I have this piece of equipment and even tho it's been discontinued, I found some information about this in the cnet.com archives. What I want to do is just easily hook up two computers (I also have the option to do this via USB cable), get them to see each other without setting up a true network, and transfer files back and forth. According to what I've read about this equipment no software installation is required nor is an operating system required. Will this equipment do what I want or is a workgroup network setup actually going to be required? I don't want to have to buy a separate USB cable that has the correct USB normal connections at both ends since most of what I have here already only has a USB connector at one end with another type (for a printer or firewire) connection at the other end and the second computer doesn't have firewire available.

I have just got a phone plug in my room so I do not have to use my USB adaptor for my wireless broadband as it keeps losing the signal. I now have the router in my room using the Ethernet hole on my new MSI K8T Neo2-F V2.0 Motherboard, but every time I try and download a file it is corrupted. I have tried many different file just in case it was that. This did not work so I tried using my USB adopter and every thing downloads fine again. The driver for it is Realtek rtl8169/8110 family GIGABIT ETHERNET NIC and this is the web site for the motherboard nhttp://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3318077&CatId=15

the colors in my Security Center have changed. First I thought it was a problen with the windowblinds skin I was using but I don't think it is. Could it be the WB program itself? I didn't have this problem (fresh OS install) until after I installed a few things, WB, avast, zonealarm, and uninstalled antivis.

While building up a new computer I go into Security Center to make some configuration changes. The resource "Change the way Security Center alerts me" is available at this time. Some time later during the building process I go back into Security Center and find that resource is no longer available. It is greyed out.

Wondering which versions of XP can Access which other versions of XP.Specifically, can media center edition access media center edition , or do one or both OS's have to be XP PRO. My understanding is that XP Home cannot access or be accessed via Remote Access.

I bought a NC100U-WM Network card from Walmart and got everything working I think, except that while the box says that it is compatible with XP, the floppy doesn't have anything on it that would correspond to XP ... anyway, it looks like its working ok, all the lights light up - but the connection won't go anywhere except the centurytel diagnostics page.
I hooked earthlink back up and googled this card and seems like there is a lot of trouble with the drivers not being compatible with XP pro.... does anyone know a workaround - or should I take this back to Walmart ... and if so, what do I buy to work with DSL for century-tel - my computer didn't have an ethernet card on it

Am in the process of applying for Predator DSL service in place of my dialup service. One of the questions that is asked is "Does your computer have a
10/100 Ethernet card?" I can't answer that question because I really don't know. I checked for this info on the computer but can't find any info referring to an Ethernet card.

my mother discovered the internet 1 year ago and now she's addicted to it and is going crazy without it! My sister unplugged her Dell PC, to move it, and for some reason the computer now isn't reading the Westell Modem for the internet. Called the ATT ISP and we figured out it wasn't the ethernet cable, instead, its the PC which just isnt reading the ethernet to get on the internet. When I did IPCONFIG the IP Address doesn't show up. This is basically what it says: c:Documents and SettingsDiana Cresswell>ipconfig.........

Someone reinstalled Windows XP on my son's computer, and now it is not working properly, so I am trying to help get it fixed. I have limited experience with this sort of thing. The specs on the computer are as follows: Acer Aspire 5050-3371 AMD Turion 64 Mobile Technology MK-36 (2.0 Ghz 512 KB L2 cache) It will not connect to the internet, and when you check the Device Manager, it gives a yellow question mark under "Other devices". The other devices that have question marks

required the reloading of Windows XP professional on my factory-loaded laptop. I didn't have the CD, so I went to a shop and they did it. Since then, I've been getting this "new hardware" balloon when I start up, and it asks for file "el90Xbc5.SYS on ECD541DP90X". It asks for dwinxplan to load it from. Being CD'less, I've just cancelled it before. Now I'd like to work out how to deal with it can I get this file from somewhere

I'm writing this from my work computer, because I've totally messed up my Dell Dimension 8250 running XP Pro).I combined my dual OS computer into only one large partition and Fdisked(wiped out my OS(s) on my primary hard drive, in an attempt to reinstall on XP OS for my computer. To make a long story as short as I can, I removed(Fdisk) and "clean installed" my XP Pro OS from Dell's XP installation disk on my unpartitioned primary hard drive, But I can NOT connect to my ISP or the internet because I lost the driver CD and can't connect to the internet to download and install then.

When I plug an ethernet wire from a router to the ethernet port on my computer, nothing seems to happen. There is no LAN option under my "network connections" either. My first guess is that I don't have the correct driver installed (or if I have one at all for the ethernet). Can anyone help me? I tried to open up the computer to see the brand of the Ethernet card but Some of the screws were stuck and I couldn't seem to open it. It is a Laptop running Windows XP by the way. I bought it at cyberpowerpc.com.

I recently was reinstalling windows xp pro . after the fresh install i tried to connect to the internet nothing happened. went to the device manager and apparently the the PC wasn't reading the ethernet controller. so i went home to the dell support to download the necessary drivers needed. i even called dell to make sure i was doing the right thing. needless to say it still does not work... i opened up the CPU to try and find the actual name of the ethernet card and could not. there was a small metal box where you put the ethernet cable into. i did not see a card, yet i know there is one. sorry if I'm confusing. its a dell 8300 with no service code or service tag on it. i check inside and out
