About two weeks ago, I was going to buy "register Mechanic" cleaner and I believe a "John" answered my question with a good free register cleaner. Reg Scrub" which I used two times. The last time I also ran "Seek & Destore", and it took out the Reg. Scrub. Where can I go to again download it.
View 12 RepliesMy computer has always worked fine until last night i decided to download a registry cleaner and ran it. I also defragged the drive and when i restarted it just kept rebooting. I have now already tried the following:
-memory swaps
-hardware removal
-repairing windows
-reloading windows
the problem remains the same i get as far as first screen alerting me that i can push del to enter setup or bios etc. Then the system reboots and starts all over again.
I had a problem with my external hard drive…which I informed you guys about. I was advised to solve the problem (potentially) using chkdsk on the drive. It worked to an extent Some, in fact the majority of files were recovered. However the problem remains in that not all files were recovered and NOW one file…when clicked on to gain access I am told that the drive is not formatted and would I like to format it now. Of course, I would not as the information is important. I enclose a copy of my previous letter to give you a full spectra of the saga.I am having problems with an external hard drive I purchased about a year ago. Files seem to be disappearing. I have a file which contained about 12gb of information (music files etc). The file now only has 88mb of information. It is the top part of the files but as you can see is only a raction of what it used to be. What has happened to the files? I have done a search in the drive…and no sign of them. Also, the system information does not register any
increase on the ‘free space’ of the drive. I am at a loss. What is happening? Can I retrieve the files? It is really punishing to think that they may be lost to me for good.
This is not so much a problem as a request for help and advice. I have had my system now for around a year and have uninstalled and re installed alot of games and programs. Ive noticed i have accumulated quite alot of files in various places which i probably dont need so i was wondering if theres a program or method out there to get rid of this rubbish. I am already using registry mechanic (latest version) and ccleaner but have noticed there are still bits left in the registry which dont look like there doing anything. Any help on cleaning out my pc and maybe making it run a bit faster by maybe disabling or removing parts.

Why? long story.I can't register it because the cd came installed on my dell, I have to purchase another key.I'm screwed (she is). I can't get any updates. I ran housecall and it came up with 5 pages of windows and explorer problems. All would be solved with SP2 and other updates.I can't afford a new operating system or the 90 bucks for a new key.What are my options? Do I try another operating system, Linux? I am not to bright with these big problems, at least their big to me. Just figuring out the small stuff still. I can't even keep her computer on line

When i boot up and go to my desktop a few seconds later it say you have 30 days to activate windows. so i click on it and it asks if i want to register windows over the internet, so i click next, then it asks if i want to register with microsoft or something like that so i clink no. then it says "checking for connectivity" and then it says "you were unable to connect to the server" or something like that "Please make sure you are able to connect to the internet". Im able to use fire fox and google crome.

I have three Pcs running on a wireless network and all systems have their pre-installed Microsoft Genuine XP Home Edition setup with their own different genuine Auth Licence Keys ! Just built a new system and was wondering if i could install XP Home on it and use pre-owned installation cd and use the same licence key again on this new built pc ? I assume I could do it, but what about the online registration needed to validate the product ?

"The portion of your e-mail address that follows the @ symbol is part of a "reserved domain" such as live.com, hotmail.com, msn.com or passport.com. Please type a different e-mail address" I know I entered my address correctly (tried it several times). Any thoughts?
Installed Windows XP Pro on a laptop and have "activated it" does this mean that if I ever have to format the machine and reinstall windows I won't be able to register the same copy again or is there a limit to the amount or activates?

I'm using one batch file (*.bat) to do this task (unregister the old version and registering the new version). When run this bat file after, few minutes ( i don't know all the files are registered). the system getting shuttdown. I tried the same work using windows API functions also.But the same(using regsvr32, Windows API) work well in the other operating systems (Windows 2000 prof). what will be problem? or is there any other better way to register the dlls?

I have been trying to install a new version of XP on my computer mainly because I can't handle 64 bit and it's refusal to be compatible with my wireless card. First of all, I do not have a registered version of the 64 bit due to no internet connection which didn't allow me to register my copy and in turn locking my computer unil I do so. My friend gve me a copy of XP pro SP3 and I want to install it, but I have a few issues. How do I delete the old OS? How do I install the new one? I have been having some problems with opening the bios and what not, I am using ASUS P5N73-AM mobo. I really need help with this, because it is limiting my use of the computer, a brand new computer which I have not been able to consistently use since the time I bought it.

I thought it might just need to be cleaned so I went and bought a cleaner. I tried it and now it won't do anything. I bought a brand new CD and it won't even read it at all. Lots of writers seem to praise RegCleanr and funnily enough, I have a copy which I downloaded some time ago; vers 4.2.One writer, explaning how to use it, said, and this is a paste-in of that paragraph..No installation required ... just place it in your favorite folder, click on it to execute it, then click on the "Registry Cleanup" button on the bottom left-hand corner of the display/screen. There AIN'T any button anywhere at the bottom. If I hit tools I get registry cleanup with a lot of choices which I don't understand, Maybe he has a later edition? But can anyone who has this version, or who knows the sequence of what to do, or who has the instructions, post it up?

Nothing unbearable, just a few seconds of extra lag when opening a program or folder, but enough to catch my attention and prove bothersome.It also wasn't there when I built this computer about a year or so ago, so I feel it must be something I can fix.I run Spybot and Ad-aware fairly regularly, with no results, and also have McAfee to watch for viruses.At the moment I am considering trying a registry cleaner to see if it will help, though I thought it might be better to stop by here first and see if there's something else I haven't tried or thought of first.

Still, I know more than most people... Anyway, I bought this proggy thinking it would give me a bit more
information than just going into regedit and poking around without a net. So far, it doesn't. I knew it would suggest changes that I would be able to accept/reject one at a time. But the information it gives
is pretty useless for making the decision. And it is not like there is a manual explaining what all this means. Also I am skeptical since it found 106 "problems" and this computer is less than a week old.
Does any kind soul care to comment on a few illustrative examples?

OK, so this is "High Priority." Very dramatic. And the value is invalid, but the value of what? And the value is set to delete. Should I be wondering whether this value needs to be fixed rather than just deleted? I more or less understand "location"...this is where in the registry the invalid value can be found. But I don't understand "default." Is this the default setting of the invalid value? Is Reg Cleaner proposing to reset the value to the default? What if the system was intentionally configured differently from the default? Am I even asking the right questions? Example 2:

In looking for examples I've just realized that the soultion in every case is "set to delete." What is SrcDir? What is this telling me?
About a week ago I downloaded SP-2 and everything seemed to do okay, but have since detected a funny (not Ha Ha) problem. After turning on my PC it runs for about two minutes and then shuts down and restarts all by its self. It does not happen every time, but about 80-90% of the time. Everything seems to run okay after that for 2-3 hours, but I have not been on line longer. I have not added any new programs or games in many months.

It says this as I dont have Service Pack 2 installed anymore after the re-installation. I really need it because I bought the Zune to take away tomorrow and now I cant put any music on it untill I get SP2. OK, so ive download SP2, and it runs for bout 40 minutes then it gets to a bit were it says umm..inspecting system configuration before installand then just stays at that point.
