Windows 8 - Establishing Default Email Program When Sending Images?
May 24, 2013
When I am at a web site that contains .JPG images, I can right click on the image to forward it to a third party as an email attachment. I have done this in the past using Vista. However, I receive an error message, saying that I do not have a default email program established, and that I should set one up as a default program.
My Windows 8 laptop came with a Mail email program established. I used Control Panel to verify that this program exists for default email applications. Is there something else that I need to establish in order to enable Mail to act as a default program?
I noticed when I send a web page to anyone using Windows default mail program (Outlook) it will send the page as a Url address and not a clickable link. Is there a way to change this? Or should I change defalt mail handler? When I send page links from Chrome or my g-mail account it always sends the page as a link.
I have tried all different ways to do this but it is not working for me. I want to send a link in an email a clickable one it also does not work in copy and paste , [URL] ..... this is what i want to send ....
I wasn't aware that I had used an email to get the Windows 8 started but I guess I did. I closed that account and am not able to access it. However, if I want to get into the store, etc. It tells me to log in with that email address. It will not let me change the address in the login screen. How to do I change in on the computer? Where is that setting?
I have Windows 8.1 and on my desktop are several PNG files and shortcuts. When I double click on any of them the program that opens is Directory Opus (I use this instead of Windows Explorer). I checked the defaults and it is NOT Directory Opus.
Background: I have been using windows since 3.11 when I was in second grade and we got rid of our DOS box. I consider myself a proficient user to highly proficient user, having built 4 of my own machines. I have installed Office 2010 Professional and the program works.
Setup: Lenovo ideapad y500 purchased January 2013 with Windows 8
Problem: Windows will not allow me to set Word 2010 as my default program for opening .docx or other valid formats. I can open the documents from within the program, just not by default.
Steps Taken:
1) Right-click file > choose default program > Word 2010 not available > browse for and specify location > set program to default. Result = System Message "This app can't run on your pc."
2) Consulted Microsoft support site to search for solution. Same result.
Desired Resolution: how to set that default application. All of you who read this are also annoyed with Microsoft's awful customer service.
How do I get an email program? I do not like Internet mail interface. I have roadrunner. The tech at the store said I could connect by Outlook but when I get to Outlook it wants my email and pw. There is no option to register. Sometimes when I try options in the Mail place I get a blank screen that won't close..there is no way to close it. I had to restart.
Am using outlook.com, web based, as a backup email program. Since setting it up when I try to access it, I keep getting a screen that says 'we are having a problem access this program, try again'. When I click again, I am in the email program and ready to use it.
So far have not found why I must go through this extra step to get to Outlook.com.
I can't seem to get the metro email app to remember the account that I want to send email from on default. I have a Gmail account and two Exchange accounts. Seems like any time another app or web site wants to send an email there is no logic as to what account it sends from.
I just sent my computer in to be worked on a month ago. I had this working before then
It was factory reset so this is a computer/browser issue, nothing with the restore
I had Yahoo Email set as default. For each of my previous computers, I did too.
I cannot find the link telling me how to do it: I remember seeing it could be done with a particular version of Yahoo toolbar And I saw one that would install the mail plugin with Yahoo Messenger
Neither has been there when I installed several versions.
If I delete my email address from the pre-installed email app, would that have any effect on the main user account, which I log into using that email address, and if I add someone else's email to the app, would our email accounts be synced?
Started using my freshly installed Windows 8.1 Pro this week...When i go to a file (any filetype...i tried like 10..) and click "choose default program..." in the context menu, the following error message will always come up:
Sure i can go to Config panel > Select default programs etc.But this is odd... since i am 100% confident it used to work fine before.I already did a 'sfc /scannow' checkup with an original 8.1 Pro x64 image but it says integrity is completely fine.
Could it be a random piece of software i uninstalled which was perhaps freeware and did not state it was Windows 8 compatible, leaving a cluttered registry key which is affecting this command from my context menu?
How do I go about associating an email program to the snipping tool in Windows 8. When I try to send the snip via email I get the message that an email program is not associated with it. I could use a detailed description. Not as good as I used to be doing this since the stroke.I had no problems sending a snip using windows 7. I did not have to associate an email program to it.
I need to change the default email client in Windows 8 to Gmail in Chrome.
I thought that this would be an easy fix, but I have searched the Web, searched the forums, and cannot find anywhere that it tells me how to do this.
Besides the fact that I want all of my MAILTO links to use my Web based Gmail account, I need it to do so to make it work with OneNote.
In OneNote, when I try to send someone a page, it gives me an error message about Microsoft Outlook not being started or set up, and says to change it in Default Programs. I tried doing this, but my MAILTO links are all set to Google Chrome, which seems like it would work.
Old vista pc died, kept a running backup disc every sunday up until august when I bought an Toshibe ex. hard drive.I had quite a few problems transferring the Toshiba into the windows 8 pc. Made multiple copies on the hard drive darn near 250 gigs. So erased all those files and transferred the backups I had on discs. They're in my pc but I don't know how to access them/. I installed a couple apps but I still don't see anything. I want to send attachments via email and the pc wants me to create an association in the default section. There is a list a mile long which I don't understand. Do i install some kind of app or is something else not setup right....
I'm considering an 8.1 system, but I see that I have to establish a Windows Live Account for the OS to function properly. Here's my dilemma - If I use the native Windows 8.1 Mail Client, will my email be local (on my HDD/SSD) (which is what I want) or in the cloud - just want to be sure before I make any decision.
Do I have the option as to where I would like my email store? i.e. HDD/SSD and/or Cloud?
I cannot remove my Windows Live email account so whenever I want to send email, I had to click on the "Gmail" tab first then compose email and I don't want this because it's somehow not efficient.
I use the default Windows 8.1 Mail client but I never used my Windows Live account.
Is there any ways to remove Windows Live email or at least make Gmail as the default email address on Windows Mail?
in IE10 In a number of web pages (e.g., accuweather), a number of images are missing. Weather for a particular day used to have a background picture - now, just text. Buttons are missing. For example, when I try to buy something or Continue to next page, the buy/continue button is missing. I've found I can tab within the page until a blank space on the screen is highlighted and then I can hit enter. But VISUALLY, it's not there. Some web pages are almost entirely black and white I'll add, these same buttons/images are missing in Firefox. I've tried clearing cache/cookies in IE and FF.
In every open app, in the upper right, are three icons - minimize/restore/close. These appear in every app but the location (I'll call it that) is inconsistent. That is, in Vista and all previous iterations, I could hold my mouse over the minimize icon and click - never moving my mouse - thus, minimizing all apps. If I place my mouse over 'minimize' and click, I may minimize the next 1-2 apps. For the next app, the mouse may be to the left of minimize or it may be over the 'restore' button even though I've not moved the mouse. I have to hit Minimize, wait to see where the mouse is in the next open app, and move the mouse to hit Minimize again.
This next one may be more difficult because I don't know the lingo. At the top of every oprn app is a title (e.g., Microsoft Excel). I call this the title bar. In all previous iterations of windows, the title bar was always the same size/color. Not in Windows 8. Most title bars are the custom color I've chosen but some are black and some are the same color as the menu bar (off-white?). In some apps the title bar SEEMS to be thicker than others although this could be an illusion due to color. While this isn't as bothersome as the varying location of Minimize, it is an indication my problems are various. since the original startup of this PC they didn't appear after an update on installation of another app.
I am running a Win 7 OS on an SSD and I have some programs installed on a different hard drive. And I want to move this program files folder on the same hard drive but different partition. Is it possible to do this without breaking the program links?
I installed Win 8.1 several months ago, and it's running fine. I was especially impressed with the satellite images, which worked something like Google Earth.
In the MUSIC folder I have 1 folder for each artist. In each Artist folder I have 1 folder for each Album. And in each Album folder I have all the songs, with the cover art embedded in them, in every single .mp3 I have.
In folder options I've set folders to show thumbnails, not icon. So, each Album folder's icon is the album art of the .mp3 files it has inside. BUT in the MUSIC folder, all the Artist folders don't show the album arts they have inside. Their icon is not a folder's icon neither, it's like thumbnails of folders:
And I'd like them to show the thumbnails of the albums they have inside. Well, the maximum amount of images that a folder icon can show is 2, so if I have more than 1 album in an Artist folder, then the icon should be 2 random thumbnails (of 2 albums).
An example here:
I put a song (with embedded cover art) in the desktop. The archive's icon is the cover art.
Now I create a NEW FOLDER (the icon is a default folder icon) called "Album". I put there the .mp3 file. Now, the "Album" folder's icon is the cover art of the .mp3 file.
Then I create ANOTHER new folder called "Artist" (default folder icon), and I put there the "Album" folder. And here, the "Artist" folder's icon is NOT the cover art, but the icon of the image above, and I want it to show the cover art.
Notice that all album's folders have only .mp3 files, not hidden images like "folder.jpg" or anything else, just .mp3 files.
What drives me crazy is that like a week ago, Artist folders were showing cover arts of the albums they had inside (they picked up 2 random images, cause folders can show up to 2 thumbnails).
I'm trying to print images/pictures using windows photo viewer and I get this error "Your pictures can't be printed because this error occurred".... It doesn't tell me which error.. simply just says that in the dialog box. THe dialog box comes out like 4 times with the same message and I have to click OK.
I've already tried googling it and the only fix I can find is replacing photowiz and I already did but it has fixed. I've also installed Photo Gallery and it stil lgives me the same error when I try to print and picture. I've also reinstalled all my printer drivers...
