I'm using Windows XP, SP2 I can handle inserting special characters from the Character Map up to #256 using Alt + Keypad.I can't handle Unicode Characters above 256.The specific character I need is Greek Lambda [lower].The unicode is 03BB.
1) Help me extract this character into eMail, or 2) Help me learn how to extract ANY characte expressed in Unicode.
Messed up my pc big time. OS is Windows XP Professional. I was cleaning up the pc removing some software. When I rebooted, all the text on the OS shows up in unprintable characters. Text below icons, text in start menu, text on explorer, just about everything. Am using another pc to post this. Here are some screen shots (hope they show up):http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/8853/badscreen1yl7.jpg http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/9126/badscreen2fp3.jpg
I have been using an XP machine for 3 years now. I have always used the character map to use special characters such as the squared symbol in almost every application that accepts input, i.e, notepad, wordpad, OutLook Xpress and many others. Up until about a week ago, I have not been able to key in the ubiquitous alt+0178 to get the character I want. It comes out as another character or just a bunch of dots. I have not; to he best of my knowledge, changend anything, ans also it is my production machine, so there are no others or kids on it at all. However, I am able to open character map and selcet, copy and paste it into my document. Way too many steps obviously.
I am hoping someone can help! I did some disk cleanup and in add/remove programs, I deleted programs that, according to add/remove, had not been used in a few years and were taking up space. I did this b/c my PC was running super slow. (if anyone has advice for this ailment I will welcome all responses)Anyway, I inadvertently deleted my calculator, character map and iexplore.exe. I found a free download for calculator, but the other two apps I am at a loss for. I have searched for the files and looked under "all programs" and cannot find either one.
Does anyone know if there is a character limit for the HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesSystemLegalNoticeText value. We have a very long legal notice that is being truncated. The messagedoes include commas.
I'm trying to copy a partition of my hard drive over to an external drive so that I can format that drive and delete the partition.
I've run into a file that I cannot copy, move, rename, The file originally had the character in it, but I think sometime in one of the transfers of the file, it lost the character and it got replaced with an upside-down "T". This file was saved in different versions under the same name in two different folders and the same errors have occurred with both"
"Cannot copy file: Cannot read from the source file or disk" and in DOS:"The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect."
I understand if you go to start-all programs-accessories-system tools there is suppose to be something there called a character map so you can use different symbols. In my system tools on windows xp I have nothing called character map.
How does one go about creating a "space (punctuation)" character using an Alt and/or Unicode to be show on all adobe flash player related products & in general for Windows OS?
My girlfriend's been having problems with her computer, a problem I know I'd encountered once in the past, but cannot recall how to remedy it now. Character map is required to enter text, the keyboard is non-functional, and the computer beeps constantly, though nothing is pressing on any key to cause this to happen. No new programs or hardware has been installed, and device conflicts have been checked for and are non-present. She has unplugged the keyboard and rebooted, but upon reboot it registers as there and no problems are seen.
I'm in the process of backing up a lot of DVD files, some of which are very large. First I extract the information from one DVD, then burn it onto a new one. After I'm done filling up a new DVD, I then delete all the information from my computer. In all, I'll end up with around 50 DVDs. In case I have to do System Restore sometime, I've been creating a new restore point after completing around five DVDs so my computer, if in that situation, won't have to restore a lot of files I don't need anymore. This is creating a lot of restore points and my question is: am I doing the right thing? Will creating all these restore points cause some sort of problem?
I got a HP a year or two ago and it doesnt have any recovery CD's but a recovery partition on the hard drive. Everytime I recover my system it recovers the OS with all of the junk trial software. I'm just wondering if there is anyway to extract just XP from that partition so that next time I have to recover I don't have to spend hours uninstalling and deleting all that junk. That partition is filled up with over 6gb of of stuff...XP fits on a cingle CD so you can imagine how much crap I have to put up with.

I am trying to extract a folder and it's contents from a Windows backup I performed several months ago. For example, I created a specific folder that for some reason no longer exists in My Documents. I have tried applications that allow me to "Undelete" what may have been sent to the Recycle Bin but these did not help. I am confident this folder and it's files are on the backup.bkf.I have also tried shareware backup applications, but they all seem to RESTORE corrupt files? Is there any application that would allow me to see what folders are on the backup.bkf? In running the Windows Backup Wizard, all I can see is a file called System State, but no option to expand the backup to see what files and folders exist.
My desktop came with 8 recovery cds but these do not work very well. Is there a simple or not so simple) way to get the operating system started from the recovery CDs.
I just got a new computer with WinXPHome. All works OK except I can not receive my email into OE 6, all email stays with AT&T's Webmail, which I do not want to use. My old Win98 computer has no problems with getting my email. The settings on both computers are the same. I have disabled NAV email scanning. I have no idea what to do. I like OE, and want to continue using it.
I was just at a site where i wanted to enter a competition, and therefore had to send an email.I clicked on the 'send email' link, i received this message: you need to create an account before proceeding, would you like to create one now?'I clicked on 'yes' and was asked, 'what type of account would you like to create?' the choices being: regular email[pop]IMAP,news, import email opera web email[ i use the opera browser. The only one of those that i understand is the opera choice, so i clicked on that. That took me to my opera email account, i thought, fine.however, there was no sign of the email address that i need to be able to send them a message.now i'm sure you've come across this yourselves, it crops up for me every so often, when it does, it puts me off whatever i was trying to do, and i give up.what should i do? what does regular email[pop] mean?should i click on these other choices?why, when i click opera, am i not given the email address?

I have been getting some very nice emails on Yahoo mail. They are supposed to have sound. I have sound on everything else on my computer. I have Windows XP Pro installed. I also have Stopzilla, Spyware Blaster, and Spybot. Would the problem have something to do with one of the blockers? And if so, how do I fix it? You can tell everyone that uses the computer does not like popupads. And we surely don't want to be infected with viruses and all that other bad stuff.
I want to set up another email account for my mother in law on my wife's computer. I have 8 addresses so that is not an issue. I am just wondering if I should set up an additional profile on her Windows XP Home computer or if there is someway to use the same outlook express? I want it to be a clean and easy as possible.
I have a laptop and a PC that share one email address through Outlook. Is there a way to answer or file, or delete received emails on one computer and have that action done on the other computer? I end up having to repeat the deletions, especially, twice --- once on each computer.
I'm useing windows XP professional. I mistakenly downloaded a virus through my email. i found the virus and deleted it. i'm not sure if the virus is the cause of my problem but i can no longer print from my email or off the internet. The printer is a HP officejet 6110 all-in-one.
