I want to allow a User2 account on my PC to access the Internet using my existing dial-up. I thought I'd set it up right, but - modem dials & appears to connect OK but then gives me error message no. 619 (after trying to verify name & pw) & won't connect. This then seriously slows up my PC until I reboot. What do I need to do?

We decided to just reinstall windows xp and start over.I did it, everything went fine,except its not allowing us to connect to the internet.Im not sure at all how to fix this.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi just built myself another new computer and i had one of my other hard drives hooked up as slave so i could retain all the data on it, while making a fresh install of Windows on a different hard drive... so here's the question, i went to get files off my user account "Kevin" from my old hard drive, and it says i do not have access. i know the password for the account but it doesn't ask me for a password.. and i can't put it in anywhere, and then i went to sharing and security and it says to drag it to shared folder but when i try and do that it says i don't have permission..

When I go to my Connection Wizard and follow through the steps I get to the section to "Connect using a dial-up modem" but it is GREYED OUT. The one directly below it is greyed out as well. Can anyone help with this? Been trying everything for the past few weeks but nothing works. Need to get my connection moving in order to start university courses.

When I click start, then favorites, and then click on a link, sometimes it will dial up and go to that particular web page as it should, it will only partially load the Internet Explorer page. So that I can keep a previous email address active I need to log on to an old Pay As You Go dial up connection at least once every 60 days . I have set up the the connection in 'Network connection' in the control panel but get the error " no dial tone " when i try to use it, Should i be disconnecting the router and plugging in the phone cable to the PC directly as we did in pre broadband, dial up only days . View 5 Replies View RelatedAfter long periods of my internet connection being idle (2+ hours usually), all programs requiring internet access are unable to connect. By idle I mean I leave to run some errands with no programs other than Zone Alarm running. My DSL modem still has all lights flashing and active. There are a couple other scenarios where this occurs as well. Ex. I'm playing WoW for extended periods but not using the internet through any other program, then upon alt-tabbing no other applications are able to connect to the internet even though WoW is still connected and functioning. Rebooting the router/modem doesn't fix it, but rebooting the comp does.

I use MSN as my ISP, and before, i could access internet explorer, or firefox, or any program without ever actually having to sign in to MSN. after the crash, however, i now have to sign in to access internet explorer, firefox, and a couple programs. what angers me, however, is that i DONT have to sign in to access trillian. I have Win XP SP2 SMTP server running with Outlook Express and it is working well, except that I have looked at the log file and I suspect that other things are sending emails from my machine. I have up-to-date Zone Alarm firewall and XP firewall turned off.I have 3 email accounts that I use to send emails from my OE all xxx@mydomain.com .Is there any way to configure it and limit it to only allow emails sent from xxx@mydomain.com ? It is possible that these addresses (mta106.mail.cnb.yahoo.com etc) are emails I have sent to valid yahoo email address I suppose, (I dont know the address of the yahoo SMTP server at the other end) but I would feel happier if I could configure it to only allow emails being sent from mydomain.com.My ISP allocates different IP addresses to me every time I login so I cannot restrict it by IP address.

After bios, a win 98 boot screen appears (very similar to a 98 boot floppy screen), asking to make a choice: safe mode is one, and when it is selected, it complains about not finding several windows files: C:windowshimem.sys, dblbuff.sys and ifshlp.sys. Is there a recovery mode for existing installations? Can I reinstall XP SP2 on top of the existing OS and have it preserve everything?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am going to be building a new rig sometime in the future and I have an existing install of XP on my current HDD. I plan on buying a new much larger HDD for a fresh install of XP with my new rig. Now I plan on keeping my old HDD but dont have anywhere to back up the data currently on it when I get my new rig.Once I get the OS intalled on the new drive I want to move the stuff I want to keep from my old drive to the new one then reformat the old drive to clear it all up. The new HDD will be a SATA while my old one is IDE, should I wait to plug in my old IDE HDD until after I get my OS intsalled on the new HDD? Or can I plug them both in and set the SATA drive to be the boot drive in BIOS and then do what I need to do with my old drive after installing the OS on the new drive? And lastly if I chose the former and intstall my old IDE drive after the OS on the new HDD will the fact that I have an existing OS install on the IDE drive mess anything up on the boot up after I install the old drive to move what I need to move to the new drive?

Instead of trashing the machine, I would like to just purchase an entirely new HD for this machine. I am guessing that when purchasing a new HD that it does NOT already come with an O/S already installed. If this guess is correct, my question is this:Can I use the original O/S Reinstallation CD that came with the machine to get the O/S installed on the new HD? ORDo I have to purchase the O/S along with the new internal HD? If more information is needed before an answer can be provided, please let me know what is needed.

After it ran my system lost all the information pertaining to the CDRW or DVD drives, they vanished into thin air! I used the restore feature to undelete what adware found but I still I can not find the drives. I tried to use the "go back" feature but that does not does not work! The CDRW drive is an HP, P/n 5185-4863 and the DVD is a Samsung SD-616 DVDMaster 16e. How can I restore my system after running your adware software besides having to reinstall all of my programs.

Now reinstalled and cant get access to internet, my laptop connected to the router dsl connection works fine but when I connect my pc and set up a connection it ends up trying to dial in whereas I use the ethernet, also the ethernet doesnt show any drivers (and I dont have a driver backup disk).I have access via another computer to download from the internet, so can anyone help me with sites/softwares that can determin the required drivers.
