i have a really annoying problem. my computer works fine but when left for a hour the screen goes black and the monitor revives no signal. the only way to get it back on is to switch the power button on and off. then windows says it was shut down wrongly and i have to go through a process of safe mode then start normally and las known config. there is no screen saver set and its windows xp pro any ideas before i chuck it out of the window
I've recently purchased an HP G50 laptop, and decided to wipe off Vista and install XP - I did this with a few laptops before, no problem. However this laptop is proving to be a real headache. It won't boot from the Windows XP install CD at all The furthest I get is at the "Press any key to boot from CD" prompt, then the screen stays black. I booted without the hard drive to see if this was causing the issue, but the problem persisted. The CD had no problem booting on 4 other machines. I tried a different CD and that didn't make the problem go away. The laptop will boot any Linux install/live cd I shoot at it, yet it refuses to boot the Windows XP install CD.
I start up my laptop with the screen closed. When I open the screen I see the XP login screen for a second and then the computer goes black. I can't do anything else.I have Windows XP Home with the service pack 2 (I regret installing it).I never had any problems before. If you know how to fix this let me know.
2. The XP screen with the scrolling lights appears
3. The screen becomes black and the cursor appears. The cursor can be moved all over the place just like normal, but there is nothing else visible.
4. After a long period (minutes), the screen becomes blue (dark band at top and bottom) and displays the Windows XP logo. XP infomrs me that "Windows is starting up". The cursor shows a CD next to it. This is as far as I've gotten.
My other laptop will not start up at all. I have Windows XP. When I turn it on, this message displays on a black screen:Windows could not start because the following file is missing or currupt:system32DRIVERSisapnp.sysYou can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM.
I had put my pc off with the on/off button, because I was in a hurry. Later when I tried to open it, it shows the BIOS screen and than nothing happens it just turns black and thats it. And it goes off when I put my finger slowly on the on/off button.
i had a computer which had a pretty bad visus on it. i think i got the virus out but now it wont start.I tried to do a repair of windows with what i thought was the disc for the pc, turns out it was a different xp version than the one on the pc. So how i have the original corrupted windows, and the repair version of xp on the machine. Both of which will not even run.Its really important that i get the data of the pc, that was the whole point of what i am doing. the computer starts, then said it didnt load, i choose how i want to start the pc, safe mode...etc and then it freezes.Sometimes it just goes straight to a black screen, and i can no longer get it to boot from the windows disc.

My main pc is stuck in a boot cycle giving me the black screen with options to start in safe mode etc etc and when selecting one of those options it reboots to the same point. When I press return the system tries to start it attempts it, clicks then goes back to boot cycle. The Windows XP system disk won't cut in like it should so I cannot gain control of the pc.
System is a Dell, 2years old and has had various viruses despite having the usual protection. I am currently using my old trusty Advent Pentium 3 for this message (which has never had the same degree of virus prob's curiously). After the first virus Dell talked me through using Ghost - brilliant. Within a couple of days it was hit again and usinng Spybot got rid of the virus but PC kept displaying the message rundll.dll file damaged. So I used XP Recovery seemingly with no problem only to find it won't reboot.
its my previously-formatted HP Pavilion dv5201tx! The problem is as the title above. I can go into safe mode. I've used system restore twice. And in Documents and Settings folder I noticed it has:
Administrator Administrator.computer description name Administrator.computer description name.000 username1 username2
Is it creating more user folders? At some point Administrator.computer description name.000 wasn't there. Corrupted registry hive? I'm not sure! Restarted many times, used Last known good configuration, and it's still black after the boot screen. Please help!
My laptop has started to freeze at times, then the screen would blackout then appear with a black screen with a blue box inthe middle giving BOOT DEVICE OPTIONS Hard Disk Drive, CD-ROM/DVD, Floppy Disk Drive, LAN Boot it froze blacked out and now keeps going to this option page ,where as before if you turn off then on it rectified itself.
when I turned on my computer and got the blue screen of death, so I restarted my PC. Then a black screen came up saying "Windows could not start beacuse the following file is missing or corrupt : windowssystem32configsystem."
You can attempt to repair this file by putting the winxp cd in etc...
Now when i turn on my computer there is just a black screen showing, with nothing at all on it.
i get this error when i tried to open up my computer, first the windows xp loading screen works fine, then after that the screen just goes black and stays like that forever. this happened when i tried to uninstall a USB Bluetooth driver and it was requested to restart my pc so i did, and after that restart i cant get in no more, the screen just goes black after the windows xp load screen. im wondering how can i fix this problem? please help me guys... thank you.. and o yeah one more thing.. when i tried it on safe mode it went to the welcome screen but after that when i try to move my cursor i didnt move at all then i restart my pc again and the whole thing happens once more
friend whose computer has crashed the screen had frozen. He could do nothing except reboot it using the power button but on rebooting, there was a 'no signal' message on a black screen. We have checked the monitor connections (the monitor works when connected to his second computer) and even replaced the video card but of course this made no difference (no signal) We've taken out the HD and installed it on his second system. Does this mean that the most likely cause now is the motherboard/bios or is there something wrong in our approach/deductions
My computer screen freezes up after a while, then turns into a blank light blue screen and then into a black screen. I have used regcure, PCMedkit, and PC Doc Pro I have also tried some of the online help for a fee but nothing seem to work. Lately when trying to reboot I got a blank red screen. I'm using xp pro and a Nvida GeForce 9400GT GRAPHICS CARD.
I have this strange problem:I can't see my Bios loading .The screen is totaly black untill the windows' welcome screen , and then everything is back to normal. It happened when I updated my motherboard Bios (Gigabyte GA-8N-SLI ,Rev. 1.0) through the original vendor's Website
The start of my problem is that I was receiving an error 'cannot initialize lsass.exe service'.After repairing XP SP2, the following is displayed every time that I boot:SAFE Mode - black screen with 'safe mode' in bottom corners of screen Windows Mode - blue screen. The mouse is responding. There are no icons. There is no text (except for 'safe mode' as above)CTRL/ALT/DEL does not display task manager.CTRL/ESCAPE does not display anything.Clicking on various parts of thescreen has no effect.I have replaced Explorer.exe from c:i386
my computer would give me a few problems while booting up. I would start the computer, it would run through BIOS, run through the Windows loading screen, and after that it would run the CHKDSK to make sure my disks are fine. CHKDSK doesn't work, it just freezes right before checking the disks, so I restart and generally it will boot up. Most of the time it would boot up perfectly, but rarely would it go to the xp loading screen and then flicker as if it as going to go to the windows login screen but wouldn't. The screen would just stay black and I'd have to restart.
Next time, generally it would work perfect. So this brings me to the current day. After the windows xp loading screen, it goes black. The computer is on, but I don't see any activity for the HDD via the LED. SO i go into safe mode, i finally get CHKDSK to run, I had to really mess with some stuff to get that working. Windows says the volume is fine, and the only way I can boot my PC is in safe mode, but even that will freeze sometimes while loading some of the files.
it all started when I ran Nod32 antivirus. I ran it because I had some viruses on my computer that I wanted to get rid of. After the scan there were 180 some detected objects that were quarantined or deleted. So then I restart my computer and after the windows xp logo there is just a black screen with no cursor. And after awhile the computer will just restart and try booting up again. I tried going into safe mode and safe mode with command prompt but I still get a black screen with no cursor. The last known good configuration doesn't work either. I'm pretty frustrated because I did nothing wrong. I am also having a feeling that nod32 might have quarantined some infected files that are essential for Windows Xp to boot. I also do not have any windows xp disks with me how to fix this?
whenever i start my dell laptop inspiron 6000 after the dell load a black screen appears with a white loading bar appears which loads for about 10 minutes and then the windows xp proffesional sp2 loads i had recently reinstalled windows from a cd can you please tell me how to get rid of this black loading screen
Was working fine this morning but this afternoon - Upon startup everything runs fine until after the windows splash screen everything goes black and the only thing visable is a cursor, but nothing to click, cannot ctrl=alt=del, cannot right click. Cannot enter safe mode at all, last good configuration doesn't work either. Computer is still running, fan whirring, lights flashing. Fan has been cleaned and power supply checked, no change. Cannot get into anything to run explorer or virus check. She is running Windows XP SP3. I'm unsure of when sp3 was installed. I understand this may be an issue, along with video and graphics drivers, display settings, corrupt registry, flat CMOS battery or loose internal connections.
when I first start the computer, windows hangs between the black windows logo screen and the first blue screen that says "windows is starting". I have to hit the reset button, it goes to the dos screen with the safe mode, etc. choices. I choose "start using last known good configuration" and I'm good to go. If I turn the computer off during the day and turn it back on, It works fine. It only hangs on the first start of the day.
when i take a screenshot and paste it to a word document, it comes out black. I do not know where the problem is, word or printscrn? how can i avoid that issue?
The machine does the usual, POST etc, does all its checks and then goes to boot from the HDD(HDD is indicated in BIOS etc). At this very stage (just before the WinXP splash Screen) the Screen (LCD) just goes black and does not ever recover. There is no error messages and the HDD LED blinks a couple more times then does nothing. LCD power light stays on green. I have to either turn it off via power button or do a restart with Ctrl,Alt + Del.
I have disconnected all peripherals except Video Card, HDD and still no luck. The only reason why i left the Video Card was that there is no onboard video and i had no other Video cards to replace it. I cant even boot into safe mode.I manage to resolve the problem by doing a WinXP repair over the top but what i really want to know is, was it a corrupt/damaged MBR that was causing this problem or was it a corrupt driver? I have read a few articles about nVidia cards giving black screens but none seem to be similiar to mine.
When ever i start up windows it get threw the Windows boot screen then whens it suppose to come to the logon screen i see only black for no matter how long i leave it on!, i can still move the mouse, and thats all that happens i have a operating system cd, and if i got to repair windows what config do i type?
I changed the screen resolution on my xp machine now all i get after the login screen is a black one.I have tried changing in safe mode but it does not change
I am trying various screencapture programs, but when I try to select an area of the screen to capture, all I get is a black 'box' of the are where I snap'd -
I have a Dell Latitude D400 laptop. After reloading windows I get the Windows startup screen and then I just get a black screen...Windows will not come up. Anyone know what I can do?? I get the mouse and can move it around but no windows screen. I have done the diagnoics test and found a DST Short Test failed with code 1000-0146 is this why Windows will not load? Is my harddrive bad you think? It reloads Windows fine but Windows will not come up after install? Again all I get is a black screen with the mouse to move around.
I have been getting zappings when i first boot on my pc (running XP Pro). The start screen is black and I see some white static light (lines?) whenever I turn on the pc before it settle down to showing the Windows Logo. My graphic card is new (ATI 5770 Radeon Xfire.happened before i installed the new grahpic card. Also i get black screen for now and then in the middle of work for about a few seconds before it resume back to whatever I was at (or doing). So far it has not crashed nor freeze. I have 4G Kingston Ram but the System is showing 4G Ram and it also shows that only 2.9G is useable. Could the ram be the problem? 2 previous sticks were good showing to be 2G as working healthy and the new additional 2 G shows up as a total of 4G but 2.9 as useable.
Ive done a fair amount of searching online and tried a number of things myself, needless to say, they didnt work.Ok, so here's the issue; When I go to turn on my computer, I make it to the XP splash screen with the 3 blue bubbles moving left to right... But nothing from there.Additionally, between the BIOS screen and the XP splash screen, theres some weird black screen with what looks like a long barcode-esq bar, where a solid white line fills the gaps moving left to right...
