When I go to change my computers Theme or Visual Style, I get an error that says "Run dll as an app" needs to close, and then nothing happens. Any clue which XP file is missing from my PC? Is there a software dowload that can tell me what XP files I may be missing?
View 3 RepliesI am looking for some good XP themes and visual styles. I would perfer to find one that resembles a lot like vista which I just downgraded from due to being unstable for games. I really liked the looks of vista and I already searched for some but I have't found any that I thought was good nor resembled vista. Please help me or direct me or tell me your favorite.

i can change visual style to windows classic but when press apply and ok nothing changes.
My daughter has a Dell XPS M1210 laptop running Windows XP Media Center Edition. She got fooled by PSGuard and thought she was downloading antispyware software after a warning came on her screen. She ended up with the TrojanDownloder.xs and the SmitFraud problem. With a lot of assistance from past posts I was able to I think delete most of the problems. But I still can't change her theme or desktop background. I got rid of the "you have spyware and need to download spyware removal software" backgroun by now the screen is blue or a solid color and nothing else.

Is there any website that lets you download files to change the appearance of Windows XP without installing an extra program such as Window Blinds? I tried restoring luna theme to no avail. Ran malwarebytes and nothing came up. Any thoughts? I just want to get the original XP theme back.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI just installed Visual Studio 2005 on my machine. and i've started getting this machine check exception error. the full error is 0x0000009c (0x00000004, 0x805461f0, 0xb2000000, 0x00070f0f). I also tried booting in safe mode to uninstall Visual Studio and i can't because it says it is missing files. I'm not sure what to do at this point Anyway every time i boot the machine a few minutes after it gets into windows i get this stop error. Before it blue screens though ALL of my anti-virus/anti-spyware stuff goes haywire, as in it won't load or it is suddenly missing virus definition files?? I have NOD32, avast, spysweeper and comodo firewall running. I also run adaware but that isn't set to load at startup. I'm not sure if it was the software install that did it because i've been having issues with my video card also. where it will say nvidia sentinel thinks the video card isn't getting enough power and will then spam me with that message. I tried up dating the drivers but they were uptodate. Card is a Geforce7900. All the rest of my computer specs should be under my profile. I think i'll have to update the video card info though.

I ran setup.exe to install Visual Studio 6.0 using DVD. It crashed. I thought DVD is bad or corrupted and used some other CD. Still Visual Studio6.0 installation wizard is crashing. When it crashed, a dialog box comes upand asks whether I can send report to Microsoft or debug. I sent report to Microsoft. Nothing happend more than that. I tried to debug using visualstudio .net. It gives the following error message.
Basically i did a hjt log fix and cleanup, and i used all those programs and now i only have the classic windows xp look and i dont know what files to get off teh cd for the windows xp look.

I'm on a machine using Windows XP and Word 2007.
I've created a ToC using TOC1, TOC2 and TOC3. I can modify the styles in either/both the TOC itself or in the text of the document, but I want them to be different from each other.
For example, in the text of the document I want TOC1 to be 12 pt font with 12pt above paragraph formatting. In the TOC itself, I want TOC1 to be 10 pt font with 4 pt above. Does anyone know how to make the style appear differently in the two different locations?
I went to the Windows update site last night for the lastest security updates for XP, and after installing them the colors and size of my taskbar and toolbars have changed! They are much more narrow than before and all are a dark grey. Even pop-up boxes are the same color. I've gone into properties but can't seem to make it the old blue color again.

View 4 Replies View RelatedSomehow my daughter has gotten several of the Asian fonts on her computer. In Wordpad and WordPerfect they come up at the beginning of her font list as Arial Unicode MS, @MingLui, @NSimSun, @PMingLui and @SimSun. I have tried deleting them but they are write-protected.When you go to the font list the fonts are all there but many of them are invisible. I have tried uninstalling Office and reinstalling it but to no avail. I uninstalled it tonight but figured I would try and solve the deletion problem before reinstalling - in case they are connected.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI had a botched setup of Visual C++ 6.0 a few weeks ago. Apparentlythere are still traces on my system. Whenever a user logs in Windowscomplains it can't find a visual C++ file. Spybot also catches it trying to change the registry. I have tried everything I can think of and cannnot remove whatever is left of it. I've deleted every file and registry entry assosicated with VC++ 6, checked msconfig, startup folders, and even ran a registry cleaner. Still cannot find where this pest is hiding.

I have tried google.com to find it, but the only thing that shows up is pirated copies. I am running a legit XP and am confused on how to download this theme, or is the Black Edition a whole different version of XP that I have to buy?

Every time I visit a website that offers themes or whatnot, it seems theres ALWAYS viruses, spyware, or adaware involved.
Cannot access msconfig.exe even though I am logged on as the administrator, just get the following message. "An access denied error was returned while attempting to change a service you may need to log on using an administrator account to make the specified changes" Have tried system restore three times to different dates and after each bootup I get the message after logging in "cannot restore to 26th DEC" or whatever other date I tried. Have also done a search for msconfig.exe and the only exe file is in the path C:WindowsPrefetch under the name MSCONFIG.EXE-35E4DAE9.pf. Am sure the correct file should me in a windows system folder but don't seem to be there.
