I read a couple of post regarding XP Black Edition an I've even heard talk here about it, but when I went to torrentspy, alot of users commented about it being bundled with malware. Is there a cleaner version somewhere that you guys can testify to, or should I just keep XP until Vista matures.

View 1 Replies View Relateda while back i got tired of vista.but never uninstalled it because i never had the disk well now i have a disc that i think will work.its the xp home edition reinstallation disc, but its from a desktop computer.this leads to my first question. will it work with the laptop im wanting to put xp on? if i can get past that. i don't have the blue dell disc that contains driver, utilities, and applications from the xp computer. i have the ones from my dell laptop which is vista. will i be able to use those disc, or download the drivers and what not from the dell site once xp is on here.?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI built a computer for my mother a few years ago, and used Windows Pro Black edition for her OS. It's been fine, have had no problems until she somehow deleted some detrimental user account files. The only user account that was enabled at the time was the admin account, which is the one she used. The computer boots to the Windows splash, but then an alert pops up telling me that the user files for admin cannot be located and logs me into a temporary user account. The first thing I tried was copying all the folders in the admin user account folder in docs and settings, and creating a new account and pasting those folders into it. I named the account "Janet" and deleted the admin account.
This worked somewhat. I boot into the splash screen, and still get the same error message, but then I get an option to log in under a new user account. I can then enter "Janet" and it tries to load. However, it restarts, and I can only load the user account in safe mode. I have tried to do a system restore, but it tells me that it was unsuccessful no matter which date I try to use. (Probably because I deleted the admin account, like an idiot, before I tried to restore.) Is there a way to find out how to get the computer to stop trying to load "Admin" as the default user account and to load "Janet" instead? I can't find a setting for that anywhere. If it was regular XP Pro, I know I could try using the recovery console on the disk, but this is Black Edition, and although I have the CD still, I don't want to wipe the OS off the HD if there is no recovery console for Black. Would a regular XP CD work to repair this?
well i used to have windows vista home premium but i accidentally over wrote my OS one of my friends put black xp 35 ultimate on my laptop but now i have no sound and i cant seem to find the right sound driver, ive never looked for drivers before so honestly i have no idea what im doing, i tried finding it and ended up with alot of malware, got rid of the malware but still have no sound,if someone could help me find the right sound driver it would be most appreciated, but id really appreciate it if no one posted saying buy vista or something along those lines

When i go to install xp home, it won't let me because it automatically assumes i want to upgrade and i can't choose a clean install. I can't boot from my cd rom so i can't go through bios.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to make a dual boot system Vista/XP with my HP Media Center purchased in 2007 with Vista pre-installed. Inside Vista I created the partition for XP (disk D and rebooted with the 'XP Pro SP2' inside. After selecting its correct partition for installing it copies all files on hard disk and it reboots in order to start its installation, upon rebooting and starting first time from hard disk, it says that there is an error in the system and stops. If I install only XP on the system it works correctly even though some newest hardware is not recognized. I had already made a dual boot two years ago with a 2007 XP Student Edition and it smoothly. If it is due to the XP version being too old that maybe cannot deal with the boot record created by Vista
Or perhaps such an old XP cannot recognize a boot hard disk that is not C:?
Is there a way to bypass this point (perhaps fixing the boot record) in order to continue correctly the installation?

After it finishes the initial installation and restarts it says to press any key to boot from the CD. I wait without pressing anything and than it says that there was an error reading the disk. If I remember correctly, after it restarts it goes strait into windows setup. This happens every time I try restarting, but I can get back into vista by putting the hard drive to boot first. The hardware is very dated (about 6yrs, AMD 1800+, AGP 2, PC2100 ram) and I want to upgrade to new stuff. So being a good citizen I called Microsoft and ask the question, "How do I legally install the legal copy on my new equipment while uninstalling it from the old?" The old hardware is not going to be reused, just to old and slow. Two reps from M$ told me that I could not use my legal copy with the new hardware while one said that I could but had to uninstall it somehow while online so they could verify and activate it for the new stuff. They never got around to telling me how to do that. I take that as a no that they won't allow the 2nd use. So what OS would you choose at the moment? I think I am going to try to reuse the current copy. If that doesn't work I'll repurchase, but which? XP Pro, XP Home, XP 64, Vista, Vista home, Vista 64? I understand that SP1 for Vista has gone into beta so it shouldn't be long to get that. If anyone has some input or experience I would greatly apperciate it. Does anyone think that this is wrong? I'm not trying to cheat M$, as I said it is a legal copy. Any Microsoft employees out there? If I want to reuse a piece of hardware no prob right? Seems to me to be the same thing. Anyway tell me what you think and thanks.

Wondering which versions of XP can Access which other versions of XP.Specifically, can media center edition access media center edition , or do one or both OS's have to be XP PRO. My understanding is that XP Home cannot access or be accessed via Remote Access.

I've got a Lenovo X60 Tablet, which came preinstalled with XP. Last year I installed Vista Ultimate (OEM version), but of different reasons I do not want Vista anymore on my PC and want to downgrade to XP Tablet edition. I have now a XP Tablet edition that I want to install, but it crashes just after it have started the process.
PC is turned on, it boots from the USB CD-Rom drive, it starts to install the drivers, but when it comes to where it says "restarting windows", it crashes and gives me a blue screen telling me that the disk can be corrupted, should be checked for viruses etc. etc. This have happened three times now, and now I have been searching the internet for information of how to work around this. I haven't found any good sources yet and hoped some of you guys at this forum could help me out
