i am going o get a new system with 64bit, and i was wondering, i will be using AVAST for anti virus.. And i was wondering if i would be able to use programs like Spybot S&D adaware SE, and other programs along those lines... And or will i need them...

Or something sneaky trying to look like it so I'll let it in? Just to be safe, I OK'd the recommended Quarantine. Is that right, or should I let it out of uarantine?
View 14 Replies View RelatedAlright, I have no clue as to what this problem may be caused by. I've ran Spybot S&D as well as Adaware and nothing has improved. My CPU usage still runs at 100% regardless of my rebooting and such.
I've got an AMD athlon xp 2700, 1024 mb ram, & Windows XP SP2.
After I cleaned up his pc the best I could and ran Spybot and Adaware I ran Hijack this. They have a program that downloads weather information and could be spyware. It does download ads. (I think it's called weather bug) I'm trying to convince them to get rid of it. It comes up in the Spybot scans as mini bug or something.

I try and run AdAware and Spybot regularly but it seems that I have to go to each desktop (there are five users on our home computer) to run them to make sure I clean up everything. As you can imagine, especially since my kids do a lot of cruising (most of it supervised), it takes a long time. I am hoping there is some way to be able to run these apps from my desktop and globally cover all desktops at once, but I haven't found it. Any suggestions out there? Thanks.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Gateway 400VTX laptop running windows xp pro. Sound suddenly stopped on it; I don't know exactly when or after what. It was working during the initial days of Hurricane Katrina because I was listening to the news feeds on it, so sometime in the last week or so I noticed it stopped.
I have done the following to troubleshoot:
Run antivirus - norton internet security & trend micro free scan Run adaware and spybot
After a fresh install of windows and downloading SP2 etc plus some other things like a few games, adaware, spybot and kaperspy, I was just browsing (just a normal site, no porn) and I got the explore.exe encountered a problem and needs to close. I can still do browsing and open stuff etc. I tried reinstalling sp2, replacing the explorer.exe file, unchecking non-microsoft programs in msconfig, all with no result. I'm probably gonna just install Litestep and say screw it, but am wondering
View 3 Replies View RelatedTwice so far in the past 4 days my computer has restarted itself automatically. When I get back to the desktop I check the task manager to see if any foul programs are running (which I didn't recognize any) and I noticed my CPU usage was fluctuating between 50% - 100%, never lower. I rebooted into safe mode and the CPU usage was norma (bouncing between 1 - 10%). I've ran adaware, spybot, and trend micro online virus scan which all came up clean. I haven't gotten any error messages or anything like it.
View 10 Replies View RelatedA friend of mine has been having malware problems, and I want to shut down system restore and run Ewido in safe mode. My question is, when I shut down system restore, and then turn it back on when I'm done, does it kill all restore points? Will that be a problem? Can't I just create a new one if needed? And last, won't new ones be created automatically over time? I've never done this,so I would like to be sure before I do.I probably need to stay away from this before I make a bad situation worse. She does have Avast, Ewido, Spybot,CCleaner,and Spyware Blaster. The problem is, she doesn't update or run them.I updated everything she had and ran them and everything is much better, but still a little bit slow. I thought maybe running Ewido in safe mode might get some that might be hiding in system restore. Would like to know if this is safe to do Thanks......Maggie
View 5 Replies View RelatedA while I had Limewire and Kazaa in my computer(like an idiot). Now I have a spyware problem, possible virus too.I have Ad aware and Spybot search and destory.
Both will detect the problems but cannot delete it.I have found the files,(its "search miracle") but XP will not allow me to delete them.
"Cannot delete, being used by another program."but no other progams are running.
When I try to do a Virus scan now with my McAfee, my computer will restart half way thought the search. and now, at random, my computer will restart itself anytime.
I have been experiencing random crashes, freezes and especially error messages for a while now.I ran and reran updated versions of ad-aware, spybot, Norton, hijack this, a million times,defragged and did a couple of files clean-ups to no avail.
I posted my problems on various boards and nobody that helped did fix it

I am working on a PC for a friend and after installing Adaware,Spybot S&D, Spywareblaster and Avast I found too many things wrong with the PC and was trying to just reinstall Windows instead. I followed Dells instructions to Hold down Control and then hit F11 and then release both at the same time to get to the restore screen. Well it never came up and I got to the Safe Mode Last Known Good Configuration screen instead. I kept trying and nothing would change, so I picked Safe Mode. I was wondering what others of you used for anti-virus, anti-spyware, firewalls etc.I have heard that sometimes it's not the best idea to use a complete package, like ZA internet security suite, for the whole lot You hear a lot of conflicting info about them all, I've heard that AVG is good, Norton isn't, someone said windows defender was good.

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy computer had been running fine, but I was using Mcafee and I hated it, so I uninstalled it. Without having any antivirus software to replace it with right away. So, about a week later (aka today), my dad was helping me install a new printer when everything went crazy. It was taking forever for my computer to boot up, and then after it was 'ready' it was incredibly slow. Then it would go to a blue screen with some text on it (I wish I had written down what it said, but I didn't-something about an infection detected) and we would shut it down manually. Finally, we were able to restore the computer to an earlier date. The printer is no longer installed, but I think I still have a virus.
I just installed avast, which during a reboot it did a scan where I had lots of infected files, and several options as to what to do with them. A few of them were temporary internet files, and not thinking, I hit delete. I realized this was a bad idea, and for the infected files after that, I selected "move to chest."
I'm not sure where to go from here. A lot of them are c:system volume information\_restore... which might have something to do with why my speakers aren't working.
Windows xp home sp2, Intel 3.0ghz 512MB approx 15 months old.PC shuts down when running AVG anti-virus or AVG anti-spy ware. When either program reads C:/windows/I386 it intermittently powers down. I think there's a corrupt file in the main body of I386, but can't isolate it. I'm not sure which type of file should be in this area.

View 39 Replies View RelatedMy PC recently got a fairly nasty virus (W32-Sinowal-based Maximus! or something along those lines) so we had to get it wiped. A few days later, my computer was all messed up again. I can only boot up in Safe Mode, my sound doesn't work, and it is running slower than normal. I need to find out if I have another virus (although the guy who fixed it downloaded Norton Anti-Virus and it seemed fine for a few days) or if maybe my computer is just dying. It's about three years old and apparently it was outdated before we even bought it. Is there any way the virus could have affected the computer's hard drive or whatever (yeah, I don't quite know what I'm talking about) or have I maybe gotten another virus?

Norton AntiVirus 2003 initially caught the virus and it supposedly deleted it, so I was not concerned with the message details. However, almost immediately after receiving the message I realized the virus was not completely removed. A DOS window popped up two or three times and then Norton shutdown. I tried opening Norton again but it would not open. I then tried uninstalling and reinstalling but it would not reinstall. I tried the Windows Update site and the page shows no conent. Any ideas on how to identify the virus so I can take steps to remove it?
