I am trying to set up an internet connection via a dial-up modem. When I go to my Connection Wizard and follow through the steps I get to the section to "Connect using a dial-up modem" but it is GREYED OUT. The one directly below it is greyed out as well. Can anyone help with this? Been trying everything for the past few weeks but nothing works. Need to get my connection moving in order to start university courses.

The dial-up modem (Motorola sm56 Speakerphone, Voice/Data/Fax)works well on Win ME without any disconnections, but it frequently disconnects from the line at will, on Win XP, particularly when there is a slight delay in receiving bytes. I've not found anything in configuration that should lead it to delink.

People send me film clips and I can view them, but I can't seem to get one to my hard drive so I can send it to various people. It takes about one hour to download a 5 min. clip and then I can play it but I want to keep it and save it.

I went to set up a new dial up connection in XP.I went to connection wizard, I click next, I check connect to the internet, I click next, I check set up my connection manually and click next. On the how do you want to connect to the internet page, connect using a broad band connection is allready checked and the other choices are greyed out. I cannot uncheck the connect using broadband listing. Every time I try this it is the same thing.

Couple of things came up: "Error TCP/IP adapter binding" and "TCP/IP not connected". Tech asked if I hit a keyboard key that shut it down. They referred me to Toshiba. I think I tried all the "Control Panel..Internet Connection" stuff.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm setting up my friends home network. They have 2 PCs connected via ethernet and one laptop on wireless. The router is a wireless router / modem from 2wire. PC number 2 and the laptop both connect with no issues. PC number 1 is weird though. I can go to 192.168.1.254 and it opens up the router system page and I can go through and change and view settings. However when I try to go to any websites it immediately goes to "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage." I have tried netscape and the iTunes store and nothing can connect to the web. I have linux ubuntu on a Live CD and I can boot from that and it connects to the internet just fine.

I have a PC downstairs and a PC upstairs (they are about 10 feet apart through the floor). The PC downstairs is connected to the router/modem. I recently bought a new gateway adapter (Realtek RTL8185). I installed it and everything was fine. Now my problem is every 2 minutes it disconnects, but then reconnects right back (this is bad news for online gaming). The speed is okay, but I have tried reinstalling and everything. It works fine after a restart, but then it starts to disconnect/reconnect, and then just stop all together.

When I click start, then favorites, and then click on a link, sometimes it will dial up and go to that particular web page as it should, it will only partially load the Internet Explorer page. So that I can keep a previous email address active I need to log on to an old Pay As You Go dial up connection at least once every 60 days . I have set up the the connection in 'Network connection' in the control panel but get the error " no dial tone " when i try to use it, Should i be disconnecting the router and plugging in the phone cable to the PC directly as we did in pre broadband, dial up only days . My internet was working properly until a couple of weeks ago when it just stopped working. My internet connection says imited or no connectivity and packets are only being sent not recieved. I have connected my computer directly to the modem so it is not going through the linksys hardware at all and there is still no connection. I have checked all of my computers hardware and it says everything is working properly. Also I have made sure all the drivers are updated and working properly.

By idle I mean I leave to run some errands with no programs other than Zone Alarm running. My DSL modem still has all lights flashing and active. There are a couple other scenarios where this occurs as well. Ex. I'm playing WoW for extended periods but not using the internet through any other program, then upon alt-tabbing no other applications are able to connect to the internet even though WoW is still connected and functioning. Rebooting the router/modem doesn't fix it, but rebooting the comp does.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have Windows XP SP3 and I did some updates two days ago: I allowed a java update that was hanging around in my lower tray for a couple weeks, updated my adobe to the latest version and I updated to Internet Explorer 8. After having IE8 for less than 24 hrs, my husband and daughter said they didn't like it, so I did a system restore to three days ago and now I can't connect to the internet at all. From the small amount of research I've been able to do here at work, it seems that once you download IE 8 you can't revert back to a previous version? Could anyone tell me if that's true? I can't even open the internet options tab from the control panel to see if there is a settings problem.

View 8 Replies View RelatedUpstairs, I have a desktop and a laptop. They are connected to my wife's computer, downstairs, via wireless. Both my wife's downstairs computer and my laptop, upstairs, will connect to the internet just fine, but the desktop will not, even though it shows that there is a strong signal being received. I am running Windows XP Pro, version 2002, with SP2. The computer has an AMD Athlon chip. It used to be a Tiny computer, but after having a major meltdown, about two years ago, I took it to a repair shop, and they installed an ASRock I/O K7S41/K7S41GX motherboard, as well as a new power supply, so I don't really know what to call my computer, now. I guess it's just sort of a mongrel, Heinz 57 Variety.
I have tried using System Restore, but it won't allow me to restore to a former point, no matter how far back in time I go. I started it up in safe mode, then ran AVG, but no viruses were found. When I go to Control Panel, then "Network Connections," it shows that the wireless network is up and running. Even so, I tried repairing the network, by right-clicking on "Repair," but got the following message: "Windows could not finish repairing the problem, because the following action could not be completed: Failed to query TCP/IP settings of the connection. Cannot proceed. For assistance, contact the person who manages your network." Unfortunately, that person is me, who is totally clueless

celeron 2.4ghz 224mb ram conexant soft 56k internal modem trying to connect to the 'net via tesco isp, device manager shows modem connected to com 3, only com3 dosen't show in the ports section of device manager. the problem is the modem tries to dial but then a box pops up with cant detect dial tone( phone line working correctly) the computer says the port is already in use(?). the modem fitted is the second one i've tried, with no success.
I'm dealing with the following issue:
- I can ping www.google.co.uk and recieve return with no packet loss
- I can use msn messenger
- I can ping my router and othr networked computers
- I cannot connect to web pages via IE7
- I cannot update AVG free - "connection to update server failed"
- The computer has been rebooted numerous times
- The internet is known to be working because I'm posting from it.
The computer runs Windows XP SP2 is connected by ethernet to the router. The windows firewall has been disabled.
Hello I have a problem with my computer. A couple months ago I fried my motherborad and took it to COMpusa to be replaced and when I got it back only Internet Explorer, Trillian and AIM work. None of my multiplayer games will connect nor will Firefox or mozilla. I am running with an 1.6g AMG, ATI Radeon x800 pro graphics card, 2 hard drives... one sata and one IDE. no idea what the mobo is is and I also have a gig of ram.
