Cannot Access The Windows Management Instrumentation Software
Dec 8, 2008
I was unable to obtain system information for my XP SP2 Compaq Computer. It says "can't collect information". "Cannot access the Windows management instrumentation software." "Windows management files may be moved or missing." Checking the service shows it as start automatic, but it is stopped? Try to start it manually and I get the following error"Could not start windows management instrumentation service on local computer, error 999,error performing in page operation". How can I reload what ever is missing or turned off. I tried the Microsoft web site but could not find the exact problem I am having.
"Cannot access the Windows Management Instrumentation Software. Windows management files may be moved or missing" This is the error that i get when accessing system information built into the system tools.
when i try to access the windows management files.I get a typed responce: files may be moved or missing. Also when i run a system detect it hanges on 8%.and give me a message that %1 is not a valid win 32 application
I am running xp home >sp2> dell mod4600>version 2002>256mb,ram
how do i access these files or replace them if they are missing.
Computer handed to me for problem fixing (here fix) - had a virus of some kind (unknown) someone else tried to resolve unsuccessfully.Windows XP SP2 (HP Pavilion Media Center Pc I've started to investigate...Windows installer problem unable to load / unload some programs.Specifically as a test I'm tryin gto remove Windows Defender from the Add/Remove programs - unsuccessful get message...The Windows installer Service could not be accessed.
Whenever I try to get to the add/remove windows components menu in add/remove programs, it gives me this error message:Setup was unable to open information file comnt5.inf.Contact your system administrator. The specific error code is 0x2 at line 2088999411.The application could not be initialized.
I'd like help please. When I try to install windows installer 3.1, it fails about half way through. I get an error msg saying "access denied", and it aborts completely.I'm not sure that matters for windows installer itself, but until I successfully install that, I dont' think I'm getting access to any other windows updates I DO need.
Everytime, when I try to update my java, mcacfee, or my HP, I get this message that says cannot access windows updating system, please contact administrator I dont know what this means, or how to fix it. When I go under services, it shows updater there, and running, and the settings are on manual. I also went to microsoft and tried to download the installer 3.1, and that seemed to have went through, but I'm having the same problem. Also when I go to microsoft, and try to do their troubleshooting, It wont let me get some files which I cannot remember to get to. msexic/restart..something like that...
When I double click on the icon I am getting the following error message "Windows cannot access the pecified device, path or file. you may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item".
about 2 weeks ago my computer updated (through microsoft updates i presume) from windows xp home to xp pro service pack three since then i have not been able to access my firewall or windows defender and my audio device (realtek ac97)has gone even though it was in add/ remove programs was directed to unistall and reinstall have tried downloading new audio driver from realtek it downloads then when start installation wizard it gets half way through then just stops?
I had a system crash after installing drivers for a d-link wireless card (PCI). In the system that the crash occured on I had 2 Harddrives: one Maxtor SATA 200GB, and one Maxtor IDE 160GB. I used the 200GB for windows and my documents, and I used the 160GB for PS2 game backup ISO's and media files. The crash involved a BSOD when trying to load windows, and it reset many of my BIOS settings. It also corrupted my 200GB hard drive, but did'nt harm the 160GB one. I have since changed back the BIOS settings, and I installed XP onto the 160GB hard drive, in order to salvage the damaged one. at first the damaged one wouldnt open saying "Drive G is corrupt and unreadable". I then ran chkdsk and it fixed tons of errors so that I can now browse the HDD, but it still wont boot windows off of it, giving me another BSOD.
What I really need is the files in the "My Documents" folder on my 200GB HDD, the one that was corrupted and repaired. HERE IS THE PROBLEM: I had the folder made private on my old windows installation, and not password protected. when I try to get in now I get "access denied" errors because of that. I NEED to get in there in order to take the important stuff out and put it on the 160GB hard drive. afterwards I will go about trying to fix the windows installation on that drive. I appreciate all of your help ahead of time, but I do ask one thing: please don't give me help with the crash, restoring windows, or those issues, I will deal with them myself, all I need is a way to get into a private folder on one hard drive that doesnt have windows, from another hard drive that does.
I have recently done a clean Windows XP Install followed by installing Service Pack 1 then 3.Everything was running smoothly and I was able to log into the desktop. However when I tried to check for updates via Windows update, in Internet explorer however it always says the 'Internet Explorer cannot display this webpage'After diagnosing the issue, it found no problems.I can browse any other website but sometimes when I click on an item through doing a google search, it sometimes sends me to a random search engine page!!
Control Panel-->Administrative Tools-->Computer Management-->Disk Management, I have 3 HDs: C, F, G I see them in the board as healthy.C with the XP in it says [System]. F says [Active].G says nothing, just [Healthy]Major problem is that in the board also see another HD which I do not have Title of this HD is [Missing] with a red X on it and the description is [Failed].Its in the same size with F so I think its some problem from the time I tried set this disk as primary in order to put xp in it (its a sata on an A8V Deluxe which requires f6 etc etc).So... may i choose delete this fake disk?PS. I use no partitions, just whole disks. Board says me that C & F are Basic type. G and [missing] are Dynamic.
I was having trouble with installing flash for chrome. It always reads the wrong disk because I put in a new HD.My main one is F:/, but flash tries to install on C:I tried to change the drive letter but disk management "fails to initialize" and thus won't start. I tried MS's solution (regsvr32 c:winntsystem32dmdskmgr.dll) but I get an error LoadLibrary("c:winntsystem32dmdskmgr.dll") failed - The specified module could not be found.
When I try to reactivate this one drive I get an error:INTERNAL Error - The disk group contains no valid configuration copies (C10000B6).As I understand, something happened to LDM on that disk.I know, the disk itself is good, the data is there..And I know it is possible to restore that information... only with Microsoft help or help of the professional or enthusiast who knows this subject.
I'm testing XP2 on a lab at my office network.I have added program exceptions for c:windowssystem32dmremote.exe:*:enabled and I've also added port exceptions for ports 135 and 445 and I'm still unable to use Disk Manager to manage remote computer.I keep getting the following message: The Disk Management console failed to conect to the remote computer because the Disk Management remoting sevices is not in the Windows Firewall exception list. Add the Disk Management remoting service (dmremote.exe) to the Windows Firewall exception list and try again.
Windows won't let me partition it from disk management. I'm at lost here. I'm trying to start fresh with a new install of win xp. Got to the setup part where i choose which parition to use, but it says I can't delete the partition because there are necessary files needed on it etc. etc... So I get a win98 boot disk to try to manually format and get to the A: prompt, and it wont recognize my C:
I have a PC that I just disinfected from a sheeetload of infections. I can access one user account but the ones that were available before the infection do not come up when trying to log into this PC. In the user account management consol I can see the accounts and they are enabled. But I cannot log into them... What am I missing?
how to reduce the programmes that automatically open up on my start-up menu?Because they are slowing me down, but I need to know how to ensure I don't end up deinstalling programmes that I need to keep on the start-up.I don't just want to go into add/remove until I know how to ensure I don't actuall lose any of the programmes.
System crashed last night with a Kernel Stack Inpage Error, but restarted fine ... while diagnosing, I tried to get in to Disk Management through Admin Tools/Computer Management, and received the error, "Unable to connect to Logical Disk Manager service". I checked, and the service was disabled (why?), so I set it for manual and restarted it, still received the error.Oddly, I was able to start it from a command prompt, which then allowed it to start from Admin Tools. What just happened here? Is that service normally disabled? If not, what would cause it to become disabled? Could a virus, worm, or rootkit have snuck in?
I using XP pro C drive 4gigs and F drive 9gigs on a 13gig HD. I want to combine the c and F drive to give me more disk space on the c drive. Or how do I get everything to down load to the F drive and use my c drive just for the operating system.
When I look at the XP Dish management window, I see an unnamed 5Gb section to the left of C and D drives. It is subtitled (EISA configuration), what is this for? Also the XP help says that there should be a FREE SPACE optoin on the rt-clk menu of the lofical drives. I only see delete. Am I looking at the wrong place? (reason: I would like to create a new logcal drive.
I was looking many replies, but could not find any about this topic, I'm facing the following problem: I would like to have my Disk space (750GB) subdivided to accomplish the following:
1 - Boot Windows XP Prof SP2 x86 2 - Boot Windows XP Prof SP2 x64 3 - Store my Data Folders and Files separately (to do Backups from one place). 4 - Boot to Ubuntu 7.10 and alternatively 5 - Boot to Ubuntu Server 6 - Create System Backups for my Laptop (6.1), old PC (6.2) and for this new PC (6.3).
This is my wife's Lenovo T61 and I've posted this in the laptop forums. While attempting to prep for a larger hard drive, I noticed that Disk management isn't showing any HD partitions. It does show the CD ROM device. It will not display USB external hard drive partitions but will display USB CD ROM devices. Device manager and explorer will display hard drives/partitions just fine. At this same time, I found that a scheduled chkdsk /f will not run. The PC just boots normally. Defrag will not run either. I was able to run sfc /scannow plus the Lenovo "disk doctor" utility and nothing is reported to be amiss. Another broken item was system restore. It was enabled but no restore points were available.
When I go to Disk Management, my hard drives are not listed. They are visable in My Computer. Nothing is listed except my DVD drive. The reason I was in Disk Management in the first place, I plugged in my backup external drive (500GB Seagate FreeAgent Desktop) and it did not show up in My Computer, so I thought it was a drive letter assignment issue. So I go to Disk Managment and none of my hard drives are listed!
My custom settings in power management seem to have reset to default(monitor power off after 15 min, etc.). I set them to my own settings but after I restart my computer the settings go back to default. Does anyone know why this might happen? Could it be that I deleted a windows registry key?
Recently my laptop (windows XP home edition) had been having problem with Microsoft Management Console. When I double click on mmc.exe nothing happen and there is also no error message. Because of this I can't start any of the *.msc files Under Administrative tools (Control Panel) Component Services - comexp.msc Computer Management - compmgmt.msc Event Viewer - eventvwr.msc Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Configuration - mscorcfg.msc Performance - perfmon.msc Servicesm - services.msc Other .msc command : that open with Microsoft management certmgr.msc ciadv.msc devmgmt.msc dfrg.msc diskmgmt.msc fsmgmt.msc lusrmgr.msc ntmsmgr.msc ntmsoprq.msc wmimgmt.msc adsiedit.msc sidwalk.msc fpmmc.msc comexp.msc
I had to reinstall XP and computer runs very slow on boot. Under device manager, there was an exclamation beside "Microsoft System Management Bios Driver". Iwent to a help site and it said to just unistall it.
When I run DEVMGMT.MSC or SERVICES.MSC they pop up for a second and auto close. No problem opening REGEDIT. I ran sfc /scannow successfully without it solving the issue. Can anyone suggest a solution?
