2K Svchost.exe Has Generated Errors
Oct 14, 2005
SVChost.exe has generated errors & will be closed by Windows. YOu will need to restart. An error log is being created.re-formatted hard disk drive & re-installed Windows & apps about 6 weeks ago to get rid of redundant / incompatible software. I had been using Norton AV & Roxio Easy Media Creator. I am now using Panda Platinum Internet Security 2005 & Today, I attempted to perform "routine maintenance"; chkdsk & defrag.I ran error checking, checked both boxes, accepted invitation to run chkdsk at reboot because exclusive access to Hard disk drive was required. Using msconfig.exe, I set computer to boot to safe mode so I could run defrag in safe mode. I have done these things in the past, with no problems. Login screen appeared. I typed my password, but nothing appeared. Computer unresponsive to keyboard / mouse input. I pulled the power cord after waiting 5 minutes.

Explorer.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created. After downloading the latest Microsoft updates and security patches for this virus that hit last week, the above error happen. The desktop does not open. Start button will pop up, but after the error message appears it goes away.Pressing ctrl-alt-del will bring up Task Manager, but Explorer is not running, nor is anything else. Press New Task and get a new error message, but this one is from Task Manger: Tskmgr.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows. You will need to restart the program. The last couple of days, my computer randomly gives me an error messages that says SERVICES.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created. Then, a shut down box pops up that tells me my computer will shut down in one minute... and there's a timer on there that counts down and when the minute is up, my computer shuts itself down and restarts.I've run Adaware, Spybot S&D, SuperAntiSpyware, and cleared my temporary internet files, etc. It's still doing it, and it's getting on my nerves because I can't get ANY work done. It's doing this like ever 30 minutes or hour or so.

I am running Windows 2000 Pro, and recently I began using Asmw eraser pro. Shortly after I began to use Asmw, I began to get errors during startup. The two error messages I receive are: "MotiveSB.exe is generating errors and will be shut down.", and "ycommon.exe is generating errors and will be shut down. You will have to restart your computer." I have run a few virus programs without detecting any viruses. I don't know if these errors are caused by the history cleaner, or what, but they now occur every time I start up.

When I startup my computer, it gets to the XP login screen and then winlogon.exe errors. I don't know the exact error code, I didn't copy it down, but svchost.exe also errors twice, and the first code is 0x0000d0005 I believe.
This happened straight after I installed XP Service Pack 2 directly from microsoft's website.
I have a feeling something to do with my wireless card installation caused it. The thing is, Netgear install a custom msgina.dll (for reasons unknown to me) and I actually replaced my msgina.dll with a different one a few months ago as I didn't like having to click on task manager when i pressed CTRL+ALT+DEL, which is what happened with the netgear msgina.
Anyhow, what I've currently tried is using my XP installation CD and going to the recovery console and then doing this:
copy msgina.dll msginabackup.dll
copy E:I386MSGINA.DL_ msgina.dll
So replacing my msgina.dll with a backed up version. This doesn't solve the problem, however if I do the same for winlogon.exe and use both the backed up msgina and the backed up winlogon, I don't get a winlogon.exe error anymore. But, I still get the two svchost.exe errors and when I click to login, it says "loading your personal settings" and then goes back to the default loading screen, so I click to login, it says "loading your personal settings" and then goes back again etc.
I have a feeling there might just be a file or two extra that I need to restore from backup copies, but I have no idea which they'd be. I'm an intermediate-expert PC user but I don't really dabble with system files so I'm all out of ideas for what could be wrong, which is why I'm posting here.

I am reposting "strange error message" to reflect the exact message the computer is giving me. My daughter has 2k and said strange messages have been popping up and she can't do anything. I deciced to take a look at it. It will boot up, then it gives the above message in a box. When you try to click on it, it just freezes, and creates the same message on the bottom, so it looks like tons of windows are open. I went to the forum search and put in this message, and found a link on how to boot in safe mode and follow 3 steps, and that didn't work. I also want to add that although it has an internet adapter, right now it will not boot to internet, so I can't run anything on it unless it's possible to do any type of seach off a cd or floppy (any type of virus scans, etc.).

just the other day my internet started disconnecting itself then my modem would dial another number after maybe 45 mins to an hour of being connected. i thought it might be a dialer so i scanned with norton antivirus, spybot search and destroy and adaware but not one seamed to find anything related to my problem. the thing that confuses me is that every time it makes a new connection in my network settings labeled with user followed by what i assume is a randomly generated number.

The family computer is playing up and to the best of my knowledge the computer in question just simply suddenly stopped working as it should. I am unable to get the 'default' welcome screen upon start up and am getting the logon box where you type in a username and passworld. I know how to get rid of this, user accounts>enable welcome screen - but it will not solve the problem. This is just the start of the problems. I get a whole host of errors which popup one after another.

When I start it, after a few seconds, a task is appearing in the Task Manager, called "svchost.exe", which is using 100% of my PCU. I know this task is part of Windows, but I'm wondering why it uses so much CPU... I performed a search on the web and found 2 tips: 1- Performing a registry scan (with RegCure or equivalent), then a spyware scan and a virus scan; 2- Updating my system on Windows Update. I did the first step with the free versions of RegCure and RegistryFix (registry scan), AdAware and AVG Free. But concerning the 2nd step, when I go on the Windows Update site, the automatic update tool performs an infinite search to find the suitable updates for my system

This has been going on for awhile. When I start my PC svchost.exe kicks in and uses all the cpu's so I can hardly get any programs to run. I have resorted to opening up the Task Manager and stopping the svchost.exe that is the culprit. Then everything runs fine. I know that the svchost.exe is most likely a Microsoft program (Windows Update and Windows Defender) that you need to run.

I'm not a complete n00b and i got rid of isass.exe which was causing my system to shut down in 60 seconds. However I haven't been able to stop another problem I have which is the Generic Host Process for Win32 Services problem that usually comes with blaster. I doubt that it's blaster though. also could anyone suggest a good security combo I could use. Anti Virus Firewall and Anti Spyware I've become quite used to NOD32 and I don't like using the other memory hogs... I need suggestions for anti spyware and firewall that would go with NOD32.. or just any good solution that would prevent this from happening again and that wouldnt consume all my memory up.

Whenever my laptop boot up to Windows XP, just when I thought everything was loaded properly, the svchost.exe would start to show 100% CPU usage. I checked through the previous posts and realised that most of the pp seemed to have the problem only when they are running Microsoft update or when they are using AMD CPUs. However, I am in neither of the 2 categories. Also, I think it was mentioned before that I could possibly check which program that is using the svchost.exe. But when my laptop is having 100% CPU usage, basically it does not respond to any instructions, may I know how can I check the program in that case? Is there something similar to a log file that I can look through?

a Dell Latitude laptop with XP pro, SP3 and all updates. Recently I found the cpu running at 3-4 % with only the desktop, Avira, and Windows Defender running. Normally cpu is down to 1% with these programs running. I turned off automatic updates and avira and defender but cpu was still at 3-4 %. How can I find out the cause of this? I do not know which of several svchost processes is causing the problem, this one uses about 35Mb with firefox open, 31Mb when I close it.

I deleted a file called svchost.exe because Norton said it was infected with a virus. I use WinXP sp2. Now I can't find my taskbar at the bottom and I can't go online.I made a full system back up a few days ago.If I can restore this file(s), I think there were three of them, I think I get my computer to work properly again. The problem is where are these files located? If someone could look on their computer and tell me I would appreciate it.There variations on svchost.I know one was svchost.exe. I also know one was located in Documents and Settings.
