I have bought a second hand computer (Windows XP) and am unable to load any new programs onto the computer as I don't know the administrator's user name/password.how I can delete or over-ride the administrator's account/rights.

This time I decided to try and restore policies and get rid of the virus by hand... but I couldn't find a guide telling how to get these policies back! Has anyone created a guide or done this before? I figure if the rights can be taken away, they surely can be given back.

Please see system admin to install realplayer." I tried checking the install and uninstall file to make sure the read is unchecked, I looked for previous versions of software to remove and In safe mode as Administrator and also created a new administrator and still cannot download software due to same issue. I rebooted and restarted the computer several times.

It would mean that they can connect anything to their laptop and install anything onto it. Using this account, I used to be able to install, uninstall etc. A week or so ago, I noticed that I was no longer able to uninstall anything using this account. The system kept saying that I needed to be logged on as admin.

When signing in to my or his account, we only get the wallpaper on the desktop with nothing else -- no task bar, no start, nothing to click on. For quite a while now, whenever my system tries to install the latest version of Win Media Player, most of the installation happens and then I get an error message saying the installation wasn't completed and that I must log on as administrator. The problem is that whenever I login as an administrator or even make a new user with administrator rights or assign an existing user as an administrator and login, the computer reaches the desktop and then restarts. Then it runs scandisk. After successfully running scandisk, it comes to the login screen and the moment I login, same thing repeats. However, if I change the administrator rights of another user to Guest or something, it works fine.

When I boot up, my desktop is blank except for the desktop background. In other words, no icons, no start menu, start up programs don’t load, etc. At one point, I got this error:
"Windows cannot find '/idlist, :400:2196,c:'. Make sure you typed the name correcttly, and then try again ..."
(I haven't been able to replicate this error, though. It showed up once.)
I recently downloaded "teakui" to remove email details on loggin page. I use Incredimail as my email programme, this is now not my default programme and it will not let me change it. It says "you need administrator or power user privileges in order to set it"

I have XP Home and am trying to delete some startup items using msconfig. Even tho my user account is the administrator account, it will not let me make any changes. My gilrfriends son messed up her Media Center computer and his father used F10 instead of system restore, but the files are still there. To prevent this from occurring again, my girlfriend asked me to password protect the computer. I set myself up as the adminstrator, since I build computers and have the most knowledge, but have only been using XP for the past 6 months. I've read that the account is now hidden and know how to access it from safe mode. When I set it up, it asked me if I wanted to protect the
files and folders, such as My Documents. Stupid me did this. Now even though I have set my girlfriend up with an adminstator account, I can't find a way to share or allow her to access those files, and all her pics are there. I also can't delete the admistrator account I made, even though it says that can be done through her adminstrator account, but there is no option there. I want to do two things. I want to unprotect the files and folders I made private, and I want to delete the adminstrator account I made. F10 restore or system restore won't even do this.
is it safe to delete my older profile named Administrator from System Properties Advanced tab>under User Profiles>Settings? as i already have a new administrator account. it all happened when my Pc crashed & i had to create a new administrator account.also i booted it twice so it created two additional folders-Administrator.username & Administrator . View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a problem that IBM or AT&T DSL cannot help me with. On my IBM R51e Laptop I have been getting denied administrator's rights. I bought this laptop on Ebay a couple of years ago and it was still under warranty. Running some of my programs, ie 'CompuPic'. I am denied access.
I have sent this PC to IBM about 3 times. It has been unsuccessful in getting this problems resolve, I have ran countless system restores on it to no avail. IBM said that this laptop was originally issued to a corporation and that I should contact who I had purchased it from.
I run across certain things that won't allow me to view (such as downloaded games) and I get a message saying
"There has been an unknown error! If you are running windows 2000, you may need a user with more privileges. Please contact your system administrator".
I do not have administrative rights on the computor at work. When I attempt to either download an update or do other simple tasks, I receive a message informing me I either must have administrative rights or to contact the assigned administrator. I really don't want to contact the IT guy because that department is short staffed. Is there any way I can add my name as an administrator?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a Texas Instrument TI- 84 Plus Silver Edition Graphic Calculator and when I tried to load the accompanying TI CONNECT software, my computer would only allow part of it to load. Actually the program loads it is when the program goes to "setup" that I receive an error message telling me that I am not an admistrator; therefore, cannot complete the setup. When all is send and done, there are some functions the calculator will perform but the major functions will not like loading anything to and from the computer to the calculator. When I use the Screen Capture function it will do so, indicating that the two are communciating. Other processes will not function however.

2. My Control panel is not accessible.

4. Also printer.exe is infected with TROJAN.KillAV but symantac successfully deleted it.
