .htm file moves with it. Why? Who told it to do that? Where is the user configurable option for to link a file to a folder? Where is the global system behaviour option to enable this non standard file system behavior? If you move the associated files folder to an other location which happens to contain a .htm file with the same name (eg the very common index.htm file), the undocumented behaviour described above will still occur and the file will be overwritten without ANY standard file conflict warning and without any user choice in the matter.
Has anyone heard of an 03 file extension or a program that will open these files. I have searched for this extension on the net but came up with nothing. I am wondering is there such a file.
Ive had some viruses lately and i think they damaged my icons.txt file and bat files show up as the icon for a file extension that is not known i tried lots of programs and none worked please help me also reg files dont work i click on them and they dont import Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 and REGEDIT4 dont work either.
I have to get rid of all traces of "illegal" files, tracks to files, mention that I ever even looked at said files on the internet or on my hard drive. This is my work computer and they are checking it this Thursday.XP professional SP2. As example, when I open Adobe Photoshop, it shows a link to every movie and pix I have viewed. I have deleted these files, so they no longer exist, but it shows the files as having been viewed. You click on the file in Photoshop, and it says the file is no longer available, but the NAME of the file, (ie Lesbian Girlfriends.mpeg) is still there. I have deleted History, the IE cache files, the cookies, the actual file itself, but I can't find the hidden file that still shows my viewing history. If the boss has soft ware that even detects that type of name, I'm screwed
It said there was a change to the global template for microsoft word and did I want to save changes so I said no and the pc shut down. Later on I tried to call up my key logger and heard a beeping noise from within my pc. I paid it no attention and went on the rest of the day working. I was using Quicken later on and noticed that when I tried to view certain graphs they seemed to be "fluttering" (The page seemed to go up and down rapidly on its own) I closed it and ran Avast antivirus scan. I tried to activate it and got an error message that said it ran into some kind of runtime error (I think) I finly got it started, ran a scan and came up empty of viruses. Then Avast kept shutting itself off. I emptied my waste basket, went to internet options, deleted all files and history (Including online content) then cleared all in Firefox.
on my xp pro system, when im on the internet, every time i use the search facility it saves whatever i search in a list, this list automatically comes up when the next search is entered where is this list saved? is it posible to edit or delete this type of list?
My pc sometimes resets. It shows a bluescreen and then resets. The problem is that the reset is followed almost immediately after the bluescreen. I can't read the bluescreen. Is there a way to retrieve the last bluescreen. Is it saved somewhere?
I have recently upgraded to the latest version of MSN Messenger and started experiencing some ill effects from the upgrade. My user account on my computer will no longer store my passport information (for me or any other account on my machine). I have checked all of the settings in MSNM to make sure that nothing is set there, and there isn't. I have also gone through the wizard to setup the accounts for a .net pasport, and still doesn't seem to be working.
I was able to use Movie Maker to save a lot of pictures to disk. They play as a slideshow. Is there a way to get actual pictures back. Playing then in Movie Maker and using the capture feature gives me MUCH lower quality pictures than I saved to disk. Also, when I want to save more pictures to disk, is there a way to save them as pictures and not a slide show?
Open a folder. Go to the tools menu, then go to the view menu. One of the boxes down on the list, says Remember Each folders View settings.I have that checked.HOWEVER, after I shut off the computer, and sometimes after I have ran any number of programs, all my folders reset to Icon view. Something is wrong with the system as it is not saving each folders view setting. Could this be due to a virus, or a corrupt entry in the registery file?
I'm currently trying to transition from XP to 7, and I want to keep the same image, but I saved it from a website, (right click: use as background), and can't find where it was stored. This would be a problem, but the site went down, and i've tried to find it for hours.
Ive got 2 links that i've sent to my desktop. When I click one it opens fine, and when I double click the other, it kills my previous site and opens in that same window.I'm beside myself in trying to find why this is happening. It does not happen on my laptop while using IE6.Just wondering is there some little setting that I am missing?
I have recently had my laptop stolen and have gone back to an old laptop which has XP; Having loaded my work from a backup DVD I am unable to open any of my word documents / Excel documents / (some Photoshop documents) When I try and open it it says it is 'wrong type of document' or 'file is not in a recognizable format' and their icons are strange and dont look the same.I am hoping that this is just somthing silly that I have forgotten to do as it seems strange that I cannot move the documents backwards through the operating systems!

The video I just made is 3 minutes 6 seconds long. When I save it (did this five differen't times) it ends at 2 minutes and 14 seconds? Why on earth? How do I fix this problem? This hasn't happened before. This is only my second video on movie maker, but the first time it worked perfectly. What's going on?
I clicked on a link within a webpage and picked something about saving it to my desktop; Windows asked if I wanted it available offline and I stupidly said yes.Now I have an odd-sized webpage-like thing embedded in my wallpaper and can't seem to get rid of it. I've used the search function with Windows and set it to look in hidden files and folders. I found and deleted three copies of the document through Seach, including one in my trash bin and still the offending item won't go away. Changing my wallpaper doesn't work either.
to re-installing Windows XP Home Edition from scratch? My PC has become unbelievable slow and in spite of all that I have tried in the last few months to fix it, nothing has worked. I have come to the conclusion to re-install and really CLEAN my computer so it will perform as it should. I have saved all documents and made a list of all the software installed to make the process easier.
I just discovered 20 of these files in the C: root directory in one of my computers and have never seen them there before. This is what the file name looks like:I did a Google search on it and it appears to have something to do with MSN Messenger 8.0. If that's the case, I did install the 8.0 beta version about a week ago - which originally worked, but no longer does. I haven't uninstalled it yet.
I have a file with many pictures in it and bellow the picture where the name is it says .JPG or ,GIF next to the name, but i cant get rid of it, so when i try to change the name without the .JPG a popup come up and says "if you change the file name extension the file me become unsusable". How do i get rid of this?
I have read past posts about the problem with the LNK-extension, but I haven't found a solution that solves my problem. I haven't poked around the registry a lot before, so I need a nudge in the right direction. First off, I run Win XP, I don't have servicepack 2, I use Norton Antivirus and Internet Security, and Ad-Aware/Ad-Watch monitors everything going on.This brings us to my problem; suddenly all the exe-icons on my desktop and start-menu all have the extension .lnk (.LNK)
I am looking for a feature I have encountered in linux in the past which allows you to launch your applications from a right click.Anyone know of anything?
Desktop file folders (links from My Documents) suddenly appeared with *.lnk extensions. I have hidden known file extensions but these remain. How can I hide them?
