I have a Sony Vaio laptop that came with XP and due to unfortunate circumstances it now has 2000. The problem is everytime I go to the Sony website for drivers they are for xp and won't work. I need the dvd drivers and the sound drivers. I was wondering if someone had some advice for me?

I repaired windows using the cd because I restarted my computer and it was either going to take 7min+ to boot, or just wasn't going to. I got stuck at the windows splash screen. I'm using windows professional. Whenever I try to install any of the drivers, I get the same error message: Setup did not find a driver compatible with your current hardware or operating system. The graphic driver is the other driver that wont install properly. when i run the installation i get a message that reads

I have reset my activex controls, ran AVG and Adaware. Nothing comes up. My ISP is wmconnect which just recently changed to Netscape connect. they have no technical support for this problem. If anyone has any ideas. My OS is Windows 2000 Pro.

However, when I stuck in the CD and selected "Install XP Pro," it told me "Windows XP Setup does not support upgrading from Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional to Microsoft Windows XP Professional."
So it will only let me do a clean install. Is this because I have an OEM CD meant for a new computer? I thought you could upgrade (rather than re-install) to XP from any genuine XP CD?

When it comes time for the Username/Password, I put them in, I hear the wave sound for windows loading, and then it freezes! The hour glass cursor remains on the screen and moves, only NOTHING happens from there on.
However,I can get it to boot normally after this by shutting it down.... then going into the Bios Set-up screen.....Change NOTHING & simply exit out of the Bios Set-up......THEN it will start normally and bring up the Desktop! BUT....if I shut it down again, It will freeze right after the Log-in just like before. Im tired of always having to go into the Bios to get this darn thing to work

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with Windows 2000. For some reason it won't load up. It gets to the login and loading prefrerences boxes, but after that there's just a blue screen. I've tried booting in safe mode. That just leads me to a black screen with "safe mode" in the four corners. I tried booting in the last known good configuration and it goes through the same process only now a message pops up in symbols. Also, when I hit [ctrl][alt][delete] everything is clickable except for task manager. That was also the case the last time I was in windows. I have absolutely no Idea what to do.

This went on for a while until last week when l turned on my computer it was opening at the speed of a snail, maybe slower.today when l turned the computer on it was starting real slow until the screen said it was checking my password and then stopped cold. Now it doesn't do anything but say IBM Thinkpad.I bought my laptop on ebay from an IBM reseller who preinstalled the windows 2000 and on the bottom of my computer is a COA from microsoft. If l had the disk l would try and reinstall the program but l do not.I forgot the name of the reseller and they we fantastic to do business with. They helped whenever l had a question and always told me if there was ever aproblem l should just send it back and they would correct it. In fact they are in Atlanta and l had my computer there and l had a problem with the dvd player and when l told them where l was they said come right over and they will get it going. p.s. my son fixed it and l never went over.

Small master harddrive was full installed an old harddrive from another computer an 80gig axs a slave. it shows it is drive letter F and can open it I deleted all the files that were on it so it is empty.
