I just updated to Norton Antivirus 2010 todayand now when I start my computer it shuts down immediately, right after the login/password screen.I don't get the start-up music, or anything else.It goes right into the close-down music and shuts down.Can't find any help on Microsoft Website, and I doubt Symantec would help.

Sometimes when cutting and pasting text from a web page, the "smart" highlighting grabs stuff I don't want it to grab. For Example:start here 'and select this text'but not this Using your mouse, start at the "a" in "and" on the previous line. Click and hold to start text highlighting, then move the mouse to the end

Hello, I am new to this website, and need some serious help. I have a Gateway GT 5028 that is about a year a half old. I came home today to turn it on, and the only thing that happens is the fans both work, the cd drive lights come on, the power button light comes on, and the orange cpu light comes on. After a few seconds the cd lights flash again, and they repeat this process. The screen, keyboard, and mouse do not work. The monitor stays black the whole time. It has windows xp on it. I got it at Best buy, but it is out of warranty. It seems as if the computer continually restarts?

View 4 Replies View RelatedA friend has windows XP, which he has been using as an offline thing to just do correspondence etc. He is not internet wise, and has not used internet since his son emigrated to the UK in March.. I was helping him set up internet and outlook express as he has just signed up with a wireless internet connection. We were doing a disk clean up, had eliminated all the games, music and adware files that his son had on the PC and had downloaded AVG (he had no virus protection at all and I insisted before he started using the internet we download some form of protection) and were doing a virus check ( 1900 files, over 200 virused with mainly win32/parite but a lot of trojan horses too!!!)
View 9 Replies View RelatedI lost the My Music and My Pictures icons on the start menu. I moved My Documents and was prompted to move the current items. I said (stupidly) yes. I noticed I had 2 music and picture folders in My Documents. I deleted the Folders that had been moved when I reloacated. When I went back to the start menu, My Music and My Pictures were gone. I looked in properties, and the two items were selected. I went to the registry and the entries for music and pictures were gone in UserShellFolders and ShellFolders. I recreated the entries. After all of this, there are still no icons for Music and Pictures on the start menu.

It's redundancy not to my liking to have My Pictures and My Music folders within My Documents folder, and to have My Pictures and My Music icons on the Start Menu; which lead to the same folders.

The first problem that the screen would get a lot of jibberish on it. Pixels or what ever. I tried a new cable and uninstalled and reinstalled the driver and no go. I installed a new driver and the same. Finally I tried a new video card and it worked great. That is just the first of the problem. I then noticed that one of his hdd on his raid 1 had gone bad so I took it out and got it replaced. In the meantime when I restarted his computer it did a disc check and did some things I had never seen before but it completed the check on the good disc. All seemed to be working well until a few days ago he said that his music was doing crazy things so I went over to take another look. I played a song and it would start in the middle of the song and play a whole nother song. I would play Queen and Celine would come on but it would start in the middle of one of her songs. Not all the songs are like that though. We never did count but I would venture to say at least half are still good. I then just out of curiosity went to his pictures and they also had problems. A couple of them would show up and the others would not. They still showed they had 1.6mb or 2mb in each folder for the pictures but nothing would show up. He mentioned something about some power surges but he is proteced with a battery backup ups from APC. What does it sound like to you?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI use XP Pro SP1. Everytime I open Windows Explorer, then click My Documents, I find My Pictures and My Music listed as subfolders. I manually delete them. Next time I open My Documents, there they are again. Any tips on how to permanently prevent these 2 items from appearing?

Unable to run iTunes, a problem which started at the same time. The iTunes error originally request chdisk, which I did, problem persisted. Installed new iTunes version and did System Restore to one day prior to problem. Now iTunes simply crashes when I attempt to start it. I tried running the Desktop.ini reset command, no change due to that either. I am running XP Home with multiple users.

have a file in my music which won't delete. when I do a search it says it is in documents and settings as well, but I can't find it. when i try to delete I get message to open or play but none to delete. can't move it to another folder or drag it to recycle bin. I have xp home.

View 4 Replies View RelatedA few weeks ago I decided to move my music library to my external harddrive since my internal drive was nearly full. I stupidly moved my "My Music" folder, which is labled Julie's Music, to my F drive. At first, iTunes operated fine after I moved my music files, but later it could not find the iTunes library and would not open. I tried moving "Julie's Music" back to My Documents on the C Drive. But iTunes still cannot find iTunes library because it cannot find the My Music folder, even though it is there. I also cannot rename my Julie's Music folder back to My Music. It seems to me moving the folder corrupted it and now I can't open iTunes since it can't locate its library.

Here is the problem...I went to my Music file to listen to some music and my folder was filled with numerous pics of albums and the title on them all started with Album Art. I deleted them and BAM they were back again as copies. As many as 26 each! Do I have a major probem here? Noone else uses the computer but myself and I have no idea where these ALBUM ARTs came from.

I have just added a Maxtor external hard drive and would like to move all my music there to free up space on the C drive. I tried to drag a folder to the external HD but when I look at the properties of the files that I drag they still say that they are in C drive. View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen I had Win98SE I could insert a music CD in my CDROM and it would automatically start to play. Now with SP Home Edition [Ver 2002, SP1] nothing happens when I insert a music CD into either my CDROM or my Burner. I do have sound though, either playing wav files or other sound files, so the problem is not my sound card or speakers.
In addition, in my XP I "used" to see a pop-up when I put a blank CD in my burner in preparation of burning a CD with my Nero. It gave me some choice which I never really looked at closly because I just closed the window and went to Nero to burn a CD. Now, I don't get that popup any more either.
Confused, I hope not. Have described my problem as best I can. If you need additional info to determine a response, let me know.
