Direct3d stopped working on my friend's computer, all of a sudden, for no particular reason. DxDiag says that "direct3d functionality is unavalible...verify drivers." I reinstalled all of the drivers, and DirectX.

I just got my motherboard replaced as the old one was not installed correctly. Ever since, even doing the smallest thing like rolling the mouse wheel will make the computer go up to 70, 80, even 90% computer usage. Also, I cannot seem to run games now because my Direct3D is apparently not activated.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIt's a Compaq presario 700 laptop, XP SP2 home edition, 486mb ram AmD athalon and for some reason just recently the sound is not working right.If I'm playing a music file the sound that comes out is all broken up.This just started happening within the last week and I did uninstall (delete) the sound drivers and when I rebooted they re-installed, but I have the same problem.
This problem is kind of wierd I was having problems with my video card. When I went to boot up the screen would go black. New drivers would not fix the issue. So I bought the same videocard again, thinking that something was wrong with the old one. The new videocard still doesn't work, but in the process of trying to boot up it did something to the registry, so now if I try to boot up I see a blue screen which says there is a registry problem and it shuts the computer down. Getting frustrated I thought it was best to just reinstall XP - so I started the process, only when it got to which partition you tell it to use I got the same blue screen with a registry error. So now what? How can I reinstall XP I thought that when you were installing XP it was basically "running" off of the install disc, so how could the registry be effecting it?
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe tweak is simple.Beside the QoS and others around the Internet for the new XP Operating System,I found out that native drivers sometimes slow you down.So if you have applied all tweaks and you are still having slow downs try reinstalling your NICs drivers.I have reinstalled my NIC drivers with the latest found on their website, and now I can really appreciate all my available bandwidth.The difference is noticeable.My web pages now load almost instantly where they used to take even a minute.As allways, this tweak worked well for me, but may not work with everybody, just try.You can go back to native drivers anytime.
View 9 Replies View RelatedA few weeks ago, I received a blue screen of death that would not get off my computer. I had the Windows Antivirus Pro Virus that would not go away. I am going to school tomororw and needed this off my computer. So I decided to wipe the hard drive clean with the Dell CDs that came with this purchase. I downloaded Windows XP and some of the drivers. Some of the drivers that i tried to download say they downloaded but then do not come up. Broadcom440x10/100 is saying the network cable is unplugged, I have no idea what that means and internet will not work. What can I do manually to make this work?
View 4 Replies View RelatedHi, yes, I did something really stupid! I was having major issues with laptop and as a last resort decided to reinstall Windows [should have been Vista]. However, I have two Dell Inspiron laptops and apparently used the wrong disc! I installed Windows XP. Now I have no internet as the Ethernet driver, and a few others, are showing errors. I looked in Device Manager etc and about 8 or 9 drivers were not installed. Oh, and the correct Windows disc is in US with my computer wiz son, and I'm over in UK! So . . . . is there anyway to install the missing drivers? Or even get Dell or Microsoft to help me get the correct version of Windows to reinstall?
I have internet access on my mini Dell, and also on my desktop - which does have CD writer etc if I needed to download files. Or can that be done on memory stick?

View 14 Replies View RelatedI reinstalled Windows XP on my Dell Dimension 3000 and now the Internet is not working. Some background-- the installation disk I used came with a different model Dell computer that I no longer have. I didn't have an XP disk or any driver disks for the Dell Dimension 3000. I went and installed the following two drivers on the computer (which I downloaded to a disk from Dell's website on another computer) based on suggestions from other forums but it's still not working: the Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility and the Intel (R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection. When I go to device manager, under other devices there are yellow question marks next to "Ethernet Controller" and "Multimedia Audio Controller." Note that my internet connection is a cable connection and the motorola modem is hooked up to a belkin 54g router. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem so I can get back on the Internet?

View 7 Replies View RelatedBoth cd-roms: LG cd-rom & Liteon cdrw have stopped reading disks. Both are plug/play, using xp drivers. They are recognized by explorer,no issues according to the device driver. Both spin up, but won't read disk. In win explorer, selecting the LG cd-rom produces a red X: E: is not accessible,incorrect function The Lite-on did the same thing, until I downloaded/installed the firmware from the mfg. Not it acts like it is at least looking at the disk, but it doesn't see anything. Is there anyway to re-install the xp drivers (remember I can't read a CD)? Do you think I could re-install the xp drivers

I've tried a couple of things that were recommended through another site.
1) I turned "SAFE MODE" on and the cd-rom worked fine but when I got out of safe it wound not fire up.
2) I uninstalled the cd-rom and let the computer reinstall it but that did'nt work either. Please any help you could give me would be great.
I decided to clear the dust out of the inside of my
computer tower today. After cleaning out all the dust, I turned on the
computer for the first time and I noticed the fan on the side had stopped
operating.
But I have a Nokia Tower/case if that is of any help to anyone. It's the
colourful fan on the side which has stopped working.
My USB devices were working fine untill I went to Windows Updates and downloaded all the latest updates. This is when all my problems started. Now when I plug in a USB device I get a balloon on my task bar stating that my "USB device is not recognizied". I have done all the troubleshooting. I have XP PRo with all the latest updates.

What happened was this: I loaned my computer to a freind and told him, "Don't install anything without checking with me first!" He did, for about half the stuff I took off after I got it back.And my alt-tab has stopped working. The thing is, it works fine for the other profile on the computer. I'm assuming the problem is a registry setting somewhere. I looked and compared but I couldn't find anything out of line. So now I'm at a loss. I know I missed something somewhere. Oh, and I'm using WinXP SP1 on a Compaq Presario 2100, which I update on a regular basis.(This is a loptop I use as a "loaner," not my good one with all my personal stuff on it, by the way. Maybe I should get a copy of Norton Ghost before loaning it out again.?

If I hit the preview button it works fine but when I wait for X amount of minutes for it to turn on it never does. View 3 Replies View Relatedmy keyboard got messed up and stopped working. When I was messing around with the back of the tower to try to fix it, I somehow killed my sound off too. Eventually, I got a new keyboard, but after adjusting with the stuff on the back of the computer tower the sound still didn't work.
Since my sister's computer specs and mine are the same, I checked out the device manager on both of the PCs to see what was missing from mine. I found out that it was a "Realtek AC'97 Audio" listing. So of course, I google it up and download what I find. However, after installing it, it still doesn't work. It doesn't even show in the device manager! And to make matters more confusing, when I start up my computer, it says that I can press Shift+F10 to configure it. When I do that, a DOS-like menu pops up where I can change a few options but nothing I change will get the sound working.
When I go to Accessories --> Entertainment --> Volume Control, it says that there are no active mixer devices available.
I don't think it's related to viruses or spyware. I've scanned multiple times with TuneUp, Spybot, Ad-aware, Norton, and a few other programs.HiJackThis information:

The sound on my PC stopped working about a week ago. Hadn't installed anything in at least the few weeks before it stopped.
I decided to re format the PC a few days later thinking that it would be fine, which initially it was, am running XP professional. Windows did all its updates as per normal and the sound stopped again.
Reinstalled the PC yet again to try and get to the bottom of things and this time went through things a bit more slowly. Did it's first lot of updates, was fine after those. That was yesterday that they updated. Tonight installed Service Pack 2 and thats when it has stopped.
In the Sound and Audio Devices section of the Control Panel it is saying there is no audio device installed, yet I had installed it via the CD that came with the motherboard. Soundmax sound on an ASUS k8v SE deluxe motherbord. why something like this may have happened?
I downloaded Diskeeper 2007 Pro Premier for a free 30 day trial, decided I didn't want it, uninstalled it and now my XP Pro Defrag has ceased to work any longer.
I get some weird message that it can't initialize and that I must have downloaded a different version .
guess the two were fighting each other.
Point is, can I download MS Defrag as a stand alone (Googled but no luck) or do I have to reinstall XP all over again...
Also, is MS Defrag good enough are does Diskeeper do a better job for the averge home user?

I bought myself a LAN Cable.I plugged the LAN Cable into a single port router (one computer at a time) through an external Modem, and it worked great for about a month.
I tried to open a page, and a message said: Problem Loading Page. It had all the usual [U]ww.google.co.uk[U] and www.goggle.co.uk, but mine was correct. In the Taskbar (bottom right hand corner) it came up with an image two computers with yellow dots transferring between them, and then it changed to two computers with a caution sign. I hovered over it and it said: Limited or No Connectivity. So I did the obvious thing, checked cables were plugged in, unplugged cables, restarted modem, restarted computer e.t.c. but it still said Limited or No Connectivity. I went into Local Area Connection Status, and it said, Limited or No Connectivity...to renew IP Address, click "Repair". So I clicked repair, and it said could not renew IP Address, please contact Service Provider. I rang the service provider, and they said unplug everything plug it in and retry... This didn't work. Since then I’ve tried things I’ve seen on Forums, and on websites:

I was listening to the audio on my laptop through headphones. Today my audio just stopped working. The headphones belonged to my friend and I can't find mine so I can't to even test to see if it is the speakers. Does the computer think the headphones are still plugged in by chance?

it being that time of the month, I ran my data eraser and overwrote all available hard drive space. So whatever it was its gone.
Now my speakers don't work and the icon is missing.
I recently lost audio playback on my pc. It runs Windows XP and uses Creative SB Audigy Sound Device. It worked just fine until recently. I booted the pc up for the day and discovered no sound. Under "Device Manager" the device is listed as working properly with up-to-date driver. It is the only audio device that can be "un-installed" or "enabled/disabled" other than some "UniModem half duplex audio device" that is disabled. Under "sounds and audio device properties", "Audio Tab" the default playback device is listed as "modem line #3 playback". I tried to change the audio playback to the "Creative SB Audigy", but their is no other option than the "Modem #3 Line Playback". In the same, "Sounds and Audio Device Properties", under the "Volume" tab, it says "No Audio Device".

View 4 Replies View Relatedive got an epson 1000ics all in one printer using windows xp home. For some reason, the scanner stopped working. I used to scan using the camera and scanner wizard because the scan button on the printer never has worked. Now it shows the printer being an image scanner but there's no little arrow beside it. I don't think it's being recognized, but the printer works perfectly. The error says the install shield engine (ikernal.exe) could not be launched. the rpc server is unavailable.
