I have an hp pentuim 4ht: 3.4 processer,2ghz memory,80 gig for o/s and 250gig as a slave... but I have problem while trying to install xp black edition(dvd)it gives me a blue screen immediately.
I currently have xp pro loaded on my computer but it was a bad install and i want to install xp home which i like a bit more. When i go to install xp home, it won't let me because it automatically assumes i want to upgrade and i can't choose a clean install. I can't boot from my cd rom so i can't go through bios.
I read a couple of post regarding XP Black Edition an I've even heard talk here about it, but when I went to torrentspy, alot of users commented about it being bundled with malware. Is there a cleaner version somewhere that you guys can testify to, or should I just keep XP until Vista matures.
I built a computer for my mother a few years ago, and used Windows Pro Black edition for her OS. It's been fine, have had no problems until she somehow deleted some detrimental user account files. The only user account that was enabled at the time was the admin account, which is the one she used. The computer boots to the Windows splash, but then an alert pops up telling me that the user files for admin cannot be located and logs me into a temporary user account. The first thing I tried was copying all the folders in the admin user account folder in docs and settings, and creating a new account and pasting those folders into it. I named the account "Janet" and deleted the admin account.
This worked somewhat. I boot into the splash screen, and still get the same error message, but then I get an option to log in under a new user account. I can then enter "Janet" and it tries to load. However, it restarts, and I can only load the user account in safe mode. I have tried to do a system restore, but it tells me that it was unsuccessful no matter which date I try to use. (Probably because I deleted the admin account, like an idiot, before I tried to restore.) Is there a way to find out how to get the computer to stop trying to load "Admin" as the default user account and to load "Janet" instead? I can't find a setting for that anywhere. If it was regular XP Pro, I know I could try using the recovery console on the disk, but this is Black Edition, and although I have the CD still, I don't want to wipe the OS off the HD if there is no recovery console for Black. Would a regular XP CD work to repair this?
I had windows SP2 on my Compaq Presario SR1123WM before it crashed and went back to California for repair.I still have the CD to install the program. But it will not install, either from download from microsoft, or from the CD.I get an error message " Extraction failed.(ccyclic redundancy check)" And a few minutes later, I get the screen, " SP2 did not install," or some such thing. Anyway, I have tried 14 times to install this thing, but Microsoft tells me that Compaq is responsible, because it was OEM installed.
I understand the concept behind the Windows XP Upgrade Edition where you must have an O/S already installed before you can use your Upgrade CD to bring it up to Windows XP.But I'm thinking, there's going to be a time when you are so frustrated with the state your computer that you want to reinstall things afresh. As this is usually down the track, are you up the creek without a paddle if you haven't kept your old Windows 98 CD? Or is there some way of forcing an Upgrade CD to do a full install?
I recently downloaded the free 180-day trial of Windows XP 64-bit edition, and then I proceeded to burn it to a CD.I followed the steps given in the E-mail that Microsoft sent to me. The problem is when I reboot the computer with the CD in the laptop it does not read it to load and it wont install.
The computer will run setup [load files]. But when it gets to install, a STOP ERROR SCREEN comes up. This is with XP Pro. So I tried XP Home. The computer will install it. Can you tell me why it will not install XP Pro?
I have just bought an entire new system, mostly high end and is running E6600 and 8800gtx. Just wondering if I should use the normal 32bit edition of XP, or the 64bit. whats the difference, and is it a good idea for me to use 64bit?
An XPS M1530 and I want to install XP, preferably with the option to dual-boot Vista. A friend of mine installed Vista Pro on his dell desktop. The computer originally came with XP, so he gave me his product key to use for my laptop. If that works,i'm a little concerned about finding the correct drivers for it. Will the same drivers work? Also, to dual-boot means i have to partition my drive. Unfortunately i really don't know how to go about doing that, nor do i know what would be good sizes for a 320GB Hard Disk.
A friend asked me to to install Windows XP home edition on a computer that has Windows XP professional on it. The Windows XP Professional is not an authentic edition so my friend has purchased the Windows XP Home Edition. How can this be safely installed and what should I particularily watch out for
I just did a clean re-install of windows xp home edition and I cannot go to any microsoft site. I tried going to start menu then clicking windows update but it comes up page not found. I have tried both IE and Firefox to go directly to microsoft's website to get service pack 3 and all the updates but it won't go to any microsoft website. It just comes up page not found. What could be causing this?
My hard drive's windows files have become corrupt and I need the files on it, so I purchased a new hard drive. I can't seem to install Windows XP Home onto the new hard drive. Everything goes fine, but then I get an error message saying it can't install the product catalogs. Is this because I'm using a reinstall CD that was provided by Dell.
I am trying to get XP installed onto my old computer.I can boot into UBUNTU Live CD.When the XP CD starts to boot and I get the "press any key to boot from CD". When I press a key, the screen goes black and just sits there.I have tried to burning a new disk and even tried XP 64 bit instead.
My computer was having some issues so I manually re-installed windows media center edition on my Dell 9300 laptop using the disks Dell provides ( run on sentence). Formatted and re-intalled everything went great. Added all software-everything great. However during the install it asked where to load the new operating system there were 3 or 4 places to load, screen said to load to biggest partition. I did. Why are there so many partitions and are they needed? Do they take up space? Also now when the system reboots a black screen shows up and says which operating system do you want to load, they are both the same I leave it at the top one and windows loads with no problems. How do I either get rid of this bogus operating system or diable this page from coming up?
Well i am trying to install a fresh copy of XP and the CD is bootable and the CD drives all work ok, i have tried 3 different CD Drives but when i goto start the boot sequence i get an message saying:

Press any key to boot from CDrom....
I press a key and the cd drive starts off but the screen stays black and does not do anything.
I have never seen the message No Emulation under searching boot device before
I was trying to reinstall windows xp home editon because my computer was infected with a virus that could not be deleted even after trying norotn and mcafee. The CD-Rom drives were deleted from the virus,so I had to transfer the xp cd files from one computer to the infected computer through a direct transfer cable During the xp installation, the computer hung and showed a black screen when installing the devices. Now everytime I start the computer up it goes straght into setup and shows a black screen. The CD-Rom drives do not work pressing delete during start-up will not access the BIOS.It seems I cannot flash the BIOS.How do I cancel the xp setup?
I've recently purchased an HP G50 laptop, and decided to wipe off Vista and install XP - I did this with a few laptops before, no problem. However this laptop is proving to be a real headache. It won't boot from the Windows XP install CD at all The furthest I get is at the "Press any key to boot from CD" prompt, then the screen stays black. I booted without the hard drive to see if this was causing the issue, but the problem persisted. The CD had no problem booting on 4 other machines. I tried a different CD and that didn't make the problem go away. The laptop will boot any Linux install/live cd I shoot at it, yet it refuses to boot the Windows XP install CD.
I have XP Media Center Edition 2002 or 2005 (not sure which) edition on a dell desktop and I have problems with Media Edition so I'd like to go to plain XP home edition. If I buy and run the XP Home upgrade, will that work on top of MCE?
I have a rig with some form of linux i put on there months ago and now i want to install xp home sp 2 on it. i have done many xp home installs and im using the disk from my good rig the one whos specs i have listed because i just put vista on this one. now whenever i put in the xp home disk it starts like normal by saying press any key to boot from cd.... i hit enter and then the black backround stays but no text ever appears. after about 10 min the drive stops spinning.
I recently received a laptop that someone needs me to fix. The problem is that it seems at some point that some kind of update was interrupted during the process and the system will not load unless a windows xp professional edition disk is inserted to complete the update. I also cannot get it to start in safe mode. Unfortunately, I only have a home edition disk. Can I reformat XP pro with a home edition disk? If not, are there any other options?
Wondering which versions of XP can Access which other versions of XP.Specifically, can media center edition access media center edition , or do one or both OS's have to be XP PRO. My understanding is that XP Home cannot access or be accessed via Remote Access.
Trying to delete AVG from my computer(windows xp)Get the message that if i do this, some programes may not work. Also tried change or remove programes. Get the message Initillitation failed.

i have a question about the Home edition sp2, as i known, this version only can support HT with single core, but now i face a problem is that it can support dual core(Yohan) , so about this case, does the Home edition really support dual core in one package? or just it cannot support dual core with individual package?
Can anyone who uses the Windows XP Professional 64 bit Edition OS,give me there opinions on it. What it is like compared to the 32 bit version. Any comments regarding your experience with the OS will be welcome.
What is the BEST Registry Cleaner out there? Does Microsoft have one we can download for free? Or do they recommend one? OTHERWISE what's the BEST one out there?
how can I tell if a hard drive is bad or not. getting error..press Ctrl Alt Delete to restart but just keeps going back to the error.this computer was fine the day before.
Anyway, when upgrading from Windows XP Home Edition to Windows XP Pro earliler this week, everything seemed to work fine and all the program icons I had from Windows XP Home appeared on the XP Pro desktop. However, my Internet Broadband/Dial-Up connection dissapeared from 'Network Connections' and I therefore could not connect to the internet, even though the ISP ('BT Broadband' - I'm based in the UK in case you wonder who BT are) icon remained on my desktop and their software appeared in Programs.
When I contacted my ISP they claimed this is a problem with Windows XP upgrade to Pro and I should contact Microsoft Support. Is this true?
Anyway, I've had to resort to doing a clean install of Windows XP Home again now in order to get back on the internet with my Broadband internet and installing my ISP's USM Modem software all over again. It worked, but still want to upgrade to XP Pro.
Any ideas on how this 'problem' can be resovled. Don't want to have to do a clean install again and again. Also, is It this a common problem with upgrading to Windows XP Pro from Windows XP Home as my ISP claim ?
