My computer system is windows8. When I try to download something or just run some programs, a warning would show up and said that I have low disk space. How can I clear my disk space? Also, I wonder a simple disk defragmentation could be enough.

For some reason, the disk space usage bars in 'My Computer' are missing. Although they should be visible in 'tile view', I can only see the drive icons, not the bars. Interestingly, When I open a file in e.g. Word I can see the bars in the open file dialog (also in 'tile view'). I've already tried resetting the folder view settings, but without any luck.
I partitioned my hard disk into a 150GB (C) and 500GB (D) and upgraded from Win7 to Windows 8 (and subsequently Windows 8.1 after the recent updates). The OS is installed onto the C Drive.
Performed a Clean Installation of Windows 8 on my C Drive. Under the Choose What To Keep Option, I selected Nothing.
Technically speaking my C Drive would have been wiped clean but after the Windows 8 installation, my C Drive only has 5GB of space left (145GB is being used). The Windows 8 OS is not detecting any of the old programs in my C Drive and the automated Disk Clean up feature only offers removal of temporary internet files. Which brings me to one possible assumption...
The Clean Installation Failed. Windows 8 simply installed itself again on my C Drive and the remaining disk space (containing my previous Windows 8.1 OS and programs) is locked down somewhere. I suspect this had something to do with changing my HD format 3 years ago when I wiped clean my pre-loaded ASUS laptop Win7 and partitioned it to install my Windows 8.
I installed Windows 8 Pro on a GPT partition. I have 234GB of SSD with 87% free space according to Disk Management. I am trying to create a 4GB primary partition for Intel Rapid Start but the Disk Part shows i have no space available in that drive and would not let me create the partition. Why would that be?
I was recently experimenting with partitions and i had to assign 50 GB of disk space to a partition. Sadly, I noticed that after I deleted it I can't add it back to my main hard drive's space. How I can do this so I have all my disk space again?
I moved to a Samsung tablet core I5 with Windows 8 Enterprise and I have to survive with very low capacity SSD drive. After Windows 8 Intallation, O13 installation, and a strict minimum of corporate applications, I'm left with less than 21 gig available space for my files ... It was already hard with a 128 gig SSD, things have just gone worst. I do not plan to plug an external hard drive all the time ...
1) I added a microSD drive of 32 gig, but... I cannot add up this drive to any Library (documents, pictures, video or music),how to force the system to accept the microSD as "permanent drive"
2) I need a cloud / server cache system that would enable "partial sync" for offline files (not always connected to Internet)
3) Any search tool to recommend that is also searching emails since Windows 8 doesn't search into Outlook files ost and pst (W7 did this)
i have the same problem, it gives me the same error, "Windows cannot be installed to this hard disk space. The partition contains one or more dynamic volumes that are not supported for installation."
I would like to try Windows 8 Pro on my PC, I've currently installed Windows 7 Ultimate (32-bit) with SP1 on my PC which takes about 7.8 gigs of disk space. So, my question is that how much disk space does a normal clean installation of Windows 8 Pro (32-bit) takes?
One of my favorite features of Windows Explorer was that it told me the free disk space in the status bar. Since Windows Vista, you also had the ability to see the free space on hard drives across the network.
Now in Windows 8 you can't even in the least see the free space on the status bar of your own pc, let alone those across the network, and for someone who's constantly moving files across my home network, it's becoming a bit of a hassle.
I don't think there's away to to restore this functionality (already installed the ClassicShell program) so absent of that, is there a free disk space monitoring tool recommended? I'm mainly looking for one that has a system tray function that can tell me the amount of free space I have left, either in percentage form, or megabyte form, or gigabyte form, whatever.
Windows Update trying to install KB2976627, continually receiving error that I do not have enough disk space remaining to install the update. My OS Drive has 75 GB Remaining.
I have just done a clean install of 8.1 on my old MacBook Pro as I broke the screen on my normal laptop. I could only afford to give 40GB to this new installation so I'm quite tight for space.
I've always used [URL] .... to check for disk usage but in my case it is not useful as it shows size of items not the size on disk. I have to keep my OneDrive files on-line only to save space but as they are reported as part of used disk space I am seeing 150% of my disk space is used which isn't useful really. In Disk Management I can see it is only 59%.
Any utility like WinDirStat that shows size on disk?
I am having trouble with a message in Action Center in Windows 8.1. It is saying "Check Backup Disk Space" and I cannot hide the message. I had Windows 7 File Recovery setup with Windows 8.1, but now after the upgrade, the message is "stuck." Can this be fixed? These two links explain it perfectly:

Can I boot from usb any more if I use diskpart to clean my disk on surface? I want to know whether its still need some boot efi file in the hidden partition when booting from usb.
Does making a new drive by shrinking volume of c: drive and making a volume of the new drive slow down your computer? Does using space on the new drive slow down your computer either?
I have two drives which have exactly the same files on them. I have opened the drive and selected everything and gone properties. The sizes are the same.
If I then go to "This PC" it shows that 1 drive has used 50GB more than the other.

I recently built together a brand new computer but after installing windows 8.1, the computer keeps BSODing with different error messages all the time. I've been trying to install my battlefield 4 but during installation, it will assuredly BSOD. It also BSODs when im transferring a large amount of files from my usb external hdd. Even in the process of trying to collect the minidumps and zipping the folder, it would also BSOD. I have already tried reinstalling windows but it has no effect.
My internet explorer also keeps not responding and while installing other programs they also "not responding"
Edit: after posting this, I was trying to install chrome from the internet but everytime I tried it kept BSODing, total of three times with each different error names
I originally built my computer with two 1 TB hdd as RAID1 with Windows 8 Pro 64 Bit as the OS.
The boot files eventually became corrupted. I could not reinstall Windows 8 on the RAID 1 array. So I then purchased two 2 TB HDD and created a new RAID 1 array which Windows 8 readily loaded onto.
I then added the two original 1 TB HDD to the computed to use for photography and media storage. They also showed when booting my computer as a separate RAID 1 array, but were listed as "repair." I went into the RAID BIOS and separated the array. I connected only one of the 1 TB HDD, and the drive was the "E" Drive in my computer, but I was unable to access it. "E: is not accessible. Access is denied." Disk Management showed the drive as DISK 1, but as two partitions: System Reserved 350 MB NTFS Healthy (Active, Primary Partition) and 931.17 GB NTFS Healthy (Primary Partition). I used Diskpart to create a Primary partition and format the disk. That HDD now works fine. Unfortunately I did not backup the data on that HDD, which I would like to have.
I did try the second mirrowed 1 TB HDD on the computer before formatting the first and was able to access all of the data on the HDD.
Now after formatting the first 1 TB HDD, I added the second 1 TB HDD from the original RAID 1 array back onto the computer, wanting to retrieve the data on it. This HDD does not show on My computer and is not assigned a drive letter. However the HDD is listed in Disk Management as DISK 2 and partitioned into System Reserved 350 MB NTFS Healthy ( active, Primary Partition) and 931.17 GB NTFS Healthy (Primary Partition). Looking for retrieving the data on this disk, copying it to another HDD, and then creating one partition on this HDD? How to assign the HDD a drive letter. I would like to format this HDD after copying the data, and have my computer assign it a drive letter so that I can use it.
When I run Check for Updates it just hangs. It says it is checking for updates and green progress bar is repeatedly running across, but nothing happens.
Before this problem arose I had just run disk clean-up including remove installation files and windows updates. The disk clean-up process removed about 59 GB including a large Windows.old folder.
I upgraded to Windows 8 from XP about 10 days ago. Windows update was working fine until the disk clean-up. I ran Check for Updates frequently after the upgrade to make sure I got all the updates, it worked perfectly well for both update and install.
I have tried Checking for Updates several times since running disk clean-up.
First time I ran it I had this error message: Windows Update error 0x8024a000 (only seen that one time)
I ran the Update Troubleshooter after that and it found/fixed the following:
Potential windows update database error detected 0x80070490 -Fixed Windows update components must be fixed - fixed
The troubleshooter did not resolve the issue. I have run Check for Updates many times since with no more error messages, but it just hangs. When I run the Update troubleshhooter it fixes the same two issues as above.
Since the disk clean, Windows Update shows:
Most recent check for updates - Never Updates were installed - Never.
As my Windows Updates were previously all succesfully installed, the history must have been cleared.
No error messages have been seen since that first one which has not repeated.
I bought 8 Pro a few months ago and installed it on my desktop pc. I then purchased the upgrade to get Media Center. I have spare parts to build another pc and was wondering if the 8 Pro disk is "not in use" and can be installed as when I did the Media Center upgrade I had to enter a new product key.
I was using my son's laptop (hp 255) as mine is in for repair and thought I would install windows 8.1 onto his system as a free upgrade (bought in march this year running windows 8) Unfortunately the power failed whilst the update was installing and now I can't boot up the computer and he did not create a system repair disk I have looked at safe mode (turn on and press esc) and that will bring me to various options - I have tried restore and it appears there are no restore dates available..
I'm running windows 8.0 and recently for some reason my computer's disk usage is constantly running at 100%. It will dip once every minute or so and load whatever I've clicked or typed and then freeze again.
I've looked extensively online and there is no exclusive cause or reason for this and seems to be a very tricky issue but I will explain what I have done so far:
Disabled Supefetch and Windows Search
Ran chkdsk f command numerous times
Disabled and deleted the page file (that was setting limits)
Tried defragging, disabling firewalls, etc.
Made exceptions for some files that may have been causing issues in automatic scans.
Been told numerous times to open Resource Monitor and check what's doing it and there are numerous things running at different times that this occurs, some are: NTFS Free Space Map, NTFS Master File Table, NTUSER.DAT files, random log files. There is no consistency.

My relatively new (about 2 months old) laptop running on Windows 8 suddenly became slow. I noticed it starting yesterday when it became really laggy. Just a few days ago it was working just fine.
I tried to look for solutions online and was worried that it might be caused by malware. I did a quick scan with Malwarebytes and it found no infections.When I boot in safe mode, it seems pretty fine. I tried doing a system restore but I was also informed that it wasn't completely done probably because of an antivirus.
My antivirus is Norton Internet Security and I've read that Norton can be such a hog so I've tried disabling it though not entirely and it hasn't been uninstalled yet. I've also tried running a chkdsk /r because going to Tools > Check for Errors on my C: drive said that there were errors that needed repair.
It has become less laggy but apparently not totally (not to previous state). My task manager however still shows 100% disk usage. Previously Norton would be listed among the top but now it's usually "System" and I don't quite understand why.
