I just cleaned the internal components of my computer and I want to know, what should I use to clean/Wipe the power supply case and the entire computer case? I just installed a second HD into my computer and attatched the IDE cable. Is this normal?: I heard a slight scraping noise as I inserted the HD into the bay.The problem is that the power cable is too short and couldn't plug it in.Is there a way to extend the power cord? It's only about <5cm too short.I have a eMachines tower/desktop case by the way.I was sweating alot since it was warm in the room. I had to wipe my sweat often. And I touched the power supply case every time I wiped my sweat, sometime one hand, other times both hands, for a few seconds, to ground myself. I handled the HDs by the edges. Is it possible that I have damaged the HD by static or sweat? How do I know if I did damage the HD? It's working right now.

i have an Acer aspire 5630 laptop, running windows xp media edtion. It has a 110 GB hard drive which Acer partitioned in 3 parts. The first one im not concerned about its almost 5 GB and called PQ service (EISA configuration. the other 2 are just over 53 GB one has my xp the other was formatted to NTFS, I found I could delete the partition and then from command from extend the main partition typing diskpart, list volume, select the volume i want to extend by typing select volume 1 or whatever then type extend with the amount or if i leave it blank it should extend the partition to the full drive. but when i type extend I get the following message. Diskpart failed to extend the volume. please make sure the volume is valid for extending. And i desperately need the extra space.
Desktop Manager allows you to switch between multiple desktops creating more elbow room for those who like to stay organized while pushing the max thread limit.1. First grab XP PowerToys from microsoft.com Once installed right click then check: task bar > toolbars > Desktop ManagerYou may now view up to four new desktops. I prefer not to have "Shared Desktops" on as it reminds me more of linux (and is cleaner). Now you may hide the buttons etc. and use Windows key + 1-4 to switch between desktops and Windows key + v to preview.
I'm running WinXP pro and have lost all the reguler power schemes from the power options propreties window. My PC has old configuration, the Max Power Supply can be only up to 350W. You know that every parts of the PC, either external or internal hardware will consume power. What I would like to know is that, what would happen to my PC if the total power consumption exceeds the MAXIMUM VALUE of the power supply unit.

I moved a hd (with xp, programs, settings, etc) from my old pc to a new one that already has xp pro. This old hd is going to be used for archiving only, but it has a lot of files, xp os and settings that I want to get rid off. How to accomplish it? Cleaning the whole stuff isn't the case as some files/programs will be kept as is.
I want to ask how I am suppose to blow the inside components of my pc using compressed air, because wouldn't the dust go in the pc even more when I blow it? How am I suppose to blow it out? Blow behind the dust so the air would repel and blow it out?
Is this a good method for ESD precautions (without a gounding strap): - Not working on a carpet - Not wearing footwear - Working on a wooden table - Touch the back of the computer before opening it - Touch the Metal Case of the Power Supply (inside) frequently while the computer is open - Not moving on the floor too much

I have several registry cleaning tools on my PC like registry mechanic,WinASO registry Optimizer and those included in my programs ASMW PC-Optimizer,Tune-up utilities and WinTools.net Professional. One thing I am puzzled is that all the registry cleaning tools have found certain problems when I run one after another.Once i completed my registry scan using all above tools and fix all problems,I can't understand why a number of registry problems still exist the next day.I did not carry out any important task other than just spend the most 1 hr of web surfing. Recommend a more powerful registry cleaning tool to curb such problem.

I have Windows xp Home. How many times should I clean out the registry? I have done a lot of cleaning of files and registry entries in the past but do not know what would be a acceptible limit for a guy who uses his pc everday most of the day. I like it fast I have 2 gigs of ram and use an dsl connect and a Intel App acclelerator. Sometomes wierd things happen like my floppy disk will run for a split second after I am on the pc for about 30 min. then stop and my pc will not always boot up and say that an improper frequency has happened. After I re-boot all is well. This does not happen all the time.
