View 1 RepliesI am tired of having to repair Windows updates then get to install one or two then have to go through the whole process again.
Is there a site where updates can be downloaded according to their KB numbers then installed manually?
I just discovered recently I haven't received any windows update since 04/27/14. I was setup for automatic updates. The window says no updates available and no recent updates. When I select "check for updates" I get the messages "Windows could not check for new updates" & "There was a problem checking for updates. The error code is 80072F8F. I have checked the date time and they're correct. I have checked for viruses and malware. Nothing shows up.

how to get it?
I have Windows 8.1 RTM installed on my computer. Some days ago, Microsoft released the GA updates for the system. Windows update downloaded them, but they failed to install... I've downloaded the updates manually and applied them in the correct order... But no luck, the updates fail to install...
Here's a photo of the updates... (in Spanish)
The graphics are bad after the 8.1 update...I'm using a desktop and windows 8 is a nightmare..thinking about just returning brand new computer...its too frustrating with this crapoy software.

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhy can't I find the update in the Store? 2 possible reasons are listed in the article:
1) Your PC needs another update, KB 2871839, After checking for this update and not seeing it I still received the 8.1 update via Windows store anyway & downloading now.
2)Some editions of Windows 8 don't support the free update to Windows 8.1.
This feels like it started happening after the latest update, but I've noticed that I have what looks like two taskbars, one behind the other, now. Nothing I do fixes it - I have to reboot the machine. Here's a screenshot where I pulled one of them up higher to easily see the difference.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI purchased a Windows 8 Pro licence through a classified advert on another forum in Sept 2013 and now since Windows XP is no longer supported I decided to update my OS. I thought I got a good deal on the licence and when I went to try download an official Windows 8 file I couldn't. I contacted Microsoft who informed me my licence is a valid Windows 8 Pro VL licence. They were unable to provide me with a physical ISO to download from and told me to ask the person I purchased it from... who of course has since disappeared.
So I downloaded the Windows 8 Pro x64 ISO from MSDN, installed great, product activated perfectly, my old pc is running and booting fast and I actually like it. However when I try to update the scroll bar just constantly scrolls left to right and the progress bar shown at 0%.
I have googled, and deleted the folder called the DOWNLOAD folder in SoftwareDistribution following advice online, however this still does not fix the problem. Occassionally I have got the files to download after the 0% progress says different, and when it comes to install these update files, nothing happens.
Is it because I downloaded a dodgy OS version from MSDN? it is the 915417.iso that I used.
Also can I update to Windows 8.1? When I installed the first few times I tried to update through the Windows Store. it said I require updates. Some files might have updated, I did a "shut down and update" option once and since that the option of installing Windows 8.1 has disappeared.
While updating my computer i accidentally left the charger out. So it shut down towards the end of the update and now when i restart my computer i'll only the see the HP start-up/loading screen and then the screen just turns black and all i see is my cursor. I didn't get any Windows installation cd with my computer and now what to do.
View 9 Replies View RelatedUsually when on my Desk Top screen I could go to Google Search, find a site that I wanted to add to my desk top (not bookmark) , minimize it and then drag the address on to the Desk Top screen.
What happens now is that when trying to minimize it shows a blank screen underneath ? The only way that I can get back to the Desk Top is by going to top left corner and obviously I cant drag to there. How to rectify this.
My Windows 8 Update didn't install yesterday & now seems stuck on 'preparing to install',
maybe the same problem it had when trying the free update to 8.1 that didn't work,
I am looking forward to 10/18 and getting the Win 8.1 update from the Store to update my Win 8 machine. I wonder if doing the update will modify the partition that is labeled Window Recovery on my HD. I suspect not.

View 1 Replies View Related"Your PC ran into a problem...and needs to restart"..... then it reboots immediately.
...this happens when I watch online youtube videos for my classes using chrome.
I have a fresh install of Windows 8 Pro on a new PC and have done for some weeks. On Friday i hit the shutdown option Update and Restart. On the Saturday (yesterday) I turned on my machine to greeted with the Windows 8 Logo then a blank screen and doesn't boot at all into Windows (And not i have checked both monitors and they connected fine.
What was i doing just BEFORE "Update and Restart".......
1. Enabled UEFI on the BIOS
2. Installed the Hyper-V Windows 8 Features
3. Created and installed a Virtual Switch
4. Created and installed a Virtual Machine and installed Windows 8.
5. Onto the VM i installed Visual Studio 2012 Web (MVC4) and SQL Server Express 2012 (NOT LocalDb)
Then after than i ran the Windows Update on the main PC and pressed "Update and Restart".
What have I tried doing to resolve this issue?
Booted (F12) using the OEM Disc. I have then Repair your computer->Troubleshoot....
1.1 Advanced Options
1.2 Automatic Repair
1.3 This fails and I get the following error:
[URL] ....
then i tried....
2.1 Refresh PC
2.2 I get the following error:
"The Drive where Windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again"
then i tried....
3.1 Reset PC
3.2 I get the following error:
"Unable to reset your PC. A required drive partition is missing"
then i tried....
4.1 System Restore
4.2 This fails and i get the following error:
[URL] ....
So I'm completely at a loss. I presume if I unlock the primary disk I should be able to boot or at least repair? Anyway i really don't want to wipe and uninstall if possible.
I want to burn windows 8.1 update iso to dvd. I don't know which program to use .. Also what should be the write speed.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am going to be restoring a Windows 8 computer to factory original, then upgrading it to 8.1. Would it be better, after the restore, to let Windows Update do all the original Windows 8 updates, then go to the Windows Store and upgrade to 8.1, or should I go to the Store right after the restoration, get 8.1, and then do Windows updates?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a hacktivated windows 8 installation, which regularly pestered me to update to windows 8.1. These untoward advances were always rejected by me, as i always clicked 'remind me later'. Since a few days i have observed high network activity and now suddenly windows is asking me to reboot to install windows 8.1. Now I am afraid to shut down or restart my pc. What will happen if I let it update? Will the crack persist? Will my pc get screwed?
View 7 Replies View RelatedWill it be like it was the case from Windows 8 > 8.1 where it was actually a whole new installation and the old Windows 8 was put in a Windows.OLD folder or will it be a simple update via Windows Update where the user loses nothing?
View 9 Replies View RelatedSome time ago, it is possible, in msconfig.exe you could Expand file and select .cab, then, you could save as .msu wherever you want.
Right now, with Windows 8.1, there is anyway to build .msu from .cab update?
a friend just asked me if he will get the standard retail ISO of Windows 8.1 with Update if uses his Windows 8.1 product key to start the "Upgrade with product key only".
And I didn't know what to answer him, I'm pretty sure you get a standard image that you can use not only to upgrade but to install Windows anew doing that; but I don't know if it'll be the one with spring's update.
I wish to update to windows 8.1 from Windows 8(KMS activated + WMC key provided by microsoft).
Will it be possible to update via store or any other alternatives?
I was wondering if I can update my windows 8 which came pre-installed to 8.1 without going to the store and waiting for it to be downloaded.
Is there any ISO online where I can readily download the image and update it? Its a HP laptop.
My problem is that my computer no longer is able see Windows 8.1 on bootup. I get a "Loading OS".... message and nothing happens.
Before this happened, I reset my computer from Windows with the intent to change a BIOS setting for the CPU fan and an Windows update was applied on reboot. Windows (apparently) installed the update and then I got to the login screen. At this point, instead of logging into Windows, I hit the reset button to make the BIOS change. After doing this, when I tried to boot again, Windows would even begin to load and I got the "Loading OS" message immediately. Is it possible that Windows did not finish installing the update even though I was at the login screen for Windows 8.1?
I then booted from the USB flash drive with Windows 8 install files (not 8.1... I upgraded from 8 to 8.1). I went into the repair option and then I got the message that no repairs could be found or were needed. (Interestingly now when I try the repair option, the computer automatically reboots so the repair option appears to be very broken now.)
Next, I tried to see if my disks were working and they seem to be. Attached is a screenshot when I list the volumes. C: drive is a HDD data drive without Windows. D: drive appears to be some sort of system restore partition (as far as I understand). F: drive is the SSD with Windows installed on it. I can navigate through all directories fine on the SSD and the drive seems healthy. (E: drive is the USB drive.) When I unhook the data drive, all the letters get shifted up one and this does not seem to be a factor in reviving Windows. Are the drive letters important? I find it odd that the SDD does not show up as C drive with or without the data drive installed.
I tried the sfc /scannow option in offline but I cannot get it to run. I believe that I am entering the letters correctly (and I have tried different variations). Please check if I am not typing this in correctly given my drive letters.---How do I get this to run?
I also tried to apply the Windows System Restore option on my flash drive, I seemingly was able to restore to a restore point set this morning. However, Windows is still not found at bootup at all.
At this point, I'm at a complete loss on how to proceed short of reinstalling Windows. Other options from the Windows 8 repair screen seem to result in loss of programs or data.
For the record, my motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-870A-UD3. I tried restore some BIOS settings to no effect.
After upgrading a Dell XPS One using both Intel HD 4000 and nVidia 640M graphics, the computer takes 5 minutes to restart. The restart screen immediately shows up after hitting the restart button. Then the screen goes black for 5 minutes. Afterwards the Dell logo shows up and everything starts fine from there. I don't understand why the monitor stays black for 5 minutes before restarting.

Now I am unable to project to a second screen. My set up is two monitors connected to my laptop (One from a directly connected HDMI cable and the other by an HDMI cable, connected to a utility bar, connected to my laptop by usb). I have already updated my graphics driver to the latest edition and still get the message "Your PC can't project to another screen. Try reinstalling the driver or using a different video card."
